If the will of the people is still to leave, that would be the result of any fresh referendum. If you believe the majority of the UK wants Brexit then surely you have nothing to fear from a public vote?

InglouriousBasterd · 21/03/2019 10:24

The site has crashed 😄

Hecketyheck · 21/03/2019 10:31

I don't know how I feel about this - although I have signed. I was vehemently remain and just spent the last weekend in Brussels feeling inordinately sad, but if we just stay in the EU now, what a bloody awful waste of three years' time and money.

There was no plan, there was never a plan.

The best definition of Brexit that I have seen says "the undefined being negotiated by the unprepared in order to get the unspecified for uninformed". That's about the cut of it.

RuggyPeg · 21/03/2019 10:36

The British public at large are ill equipped to make sound judgements about the political future of our country. Just listen to the likes of The Jeremy Vine show & Alan Beswicks talk show for indisputable evidence of such. I want a government that evaluates all the options, comes up with the best solution and then delivers it, competently and quickly and takes us through why they made the decision. STOP asking people who have no idea how to even string a sentence together.

SovietKitsch · 21/03/2019 10:37

Don’t fall for the sunk cost fallacy heckety - yes it’s been a monumental waste of time and money but that doesn’t make leaving anymore of a good idea!

Is that a comment on Brexit or EU membership as a whle?

it is just as true either way!

Great, great quote Hecketyheck. Like your username btw😁

Hecketyheck · 21/03/2019 10:47

soviet no you are quite right of course. Just SO infuriating, the whole thing. I'm finding it very hard to forgive David Cameron for starting this shitstorm and then buggering off into the sunset.

Hecketyheck · 21/03/2019 10:48

Blinking - thankyou :)

I thought I’d signed it, but got an error message just after submitting my details and didn’t get a confirmation email. I now know that you haven’t signed it until you get a confirmation email and successfully click on the link.

I'm getting so fed up of people posting about how 'we've already had a referendum' and how 'people just want to keep voting until they get the answer they want'

HOW can people possibly still have this opinion when it has been explained over and over again that the reason people want a 2nd referendum is to make an informed vote on something that affects us and many generations after us?! It is utterly ludicrous to claim that democracy is letting people have their say once when they have no idea what the effects will be and then making them stick to it when it turns out to be a complete shitshow.

Also people saying 'I just want it to be over with now' - what is your magical solution for this being fixed at this moment in time? I would rather it took much longer and we came out the other side with a result that didn't completely fuck the entire country over.

I voted remain but would happily stand by Britain leaving the EU if I didn't feel like we were worse off because of it.

AngeloMysterioso · 21/03/2019 10:55

Waiting for my confirmation email which I suspect may take some time... currently over 710,000!

Crunchymum · 21/03/2019 10:58

I reckon they need to hold a referendum as to whether or not there should be another referendum on leaving.

Sounds like I'm making a joke but if enough people vote in agreement for another vote on leaving the EU then it means its what the "people want" ?

Crunchymum · 21/03/2019 10:58

717,007 votes when I signed.

BunsOfAnarchy · 21/03/2019 11:14

It's like banging my head against a wall.
Yes we are a democracy. We voted leave. But that is NOT the be all and end all. When will people get this!
Leavers clearly were under the impression we were leaving a meh existence and new pastures would be akin to beautiful meadow with orchards brimming with fruits of endless possibilities as the leave campaigns PROMISED.
Right now it looks like leaving would be to a swamp with no boat and a few crocodiles thrown in.

Seriously? You wanna leave in THIS state?

BunsOfAnarchy · 21/03/2019 11:15

And. Yes. I've signed!

StarlingsEverywhere · 21/03/2019 11:15

Funkaccino · 21/03/2019 11:22

and if we dont like the way that vote goes we just vote again shall we?

Why not? Thibgs may well change again. At least the next time we'd know the risks involved and can make an educated decision.

FloatingthroughSpace · 21/03/2019 11:23

I have signed this.
I am under not the tiniest illusion that because if this petition article 50 will be revoked. I just wanted May and Corbyn and the whole lot of them - and those in Europe who now have such a dreadful view of us - to see that I didn't want this, and I don't agree.

hennybeans · 21/03/2019 11:26

Signed and shared on FB morning.

mydogisthebest · 21/03/2019 11:28

Ok so we have another referendum because, hopefully, people now have a clear idea of what exactly leave entails (ha ha) and all the youngsters that couldn't be bothered to get out of bed to vote desperately want to vote this time.

The vote is still leave but a smaller majority - what happens?
The vote is remain but with a smaller majority than leave had in the first referendum - what happens?
The vote is leave but with a larger majority - what happens?

No one seems to want or be able to answer the questions. Having a 2nd vote is not the magic solution to everything
