AIBU?

To hate my cordless Dyson and want to throw it out?

I have never been that impressed with the bloody thing, and now I seem to spend more time trying to clean it out so that it picks something up ! And the more I see / hear James Dyson waffling on about Brexit the more resentful I am becoming of the useless piece of shit.

I only have hard floors no carpets so might just revert to brushing as I think it would be more effective .

Can anyone recommend a cordless vacuum, basically need it for picking up cat fur, toddlers food crumbs and bits of cat litter that have been kicked out

IC4nsee- yeah mum got the air ram. It's good but I prefer I using my more basic one!

I have a second hand g-tech that I inherited from my mum when she got an upgrade and I love it! It's good as new still and it's light and has good suction and a battery with good longevity. It seems quite well made. The one time I clogged it seemingly beyond redemption (my fault, neglect) it was revived. I'm hoping to get the hand held soon when DM upgrades that, too.

I've spent years cleaning with Henry hoovers as they were what my retail brand used. Other than occasionally missing the length, I don't miss using the smug, hefty, awkward, low to the groundbfucker with crap suction.

Hate mine too! Stupid thing only works for about 5 minutes. What a rip off

Press the button on the handle. Then it will work for considerably longer....Not as much suction though. It took me 4 months to figure that out! A total waste of money! I hate this bloody cleaner :(

Worst money I have ever spent mine is utterly useless.

I'm with you OP. We have the Dyson Animal....The biggest load of shit ever! Not my choice..I was looking at the either the Shark or the GTECH. Whilst I was dithering deciding, DH went and bought this bloody, useless piece of mechanical shit!

What a waste of money!

Biggest waste of money and overhyped crap we have bought

A few weeks ago, my v6 kept cutting out. No issues with roller.
Took the big tube off and there was a flap of plastic just inside the hole where the crap goes through to the bin. It had closed over. I pushed it back open and it worked again.

I have an old Dyson DC34 and I love it. I'm sure it wouldn't last round my whole house, for me it basically replaces my dustpan and brush - I sweep the whole floor with a broom into a pile and then Dyson the pile, then go round all the edges with the long crevice nozzle. It occasionally does the stop-start but now I know that means something is lodged in the nozzle and it's lost suction, it's been easy to fix. It's lasted almost a decade now that I think about it and blocked only three times, all three times with clods of mud!

I have a Henry for upstairs and I hate it. It's unbelievably heavy, only seems to get good suction when I take the head off and apply the metal hose directly to the carpet. And I'm always getting coiled in the hose and tripping over the bastard.

The first time I used the Shark lift away I was a bit scared of it as it was so powerful it started moving on it's own across the carpet. Like 'Back off bitch, I got this!' Bloody brilliant.

Exactly how I felt on first using mine too. Suction is that great My abs are toning up nicely from pushing it about Grin

I have a v8? And I hate the sodding thing. So expensive and so crap. It whizzes the bits I'm trying to pick up out the back of the head. I phoned Dyson customer services to tell them it didn't work properly and they told me if the bristles were rotating then it couldn't be broken. Nothing else can break apparently Confused so I'm stuck with it. Massive waste of money.

GTech air ram shit too.

Bought the k9 version after puppy chewed cable if my corded vaccine cable. It's lighter for me and doesn't heart by back as much and it's handy for rooms that don't need cleaning so much but with a dog that moulds like mental it's needed more often downstairs esp the living room and battery doesn't last long it's either needing cleaning out or in charge. Not as practical or as efficiency as I thought. Had it a year and got fed up and bought a shark. LOVE that. Air ram will go in caravan (where it'll be ideal)

I think all of them will get hair wrapped round the rollers. I don't think that can be prevented (unless there are no bristled rollers!)

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/03/2019 19:32

So does the v10 still get clogged with hair round the brushes?

I've got the V6 and loved the novelty of not lugging a massive corded monstrosity up and down the stairs. For about a week. Now I can't stand the sight of it.

I don't mind the constant emptying, which is to be expected with such a small bin. I don't mind the constant charging - again, it's to be expected with a cordless.

It's the fact that it only starts about 50% of the time (that flashing red light is the bane of my life), the back of the bin opens mid-hoover and empties the contents all over my carpet every single fucking time I use it, and it barely picks anything up any more. I've been trying to get through to Dyson Customer Service for weeks now and usually give up after about 15 minutes of being on hold.

I have a V6 and it’s such a moody twat!
Same problem as others, it jams up every 3.5 seconds, fills up more often than that, it’s absolute shite!
I emailed them very soon after i bought it listing my grievances and i got the biggest pile of fuck off in response so it looks like i’m stuck with the bugger!

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/03/2019 18:55

Well I didn't know my v6 had a filter so maybe I need to check that out! Grin

I think they are an excellent design

This is what I don't understand. If they are such a great design, why wouldn't mine hoover up anything bigger than dust? Anything like fragments of paper got stuck on a stupid rubber bit at the start of the tube bit and then caught everything else before blocking completely. It seemed to be a basic design flaw.

GooodMythicalMorning · 20/03/2019 18:33

we have a corded Dyson animal one and it's shit but not as shit as the newer multifloor rollerball one that doesnt pick up anything and constantly clogs. Its not the filters as filters are fine but it just never works properly.

I have had three Dyson’s and have loved all of them. The first hand held dustbuster was awesome, it was bought 2006 and has just died. In 2010 we bought upright DC24 (has a ball mechanism) and it’s still going strong. We also have cordless Fluffy and it’s excellent.

They all need bit of maintenance but mine haven’t needed anything excessive. I think they are an excellent design and innovation, bit bemused at how many people seem to have problems.
