It is around a million more than when I signed last night. Smile

StoneofDestiny · 21/03/2019 18:32

Now at 1,250,276

Trekkingbeyond · 21/03/2019 18:51

I'm dying to look but not going to, brilliant!

HerondaleDucks · 21/03/2019 19:04

Here's what it says on twitter

Can’t get on at the mo.

LimaLemur · 21/03/2019 19:27

Thanks OP :) the website keeps on crashing - I like to think it’s because of all the traffic it’s getting from here Grin

mrsm43s · 21/03/2019 20:13

It seems to be up and running again

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/241584

thetwinkletoescollective · 21/03/2019 20:14

Done!

mrsm43s · 21/03/2019 20:17

The number seems to have stopped going up, it seems stuck at 1,311,334. I struggle to believe that literally no-one has signed in the last 10 mins? Maybe its just my link playing up?

chemenger · 21/03/2019 20:20

It's stuck. It's been going up by roughly 1000 per minute all day up to now.

mrsm43s · 21/03/2019 20:32

Hmm, well as long as all the votes are being registered!

Trekkingbeyond · 21/03/2019 20:34

Apparently it's gone over 1,400,000 now! Moving again

mrsm43s · 21/03/2019 21:04

Over 1.5 million now.

keepforgettingmyusername · 21/03/2019 21:14

They seem to add 100,000 votes every half an hour or so. Must have changed the system to cope with demand.

Bowchicawowow · 21/03/2019 21:17

1.5m is impressive but 33,500000 voted in the referendum and all the votes were registered. I just cannot see how a petition could overturn a majority vote in referendum?

Trekkingbeyond · 21/03/2019 21:19

Bow I presume it couldn't but if it carried on at this rate they would have to take notice and if the indicative votes take place they would surely take this and the march on Saturday into consideration.

StoneofDestiny · 21/03/2019 21:21

It's now on BBC website

keepforgettingmyusername · 21/03/2019 21:22

@Bowchicawowow it won't overturn anything, what it will do is prove the appetite for remain is strong. But only if people actually sign it and don't say 'I'll not bother, won't do any good anyway' etc.

Bowchicawowow · 21/03/2019 21:31

What use is an appetite when the result can’t be overturned?

LucyAutumn · 21/03/2019 21:33

It would be great to overturn it but I think this petition is more about telling Theresa May that no, she does not know what all of us want and therefore does not speak for all of us.

Alsohuman · 21/03/2019 21:34

1.6 million now. That’s a lot of people in just a few hours.

Goldmandra · 21/03/2019 21:34

Question for remainers- if the shoe was on the other foot, and we’d voted to remain in 2016 would you be saying there should be another vote now as people may not feel the same?!

The difference is that those voting remain knew what they were voting for. It's clear that few leavers had any idea of the chaos and insanity that would result.

The situation we're currently facing bears little or no resemblance to what voters thought they were choosing on referendum day. With that in mind, it is not reasonable to plough on regardless in the name of democracy. There is nothing democratic about this process.

Someone needs to put the brakes on this whole sorry mess, revoke article 50 and start prosecuting the fuckwits who harnessed xenophobia and misinformation to drive the leave vote in the first place.

puppy23 · 21/03/2019 21:35

Its a brilliant idea, and I've signed. In theory, its great. But all it means is a debate in parliament, which, in the state it’s in, is hardly likely to be fruitful, unfortunately

Bowchicawowow · 21/03/2019 21:36

Isn’t it already clear to everyone that this is a contentious, decisive issue which many people vehemently oppose. My view is that if she could TM would stop it. She campaigned to remain. She can’t do that because the vote was the final.

HotpotLawyer · 21/03/2019 21:40

Bow MP’s could vote to revoke if they were so minded.
Corbyn tonight said he would not rule out voting to revoke rather than no deal,

The referendum was advisory, the petition is advisory...
