So I named our dd the same name as another school mums dd, she has a mahoosive problem with it and now completely ignores me!
Here’s the thing I didnt even know her dd had this name (that’s how much we spoke beforehand) also it’s her dd’s shortened name not her actual birth certificate name.
I addressed her in the playground (the irony) and asked what her problem was as she had been going round saying I copied her etc etc she told me she was just shocked I had done it especially as she had told me she wanted her child to be the only one in the school with that name and that it’s an unusual name and originated from her country not the UK so why would I choose it?
Have I completely lost the plot in not understanding her pathetic and immature reaction?

Yep, smile and nod, whilst stepping back slowly 😂

Aarghineedaname · 26/03/2019 20:45

id understand if both kids were in the same year, but they’re not.

Some people are oddly possessive over their names. Or in your case- their children’s name. Just ignore her. Also I would say Mila is a universal name.

IHaveNoVirtuesToSignal · 26/03/2019 21:16

Mila Kunis her name is Milena she's Ukrainian.

Ihatehashtags · 27/03/2019 06:26

Mila is common as l where I’m from! My daughter has 3 milas in her class. She’s 5.

wizzler · 27/03/2019 06:32

Yanbu. Every time she moans about you to someone they will think she is completely unhinged.

GPatz · 27/03/2019 06:42

We gave our DS an unusual Scottish name. When we moved to a village in the Surrey, I registered my family at the local doctors. We found out during registration that not only did another child in this village have exactly the same name as our DS, he also shared our surname! It was so funny! We haven't bumped into the other family as yet - I just hope they are amused as we are!

Mouthfulofquiz · 27/03/2019 06:45

There are 3 Milas in my son’s class! She’s going to have a shock!

uknownothingjonsnow · 27/03/2019 06:57

She's pathetic! My boy baby name from being quite young was always the same and not really heard of them. DS is thirteen now and when he was born, the name had got quite popular. I still used it and there are a few in his school but I just think those parents had great taste like me! Would no way get offended.
I'd make a point of standing next to her with your baby in its pram introducing her to everyone !

Thewheelsarefallingoff · 27/03/2019 07:07

My dsis named her DC what sounds like a combination of my DCs names. Like, if my DC were called Clara & Leo, DN is named Cleo. I just thought 'that's a bit strange', but haven't said anything to anyone. Try to ignore, op. She is the one coming off as a bit odd.

Pharlapwasthebest · 27/03/2019 07:07

Why are you giving this so much headspace? So she's ignoring you and talking crap to everyone? Everyone will think she's batshit, not you.
If someone ignores me I kill them with kindness, smile, say a cheery good morning and move on.

Orangeday · 27/03/2019 07:08

Agree, she’s nutty. My DS has a name that was given only twice in this country the year he was born - the numbers given are for 3 and above babies given the name. Both boys ended up in the same school, in the same class. When we found out, his mother and I laughed and said “so much for our originality”. Now our kids are ten the name has become fairly popular. But we haven’t lost any sleep over it. Because we aren’t crazy.

TapasForTwo · 27/03/2019 07:14

It says far more about her than it does about you. I expect the other parents will think she's a bit odd as well, especially as she is being so nasty about it. When DD went to primary school there were two other girls with the same name as her in her class. Was I bovvered? No.

Is she called Mila©
Mila™
Mila®

I've never heard the name Mila before. Blush

Its nice though, and the other mum is being ridiculous.

Dippypippy1980 · 27/03/2019 07:20

Mila has become a very trendy name. It is lovely. Mila kunis has made it very popular.

It ranks above Sophia in popularity, so this batt lady will come across quite a few!!

Ignore her, she is unhinged.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 27/03/2019 07:23

I have three friends in different circles that chose Mila as a name for their dc all due around the same time, two ended up having boys and the third decided it was too similar to her elder child's name in the end. This woman is really going to have a massive shock on her hands.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 27/03/2019 07:29

Yes Mila very popular here too-what is her lenghtened version?

cakecakecheese · 27/03/2019 07:32

How ridiculous.

People need to calm down about giving their kids 'unique' names, unless you go really off piste and call your kids Pumpernickel or Flip Flop this 'unusual' trend is just going to make unusual names less er unusual. There was a thread on here where a poster's mate had got pissed off because the OP had rightly said 'Aurora' wasn't unique, it's in the top 100 now so no, not unique.

If people really want different names they should go back to the 70's and 80's, Sharon, Deborah, Gavin, Barry Grin

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 27/03/2019 07:41

She's a very silly woman if she expected her child to get through 7 years of school with a "unique" name like that!

I named my DS2 an unusual name (because I liked it, no other reason) and although I wasn't expecting it, I had no issue with another child at playgroup having the same name! No sane person really does have an issue with this sort of thing.

barkinatthemoon · 27/03/2019 08:12

There's 3 Milas in our preschool and one (I know of) in the nursery, a have a friend with one and we've met at least a handful of others in the past couple of years. This mum is in for a shock as I'd actually consider it a common/popular/overused name where we live!
