ALargeGinPlease My confirmation email took one second to come through.

PinkiOcelot · 21/03/2019 12:50

The vote was to leave. The vote should stay that way!!

Kedgeree · 21/03/2019 12:52

1500 or so signatures from my constituency.

maddening · 21/03/2019 12:52

Pinki - so if 20million (a convincing majority) ask to remain then the will of 15 million 3years ago overrides that?

UnspiritualHome · 21/03/2019 12:52

I think one of the main points of signing this is as a direct response to Theresa May's appalling speech last night. She needs to have it driven home to her that her ridiculous attempt to set the electorate against Parliament has failed, and she needs to stop underestimating the population and the depths of unease caused by her incompetence and inability to understand people's concerns. It's all very easy and populist to take the line that "the people want to leave and that's it", but at some point she needs to acknowledge that this was a vote fatally tainted by fraud and her predecessor's failure to spell out properly what people were voting for. That is the only way to get past this utter mess.

UnspiritualHome · 21/03/2019 12:53

The vote was to leave. The vote should stay that way!!

The fraudulent vote was to leave, @PinkiOcelot. So it clearly shouldn't stay that way.

LimeKiwi · 21/03/2019 13:06

I agree @PinkiOcelot, and I voted Remain

happyhillock · 21/03/2019 13:11

I live in Scotland and all we get from Nicola Sturgeon is a 2nd independence vote she's not respecting the last vote, now a petition for a second EU vote, you can't keep having votes until you get the vote you want, that's not democracy, it's politician's who are determined to remain causing this chaos, if i was Theresa May i would have walked away month's ago, which numpty do the people out there want to try and get us a good deal from the EU who are also making things difficult for us to leave, i'm not signing any petition wont do any good

MattFreisWeatherReport · 21/03/2019 13:18

The vote was to leave. The vote should stay that way!!

And if Brexit is still what people want, then it will.

Are you saying that it would be more democratic to continue with leaving even if only a small minority still want to, @PinkiOcelot?

keepforgettingmyusername · 21/03/2019 13:25

'The vote was to leave. The vote should stay that way!!'

No it shouldn't!!

See I can debate just as eloquently as any leaver Wink

RickOShay · 21/03/2019 13:25

People weren’t aware what they were voting for. It’s that simple.

TwoleftUggs · 21/03/2019 13:29

30 mins and no email confirmation.. is anyone else’s taking this long? Confused

mydogisthebest · 21/03/2019 13:34

Hostesstrolley, I am not talking about the ones that were too young to vote, I am talking about the ones that could not be bothered to vote and then moaned and wailed that "old people had ruined their future". It's common knowledge that many youngster who were entitled to vote did not do so.

Personally I think youngsters should be more concerned about climate change, water shortages and overpopulation

ALargeGinPlease · 21/03/2019 13:34

Had my confirmation email now.

Fuppy · 21/03/2019 13:42

So why do we bother to vote again for a prime minister? I mean we've already done that before, and clearly people don't have the right to change their mind...🙄

Leavers complain about the notion of another vote because they're worried that they might not get their way be in the minority this time.

Let's not forget that the 'majority' equated to 1% more previously. It's hardly an overwhelming majority so the opinion was almost 50/50 anyway. If Brexit is still what the majority want then another vote would reinforce that, surely voting is about letting the country show what they currently want. Even if we don't have another vote, leave etc...will people complain if there's a new vote to rejoin the EU in the near future?

Either way money is being haemorrhaged out of the public purse. I can't consider checking if someone still wants what they previously asked for/agreed to as a bad thing, surely it's a consent issue?

Lovestonap · 21/03/2019 14:19

I have signed and shared it. I have no hopes for it, but I needed somehow to express my view - even if no one cares about it.
I honestly don't know what would be the best thing to happen next.
I don't even want a general election as the opposition have been as ineffective as government.
I just want the attention of our government back on the day to day running of our country - we're struggling. Another 3 months of this is ridiculous.

I do wonder how TM thinks that asking the same question of parliament 3 times (stopped by Bercow) in 3 months is 'democracy' in action, but won't ask the country the same question twice?

Lots of people 'could not be bothered' to vote, so I don't know why you're so focused on younger voters.
"The results found that 64% of those young people who were registered did vote, rising to 65% among 25-to-39-year-olds and 66% among those aged between 40 and 54. It increased to 74% among the 55-to-64 age group and 90% for those aged 65 and over."
So, it's true that older people (55+) were more likely to vote, but your moaning and wailing against 'youngsters' is really misdirected.

PinkiOcelot · 21/03/2019 14:21

@maddening - basically yes!

Question for remainers- if the shoe was on the other foot, and we’d voted to remain in 2016 would you be saying there should be another vote now as people may not feel the same?!

Lovestonap · 21/03/2019 14:27

well, it wouldn't bother me, just like I didn't campaign against the first vote - I just took part in it.

Unfinishedkitchen · 21/03/2019 14:28

Her speech last night made me scramble to sign the petition, which looks on course to pass the million mark by 3pm.

She must’ve been late to deliver it because her aids were begging her not to say what she did. They would’ve known how it would come across but she doesn’t listen to anyone.

mrsm43s · 21/03/2019 14:30

Well, the two aren't really comparable, because "remain" was a known state, whereas "leave" was not.

If we voted to remain, and something changed that meant that "remain" in 2019 was significantly different than the "remain" that we voted for in 2016, then yes, I think it would be reasonable to have another referendum.

That is the situation here. The "leave" that was voted for (including £££ for the NHS, fantastic trade deals, EU giving us whatever we want etc etc) is not the leave that can be delivered. It is significantly different. So it is reasonable to vote again to see if the public still want to leave given the significant different leave deal that is now on the table.

beebear22 · 21/03/2019 14:36

Signed and shared everywhere. currently at 989,141

I don't know if it will make a difference, but it's better than sitting on my butt doing nothing

NoCauseRebel · 21/03/2019 14:42

The reality though is people are signing this petition because they seem to think that remain will win next time.

What if it doesn’t? I actually know remain voters who say they would now vote to leave. The poles suggest that leave would still win. If that happened the situation would remain unchanged. There still wouldn’t be a deal and we’d still crash out.

I voted remain. But I don’t believe that this petition is going to achieve anything or has any actual point to it.

The EU will not likely grant an extension until the end of June they will only grant one until May when the European election happens.

TM is a disgrace, but there isn’t exactly any credible alternative at the moment. No-one was exactly clammering to be PM at the time were they?

WeCameToDance · 21/03/2019 14:44

PinkiOcelot Yes. I think in a decision as big as this it is only right to double check. Particularly when false information was presented as facts and swayed the population.
I also think if there was to be another vote oh look there is that flying unicorn we are more likely to get a clearer picture of the wants of the people. Statistically there were a lot of young people who didn't use their vote. This was shown in the general election that followed when record numbers of young people voted. Also a lot of the older generation who voted (whichever way that might be) have now passed away so are not alive to cast an opinion. So yes there should be another vote BUT if that vote still shows a majority to leave then that should be the final say.

WeCameToDance · 21/03/2019 14:47

So basically even if remain had won there should still be another vote. A lot has changed in three years and the public should be entitled to ensure the result is what they still want. I think that would still be the sam if it had swung the other way three years ago.
