AIBU to think that any coverage of her disappearance is a good thing. I watched two episodes of the Netflix programme and think that if it were to bring her back into the spotlight, then surely it’s worthwhile? I’m on my own in that opinion here in our house.

Accio you seem to have the same train of thought as me re this.

Your stance on this thread is not one of empathy to the McCanns imo
the poster I directed that comment at certainly hasn’t and has admitted as much herself.

I will ask again, please show where I have admitted as much myself? Or are you making this up to bolster your case against anyone who doubts the McCanns on anything?

SwiftAnchor · 17/03/2019 15:22

It was actually in the documentary that Philip Green supplied the plane that flew them around Europe. Clement Freud befriended them, that was in Kate's book. Gerry has the wallet story on his blog. Not sure how things already out there could get this thread deleted!

ColeHawkins

Why would you think that?

ColeHawlins · 17/03/2019 15:23

Because why quote the most libellous posts otherwise?

YogaWannabe · 17/03/2019 15:23

What?! Wtf are you talking about @ColeHawlins?!

The only comments I’ve made were one wondering why MN are so OTT about these threads and another questioning a shocking piece of info I had never heard before?

youarenotkiddingme · 17/03/2019 15:23

Could people please stop speculating. So far this thread has been a non blame discussion of what was shown on Netflix documentary.

Discuss information portrayed in that as fact.

Don't discuss wild rumour or this thread will go. And mostly it's been informative.

ColeHawlins · 17/03/2019 15:24

Well wise up and stop repeating the dodgiest claims then.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/03/2019 15:24

it wasn't 'a shocking piece of info' it was malicious unfounded clap trap

ColeHawlins · 17/03/2019 15:25

That last was to @YogaWannabe

itwaseverthus · 17/03/2019 15:25

I agree Cole There is so much nonsense about sex offender registers, never any hard evidence to back up the claims yet something solid like a statement from an actual witness Martin Smith being glossed over or outright lied about in a BBC documentary! Look over there, not over here.

acciocat · 17/03/2019 15:25

Ah MNHQ back on duty! Bye bye discussion of known fact.

YogaWannabe · 17/03/2019 15:26

Highlighting to ask a question isn’t repeating the information as new.

Get a grip and adjust your tinfoil hat

ghostyslovesheets · 17/03/2019 15:26

also people need to watch the thing - not just 2 or 3 episodes

the documentary seems to mirror the way the thing played out

Saying 'I watched episode 3 and the dogs thing made me go cold' is to ignore the information discrediting and questioning that evidence

look at the whole thing - then draw your own conclusions

Molytol · 17/03/2019 15:27

another questioning a shocking piece of info I had never heard before?

Because its conspiracy theory nonsense. Daft rumours get repeated over and over (Gerry did 9/11! Kate is best friends with a lizard!) And treated as fact.

Just take the fridge nonsense, which comes straight from Amaral's pet theory for missing children.

I’m not bolstering anything! My interpretation of your posts is one of a lack of empathy for the McCanns and the situation they found themselves in because they chose to leave their children.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 17/03/2019 15:29

Frued . I know its since come out of his sick nonce nature but was that known , commonly, at the time the McCanns were holidaying there ?? Not that it makes a difference now, I have a whole different outlook after watching, but I cannot remember if it came out after his death, like Savile etc, or prior .

Bollox to that - I challenged a patently obvious untruth rather than let it stand.
Lists are published, he isn't on it - because if he was he wouldn't be working where he is.

I will ask a third time. Please show where I have admitted to having no empathy. You said I admitted as much. Where?

YogaWannabe · 17/03/2019 15:30

Because its conspiracy theory nonsense.

Well that’s fine but what the hell is wrong for asking the person who posted it what they’re on about? Seriously, some of you need to unclench!

ODFOD
Nah I’m ok here, thanks.

LuaDipa · 17/03/2019 15:30

I agree that discussing the decisions made by the McCanns and the entire group achieves nothing, however I do feel that this act clouded the entire case. I think the PJ judged their actions heavily and this affected the way the handled the case from the beginning. I think they jumped to conclusions (incorrectly) about the general standards of parenting and focused on MM wondering off or being harmed by her parents as the only possible outcomes, and as a result completely botched the investigation. I should clarify that I don’t think for a minute that the McCanns harmed their dd, and I never have.

I clearly remember the shift change in the news reports at the time, when the McCanns were (understandably) refusing to leave Portugal until M had been found. The interviews with locals began, blaming them for the disappearance and asking why they had left their dc, and saying that they were affecting business in the area and they wished they would just leave. It was at this point the McCanns were named as arguidos, and I remember feeling utterly appalled and that it was the PJ’s way of getting rid of them so they could wind up the investigation. With the McCanns gone, the tv cameras would surely follow, and that is exactly what happened. The McCanns insistence that Madeleine was taken is probably as a result of this possibility being completely disregarded in the beginning.

I truly wish that the British Police had been involved from the outset. The PJ were ill-equipped to deal with this, and determined to blame it on an ‘outsider’ whether that was Murat or the McCanns, anything that would protect the local tourist industry. I am glad they have found the strength to keep fighting after the way they were treated.

You can say "bollox to that" all you like, but you've all been deleted for it and when the threads hit Swiss cheese point, the whole thread ends up deleted.

So stop doing it.
