AIBU?

To hate my cordless Dyson and want to throw it out?

I have never been that impressed with the bloody thing, and now I seem to spend more time trying to clean it out so that it picks something up ! And the more I see / hear James Dyson waffling on about Brexit the more resentful I am becoming of the useless piece of shit.

I only have hard floors no carpets so might just revert to brushing as I think it would be more effective .

Makita makes a good handheld. (I got jealous of my builder and bought one.)

Probably needs the filters cleaning.

Sorry. I love my cordless Dyson Blush

it went into sulk mode if you asked it to pick up anything it didn't fancy, like dirt or hair.

Oh, god, this! My Dyson Animal was utter shit for this. I have a cordless Shark now.p and it's awesome.

suziq10. Try getting the brush rollers out the casing in the head. There's a circle bit which you undo with a coin and the rollers slide out here. Then snip all the hairs you can see both in the rollers and in the head. Some are right at the end of the rollers nearly hidden in a plastic groove bit. Then reassemble, this normally works!

It cuts out because the brush head can't spin as it's knotted up with hair.

I had the same problem. I washed the filters regularly but decided to buy a new filter to see if that would help. It did and works perfectly now. If I forget to wash the filter it happens but as I now have two I just change them over.

The sharks look heavier than the Dyson. Do people find them ok? Says it's 4kg which is a lot for a stick vacuum.

@Haffiana

Maybe the Dyson haters have an old one?

I had a fairly new one, less than a year old and it just didn't do the job. I have always bought Dyson as I thought they were the best. Their first hoover was very good, but since they introduced "the ball" they don't work as they should.

Shark is the way to go now. After I used it the first time, I actually said I can't wait for the carpet to get dirty so I can have some more hoovering fun Blush, a sentence I'm sure has never been said by anyone ever. It made my carpet look new, it pulls up the pile and does a great job.

I’ve just brought a sebo and love it I’ve also got a henry which is good but my sebo is brilliant especially at picking up long hair.

I hate mine. Really powerful vacuum but mechanisms can't cope with what it sucks up and clogs ALL the time. Have to get very up close and personal with all the house dust every time it needs emptying - which is often. Chopping out all the hair from the rotar thing with scissors is a complete pain and needs doing about once a month. Can't afford to get a different o be as we spent so much on it. Angry

@NicoAndTheNiners It is heavier, but I think they need to be heavier.

I can hold my finger at the back of the stick and it will move forward on it's own on the lowest suction setting.

I have to do this every 5 mins!! Then it keeps cutting out if it gets a tiny bit of paper stuck in the top bit. A complete pile of shit

@Tweedypie
That's exactly the problem my stupid, horrible cordless Dyson has.

Can you give me any tips?

I have a love/hate relationship with my V6 Animal. It’s soooo needy though - cleaning the head all the time, otherwise it won’t go, emptying it because there’s a slight blockage somewhere and that means the motor cuts out. Constantly trying to second guess what’s gone wrong. Grrrr.

OTOH, I just did a super easy vacuum of the entire house in 20 minutes with no issues. It’s amazing on the rare occasions it decides to be good.

I had the DC59 too and it was useless. It didn’t pick up anything. Recently changed to a V10 and it’s brilliant and so much easier to empty.

I’ve got two dysons. Ones a rollerball and the other is the v8 cordless. I fucking hate them both. They make me ragey. I’m thinking of getting a Miele as I loathe getting my Dyson out.

My ancient V6 was rubbish but I'm in love with the V10

I work for a certain kitchenware company that's very popular on here, and we have sold Dysons, Sharks and GTechs in the 9 years we've been open. We're allowed to try these out in the shop. It surely says something that everyone who hoovers soon reverts to our trusty old Hetty, who's been there for the duration.

The first time I used the Shark lift away I was a bit scared of it as it was so powerful it started moving on it's own across the carpet. Like 'Back off bitch, I got this!' Bloody brilliant.

Why do cordless Dysons 'stop and start' even though they are fully charged and empty?
Drives me potty!

My Morphy Richards 1600 is almost 20 years old and still going strong. Getting hard to find the bags now though.

Report

@tensixtysix I think they aren't sealing properly somewhere so loose the vacuum. Even when you think you've cleaned it all it still stops and starts 😖
