Me and two friends are going away on Saturday to Edinburgh to a show,it's a 3 hour drive from us,the show starts at 8pm.
My friend is taking her car and we are each driving a hour each.
She says il pick you up at 9am,I say can you make it 9.30 am as my sons dad can't pick him up till then.
She says "no I want to beat the traffic"
I said "30 mins is hardly going to make a lot of difference"
She says "well il get there slightly after 9"
There's nothing I can do,I won't be ready till 9.30am
I ask what's the plan when we get there and she says they are going to have a couple of hours napping in hotel.
So rushing and we aren't even exploring.
Aibu here?
I've said 3 times I can't be ready till 9.30 am
I'm not doing it to be awkward.

Have you booked anywhere for food? If you like Thai food check out this restaurant Krua Khun Mae - its a bit of a hidden treasure but has the best tasting Thai food I have ever tried. Everyone I have ever taken raves about it.

caitbake · 28/03/2019 14:52

@Bringbackthestripes she's just really bossy
Eat the places she wants to eat.
We went to Manchester last year and she wouldn't let me have a quick pop in the shops.

@caitbake
If I was you I'd get the train, do your own thing and meet at the show and don't go away with her again!
Edinburgh is great for a wander especially the Old Town

caitbake · 28/03/2019 14:55

@Bookworm4 oh your right
She should be going up past Morpeth /Alnwick way
We are gonna end up the other side of bloody Scotland !

I have to that I do agree with Bluntness ! Blush

Tighnabruaich · 28/03/2019 14:56

Only driving for an hour each? You could easily do the whole run from Newcastle to Edinburgh with one driver doing the whole thing. What are you going to do for 3 hours until you can check in? And why on earth does a (presumably) healthy young woman need a nap for? She's only going to Edinburgh by car, not trekking to Outer Mongolia! She'd not be my friend for long, bossing everyone about like that - and so unreasonable.

Fairenuff · 28/03/2019 14:57

Bluntness100 are you always so argumentative/negative in your replies to threads?

Haha, you noticed then. Yes we get a lot of that from Bluntness but stick around and you get a bit fond of their style of posting Grin

TheOrigFV45 · 28/03/2019 14:57

The whole thing sounds awful.

I think you should get the train and make some new friends when you're on it.

Harumphharagh · 28/03/2019 14:57

With friends like this, the only way is to let them do their thing and you opt out. Just say, 'oh gosh I totally hear you re the time, there's nothing i can do about pick up though i'm afraid, shall i get the train and meet you there? I won't need a nap, i'll be too excited, so I'll just have a mosey about the shops and meet you at xx.'

And then get the lovely train! With a book or a mag or netflix! Then do whatever some sensible pp said about a chocolate lounge and a drink.

GreatDuckCookery · 28/03/2019 15:01

Tbf to Bluntness I have loved her posts on the Brexit threads! She explains everything very well to people like me who are often confused by the whole carry on.

BumbleBeee69 · 28/03/2019 15:03

Get the train, the weathers to be gorgeous here this weekend, ramble and roam freely and save money to boot without adding to the costs of the car journey, tell your 'mate' to go on ahead without you, because your CHILD comes first. Flowers

RedPanda2 · 28/03/2019 15:04

Why would you consider driving there if it's a shorter trip on the train? Just get the train

SureTry · 28/03/2019 15:04

IMO your friend being deliberately difficult is probably because she doesn't really want to have you in her car.

LettuceP · 28/03/2019 15:05

Napping 😂😂 your friend is bonkers

Acis · 28/03/2019 15:06

Is it Newcastle under Lyme or on Tyne?

Someone who would rather spend an hour in a service station than half an hour having a coffee at a friend's house needs their head examined.

TheViceOfReason · 28/03/2019 15:06

Get the train.

Your friend is ridiculous (and FWIW, it doesn't sound like you like her much).

Fuck trying to park in Edinburgh centre also. Train from Newcastle, straight in Edinburgh Haymaket, drop bags at the hotel, then drinks at Harvey Nicols, wander round the shop, head to Juniper for another, then lunch at Dishoom.

In the afternoon walk up the royal mile to the castle, maybe a coffee and cake somewhere, another cocktail or two round the Grassmarket.

Back to the hotel, chill for half an hour, shower, get ready, meet for dinner at 6 (loads of places to go), then gig at 8.

New morning grab a good breakfast, go to the Museum of Scotland, then train home!

Alsohuman · 28/03/2019 15:07

Harvey Nicks has a chocolate bar? How on earth did I manage to miss that?

Yep, @Bluntness is aptly named, I quite like it.

Selmababies · 28/03/2019 15:07

Bluntness100 are you always so argumentative/negative in your replies to threads?

To be fair, Bluntness does have a point.

I'll just get my coat... Grin

Grumpelstilskin · 28/03/2019 15:08

Just get the train. You won't have to pay fuel, have a more relaxed journey, don't have to get up so early and can leave later.

Chocolateisfab · 28/03/2019 15:10

Hell's bells if the show ain't up to scratch....

Snappedandfarted2019 · 28/03/2019 15:10

Tbh the clue is in her name she is blunt and straight to the point. You do sound like you don’t like you’re friend very much and I would question why you would continue the friendship if she’s such hardwork

oh4forkssake · 28/03/2019 15:10

Oh God get the train! What a load of hassle!

Use your vouchers and spend the money you'll save on petrol on a cab to the station to pamper yourself.

She sounds like a total pain. At least on the train you can stand up and walk about a bit. And get a coffee. Actually, can you do that "weekend upgrade to first class for a tenner" thing still? Do that. Put some nice music on and nap. Bliss.

caitbake · 28/03/2019 15:12

I do like my friend I'm just annoyed with her today because she can't compromise
