AIBU?

Aibu to be furious with barber

So I took ds for a much needed tidy up haircut. It was a bit longer than in the 3rd pic. He chose a style he likes and that will be ok with school.

The blurred out pic is ds, the other what he wanted.

He previously had lots of beautiful blonde curls. They have given him a number 4 and cut his ear.

I know I am probably being a bit dramatic but I could honestly cry. His hair grows really really really slowly too. This is only his fifth or sixth haircut ever because it's curly it stays short for ages.

I refused to pay because it looks nothing like what he asked for. He's upset about loosing his curls and I'm not sure school will be overly happy with it either.

It’s fine, get him some gel to get the front bit to stick up a bit, he’ll love trying to style it a bit himself

I can't believe you didn't pay the barber, that's really unfair. Your sons hair is too thin for the style if the picture.

I'd be pissed off too as they haven't left any length on the top at all. Ds would have been in tears (and has several times when the barber hasn't stuck to what we have asked for). Once they cut his fringe above his eyebrows when we asked for it to be left alone.

The last time I took him to my hairdresser and it was the first time he was happy with it. His hair is around shoulder length with a long fringe

Its too short. Barber should have cut a bit, then checked length with you - if you say more off then a bit more comes off. Until it’s the right length. That’s what my husband does with children. You shouldn’t have paid!

My husband is a barber by the way 😂

Looking at what he wanted I woukd say that is a razor on back and scissors on top which is what I would say he has ? Basically a short back and sides which is what my boys have and I think of as a classic little boy haircut.

The one you wanted has kept the hair on top longer and it has gel in it. If you had kept that length with curly hair and the shirt at the side I think it would have looked a bit silly as there would only be curls on top. Did the barber try and tell you that before cutting it?

Why on earth would the school comment on his haircut anyway ?!?

You owe the barber an apology. His hair is too thin to look like that pic, and while shorter than, the barber did a good job.

I think the cut looks nice, although I don't know if I believe it was a 4; it looks shorter than that.

My son got his ear nicked by the barber once. It was because he wasn't sitting still, and that's what happens when you don't sit still. 15 years on he still occasionally mentions the time "the barber cut his ear off." Hmm

Also husband just said it’s not too fine for that style. It wouldn’t be exactly the same but similar. The problem is entirely that it’s been cut too short. He agreed, shouldn’t have paid!!

Did the barber cut his hair a bit shorter than you wanted or did he extract a kidney?? FFS get a grip....

Go back, apologise and pay ffs!

You showed the barber a picture of a kid with straight hair and he's upset they cut his curls off 🤔

Pretty much this. Surely you should be modelling resillience and a sense of perspective. It will take a few weeks to grow back to the length you want,

I know! That’s what I thought as well. Nevermind. At least the flowers got there.

Your sons hair is fine & light, the other boys hair is thick & a lot darker. There’s a little bit of curl left over, just keep having the back and sides trimmed and let the top grow.
I can’t see the schools will be bothered all my DS 14 friends have fades which are v short at back & sides -a 1.5 with a longer gelled top, they look very smart.

But not everyone has got a good eye to realise what works or not, that's why the barber should advise if it won't work.

It's waaaaay too short on top anyway, what are you supposed to style?!

Whilst I wouldn't make a big deal in front of my kid, it's absolutely fine to not be happy about it and not really about resilience. You only hear this about kids in general and boys in particular anyway, you wouldn't get the same replies if a little girl had her hair cut way too short

Why would school not be happy with a very normal haircut? It’s fine, but I appreciate it wasn’t what you asked for.

His hair looks OK to me - similar to what DS has which is a grade 2 back and sides, scissor cut on top and blended. It's never been considered too short at either primary or secondary.

my older son has exactly the same hair cut your son wanted. Hair on sides is about 5mm, on top 1.5 cm. he has very, very thick dark hair and loads of it.
the same hairstyle on my youngest son (very fine blond hair) would look like your son.not the barbers fault as long as he warned you it would look different

Was it a proper barber or was it the Turkish barbers? I swear the latter only do one style (called a turkcut up here, but that might not be PC).

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/03/2019 20:59

We have a local Turkish Barber Divgirl2, all heir haircuts are very very short (and they do an amazing job of excess hair removal if you can stand the pain).

Oh for goodness sake!!! Talk about first world problems. His hair looks far better shorter anyway.

You DSs hair is the same as my son's. You're not going to achieve what's in the second pic because his hair is too wavy. The only time my DSs hair looks straight is when it's cut short.

I think next time you should find a picture of a hair model with a similar hair colour, texture and thickness as your DS.
Expectations are going to be off if you and your DS are picking a haircut you like which will never look like the picture, especially as your DS is quite young.
The barber should have mentioned it but it does seem he did the best he could with the different style of hair your DS has.
When people come on here or to a hairdressers and choose a style they like people will always be honest and say your hair it too thick/not thick enough/too short/too curly etc.
You have to find a hairstyle more suitable for your sons hair.
Seems weird with Google at your fingertips that when you want to keep your sons curls (probably a million child hair models with curly hair, light, thinner hair) you choose a picture with dark, thick, straight hair.
Disappointment was inevitable.
