Transvaginal ultrasound AIBU to be close to tears?

I have an infection in my vagina, a stinging in there, and when I sit down, I feel like a painful football is bouncing around my insides - not my vagina, my uterus area, inside my tummy.
I also have an issue internally (bleeding and pelvic pain) which is why I'm being referred for US.
AIBU to be doing the female equivalent of my balls shrinking into my scrotum at the thoughts of anything going up my vagina?
Is there any way I can make a probe up my vagina tomorrow possible? I want to find out what's going on clearly, but the thoughts of the pain is upsetting me. Plus I'm not sure whether they'll manage to get anything up there.
Any advice?

I haven't RTFT so apologies but I'm sure I've inserted the wand myself before after I've explained my concerns. I hope that's an option for you as that way you can go as slowly as you need to

Toddlerteaplease · 14/03/2019 23:34

I've had one. Not painful at all. I find smear tests agony. But this was fine.

ifpossible · 14/03/2019 23:42

I had this scan done in December. I can honestly say it was nowhere as horrendous or evasive as I expected and I was absolutely dreading it. It is for the best that you have it done - once it is done it’s done and hopefully you will soon be on the road to recovery Smile

StellaRockafella · 15/03/2019 07:22

I've had a few TV scans recently and have always asked to insert the wand myself as I feel more in control that way/the procedure feels less invasive.

Hope all goes well for you OP.

Hazlenutpie · 15/03/2019 08:47

Everything crossed for you OP, that things go okay. I’m an ovarian cancer survivor and I know how horrible tests and waiting for results is. 💐

bigdecisionstomake · 15/03/2019 08:56

Haven't rtft so apologise in advance if anyone else has covered this but there was one sentence in your post that resonated with me. I had a problem with recurrent and quite serious UTIs a few years ago and the feeling when sitting (and sometime standing too) of a ball bouncing painfully around in my insides was something I can remember vividly. I can remember discussing it with the consultant urologist and him raising an eyebrow and saying that was a new one on him but eventually when the infection cleared the feeling went away and it is always my early warning signal of a new UTI starting when I start to feel the 'bouncy ball' pain again even now. Might be worth getting tested for that too if you haven't already. They gave me a transvaginal ultrasound during the same investigations and actually it was perfectly fine but appreciate I dont' have the same issues that you do - maybe take some ibuprofen or similar 30-40 mins prior to the procedure to help? Good luck xx Flowers

AnyWalls · 15/03/2019 10:20

Thanks for the support guys. Yes, I'm the same with the 2 pints of water lol. Afraid I'll wet myself Blush
Ok, will ask GP to check for a UTI.

I know why you’re nervous Any I’ve had so much treatment and investigation done, for so many things and would consider myself as having a very high pain threshold and good attitude to treatment. Then you get to a kind of poking and prodding and PAIN saturation point where you feel like one more thing will tip you over the edge! I would strongly recommend that you have that abdominal scan today and get the treatment for the infection sorted before the transvaginal one. Also ask them if you can go for a wee straight after the abdominal one (if you are determined to have the TV), because, as I understand it, you don’t need a full bladder for the TV. I wouldn’t necessarily panic about he fact that they’ve sent you urgently, I can hardly get a GP appointment where I am, but scans seem to have appointments available within a few days. It's imperative that you get that vaginal infection seen to though. If you get antibiotics that work, the infection will start to ease after a couple of days, so the delay in the TV ultrasound won’t be too long.

ifpossible · 15/03/2019 10:52

When I had the normal scan I had drank way too much water and didn’t think i was going to make it through Blush When she said she would need to go ahead & do the internal one she let me go to the toilet as they don’t need a full bladder for it. The relief was immense ha! I didn’t want to be too graphic in my last post but I know you are worried cos of how sore you feel down there about it going in. But tbh it was like the size of an electric toothbrush head and it didn’t go in very far at all. I was shocked I was expecting a whole lot worse!

MumW · 15/03/2019 10:59

Good luck.
If you've co-codomol then take that with the ibroprofen instead of paracetemol on it's own.

AndBabyMakes3 · 15/03/2019 14:00

@AnyWalls how did the scan go? Hope it wasn't too painful and that you managed to get through it okay

TooManyBiscuitsNotEnoughTea · 15/03/2019 14:44

It will be fine! Usually they are not painful at all but I can understand your concern because you are sore down there anyway.

Just try to relax, they wont want to hurt you.

I had a HSG a few weeks ago and the build up to it was a lot worse than the actual examination.

TwoRoundabouts · 15/03/2019 14:47

I had one and was made to empty my bladder. For some reason I read you were suppose to have a full bladder but the sonographer said no you need to go to toilet first.

mummymayhem18 · 15/03/2019 15:06

Hope you got through your appointment ok? ☺️

Deadposhtory · 15/03/2019 15:08

I had one and I'm terrified of smear tests ect. It was totally fine

user1467718508 · 15/03/2019 15:56

Hope today went ok, OP Flowers

100% time for your favourite indulgent treat, whatever form that takes.

AnyWalls · 15/03/2019 16:37

Had scan. Did the Transabdominal one first and after about 60 seconds said I'm going to do the TV as I can't see the ovaries from here Hmm (are my ovaries in an odd position lol)
Anyway, it was slightly stingy on the way in but was utterly fine.

Outcome was that lining of womb is thick. No mass, no cysts, nothing to see here. She said she will be sending report back to GP to say lining is thick and I will be called back for another scan in 6-8 weeks.

I asked her what 'the lining of the womb is thick' meant and she said that it should clear out after a period. (I have daily bleeding of varying degrees for months). She said it could be something hormonal. So I suppose they'll see are in a couple of months and maybe refer me for further investigation then.

Thanks for the help. I forgot to take the painkillers but was totally fine.

OP posts:
AnyWalls · 15/03/2019 16:45

She did ask whether I was given anything to stop periods and I said that because I've a history of a PE (pulmonary embolism), I haven't been prescribed anything. She said 'oh they can't then'.

She was very nice. It was a woman thankfully (letter stated it may be a man).

She said there's nothing physically wrong, but 'the problem is you're bleeding'.

Maybe it's just one of those things I just have to accept.

OP posts:
justmyview · 15/03/2019 16:47

well done, good it's over

AnyWalls · 15/03/2019 16:48

So I suppose the question is why my body is not behaving as it should ie building up the lining of the womb, no pregnancy, you have a period. Mine appears to be permanently there.

OP posts:
AnyWalls · 15/03/2019 16:49

Oh and she said cervix looked fine (that was on my mind).

OP posts:
AnyWalls · 15/03/2019 16:50

Maybe my body is clinging on to having another pregnancy lol (it will be a while waiting!)

OP posts:
AnyWalls · 15/03/2019 16:52

I wonder whether it's relevant that I had a c-section due to a placental abruption? And I refused to dilate. I think my reproductive organs are on the slow side lol.

OP posts:
AnyWalls · 15/03/2019 16:53

I'm actually fascinated that I managed to get pregnant and carry a baby to term as it seems my body hasn't a fucking clue what it's doing.

aibutohavethisusername · 15/03/2019 17:02

Glad to hear that it went well and that there was nothing serious to see. I hope the bleeding goes down soon xx
