So I named our dd the same name as another school mums dd, she has a mahoosive problem with it and now completely ignores me!
Here’s the thing I didnt even know her dd had this name (that’s how much we spoke beforehand) also it’s her dd’s shortened name not her actual birth certificate name.
I addressed her in the playground (the irony) and asked what her problem was as she had been going round saying I copied her etc etc she told me she was just shocked I had done it especially as she had told me she wanted her child to be the only one in the school with that name and that it’s an unusual name and originated from her country not the UK so why would I choose it?
Have I completely lost the plot in not understanding her pathetic and immature reaction?

How pathetic of her! What is the name?!

Divgirl2 · 26/03/2019 13:06

She sounds batshit. Unless her DD's name is always accompanied by a tiny little C in a circle, YANBU.

StarlightIntheNight · 26/03/2019 13:07

She sounds nuts. What right does she think she owns the name?! Also, expecting everyone to oblige her so her child can be the only one in the school with the name? Just ignore her.

Smoggle · 26/03/2019 13:07

Really depends what the name is.

Poloshot · 26/03/2019 13:08

Nutcase, ignore her.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/03/2019 13:09

That’s just plain odd.

Dreamingofkfc · 26/03/2019 13:09

What's the name? She has no claim to any name but if it was something really unique I wouldn't have named my child the same....although you didn't know so couldn't have avoided it!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 26/03/2019 13:10

Really depends what the name is no it really doesnt
This woman cant believe her child will never encounter another person with the same name- will she cross check the secondary schools/ universities beforehand

capaciousbladder · 26/03/2019 13:11

Oh dear. She'll have to change schools then!!

Topofthehills · 26/03/2019 13:12

Wait, is her dd a baby too, or school-age?

If you've given a new baby the same name as a child at primary school, it's not like they'll be at school at the same time anyway.

(In any case, she is being very very unreasonable - just can't be avoided! Personally I'd rather think, "Hey, that person has great taste in names too!")

DianaT1969 · 26/03/2019 13:13

What's the timeline here? Her child is at school, so 5 years+ yes? Have you just had a new baby and given the same name? In which case her child will be 10 and leaving primary school when yours starts?

thecatsthecats · 26/03/2019 13:15

Dreamingofkfc

So say you LOVED a name, and it had real meaning to you. You wouldn't use it because of someone who you will have zero to do with in about 7 years time?

Are you my parents? Because they gave me the name my sister was going to have, except another girl in their village was called the same six months before.

We didn't go to school with that girl, she could be alive or dead, we'd have no clue. But because of her mere existence, I have my name, rather than my sister.

Put it that way, doesn't it seem rather silly?

CoffeeRunner · 26/03/2019 13:15

Are we talking about 2 babies who will be in the same year group? Or one baby & one older child?

How rare/unusual is the name?

BettyBoo246 · 26/03/2019 13:17

Her child is 2 years and mine is 2 months Grin

ladybee28 · 26/03/2019 13:18

On the up side, at least this name has been a great filter for your friendship circle – the quicker you can identify the lunatics at the school gate, the better!

Mammyloveswine · 26/03/2019 13:18

Just coming on to ask what the name is...

BettyBoo246 · 26/03/2019 13:18

The name is Mila

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 26/03/2019 13:19

So is it the younger sibling of your older child's classmate not her actual classmate?

It isn't unreasonable to pick a name you like. If you Hadid have that convo with her I guess I would have told her that we were doing it.

Have you "culturally appropriated" the name as she claims? I suspect that'll influence the support you get on here

BettyBoo246 · 26/03/2019 13:20

Yes our older dds are in the same class

OP posts:
flippedoff · 26/03/2019 13:21

Mila was in top 25 of baby girls names in 2018. She's in for a shock.

Kedgeree · 26/03/2019 13:21

So her child is called, say, Rebecca and yours is Becky. Her child is two years older, they will potentially be in the same school at the same time? She's going to have no friends if she keeps this up...

Drum2018 · 26/03/2019 13:22

She's being completely unreasonable. Nobody owns a name. Tell her to send her kid to a different school if it bothers her that much Hmm

iano · 26/03/2019 13:22

Is this a joke? I know 3 Mila's Confused
It's really not unusual.

TokyoSushi · 26/03/2019 13:22

She is being utterly, utterly ridiculous.

ParisWilton · 26/03/2019 13:23

Mila was the 74th most popular girls name in England and Wales in 2017 (774 were born) so it's not really that uncommon
