Or is this RIDICULOUS!!! - Wedding

I get married in 12 weeks time.

I booked a hairstylist over eight months ago! After careful consideration...etc. (I’d heard good things about this salon/ read reviews online).

I asked to come in for a trial earlier but was told no, not until 2-3 months before- this seemed to be standard practise amongst wedding hair stylist...so fine.

Went for my ‘trial’ the other day (keeping in mind that it’s a stately home wedding, and I have two very shy under 10 flower girls looking forward to getting their hair done, so I want the morning getting ready to be chilled out...etc)

The woman I’d expected (heard good things about) was no longer there. The woman who did my hair was...not right. I’m not even kidding. My mother (who came with me) had to go for a walk, she felt so uncomfortable and some of the things the salon staff were saying 🙄.

Also, heavily tattooed (sleeves down both arms and neck). Long black acrylic nails- absoloutley wouldn’t look right in any getting ready pics. And my hair started falling out 30 mine after I left 😒

Not an option. So I rang about 20 other wedding hair stylists yesterday to be told...sorry we book like a year in advance. Which is fair enough, but if none of them offer trials until 2-3 months before the date, then what the hell are you supposed to do if your trial goes horribly???

You have no other choice!!!

Short of not getting a hairstylist (and we need one)...I have no idea what the hell to do!

....unless, like me, that sort of thing is preferable. I would rejoice if this lady did mine. The majority of us get stuck with the fake tanned, trendy haired, "you OK hun" type who have all fallen through the same mould and would probably go home from a good, fun, alternative wedding saying "ermergerd, I had to do hair for these freaks, they were like, sooooo ratchet".

You sound as judgmental as the OP.

What's rachet? I love new insults!

gokartdillydilly · 14/03/2019 15:33

OP, please go to the Weddings Forum and read a post 'Death Before Wedding'. It may give you some perspective.

downcasteyes · 14/03/2019 15:37

They're not in Shoreditch are they? I had a salon like that do my hair/makeup for a work event and they were expensive and awful! (Not because of tattoos, because they didn't do a good job).

zoomies1 · 14/03/2019 15:41

There are so many threads on here where people say if its someone's wedding and they are paying for it, they should be able to have it the way they want it. I don't really understand why this is different. If the OP was uncomfortable and the hairstyle started coming undone after 30 mins, I can understand why she would look for someone else.

Planning a wedding is stressful and it is annoying when you think you have something sorted and then it changes.

There will be lovely, good people who are still free. Just keep looking.

You lost any/All sympathy with this appallingly judgemental comment.

Wouldn't look right in 'Getting ready photos' God my heart bleeds for you 🙄

Judgy pants peeking coquettishly out of garment bag

😂

Equimum · 14/03/2019 15:55

I would say on your judgements if the woman’s appearance, YABU. However, if the hair fell out very quickly, it’s not good enough.

FWIW, I had my hair done at the village salon where we were getting married. They had lots of ideas at my trial, and did a fantastic job on the day. Maybe try a small boutique salon and see if they can help.

Also am I the only one that was so hungover on my wedding morning that I only merged from the bathroom once everyone else was done Blush

Jaxhog · 14/03/2019 15:58

Tattoo comments aside, if she didn't do a good job, then she's unsuitable. Tbh, the salon should have told you that the stylist you booked with is no longer there.

Is there any chance you could track the stylist down and ask her to do your hair at wherever she is now, or at your home?

ClaireElizabethBeuchampFraser · 14/03/2019 16:02

She sounds like my gorgeous cousin, only add amazing rainbow hair! My cousin is lovely and a bloody amazing hairdresser and colourist! You sound like a snob!

LaMarschallin · 14/03/2019 16:05

I did note that the OP said her hair started "falling out" 30 minutes later. I presume (even though, when I do that, I'm making a "pres" out of "u" and "me" and, goodness knows, the current Pres is an ass) she meant the style falling out rather than actual baldness occurring, so I guess she wouldn't be happy with this hairdresser even if she had no tattoos/wore sleeves.

Which is sad because I could see an opening as an arm double. I have no tattoos and would be happy to have the manicure of the OP's choice. I regularly massage my arms with ungulents (I think... may be getting confused as Cleopatra bathed in milk). Anyway, I'd make sure they were in as good a nick as I could get them.
Also I'm of an age where my arms wouldn't be so dazzling that they'd outshine the bride's own limbs - appalling etiquette.

There could be good money in this.

TapasForTwo · 14/03/2019 16:05

"I would have politely asked she wear a long sleeve top"

I don't think that would go down well.

And "getting ready" photos? Really? Is this a thing now?

anniehm · 14/03/2019 16:07

What's a getting ready photo??? All that matters is whether your hair looks good

thecatsthecats · 14/03/2019 16:08

You sound as judgmental as the OP.

I don't think that's fair. Unless you are actually friends with every kind of person, and aren't annoyed by certain personality types, you can't say that you wouldn't prefer a person you gelled with to spend quite a lot of time with you on your wedding day.

I'm not much of an appearances person. I've been to hairdressers who tell me off for not doing my hair right with forty fucking lotions twice weekly. I've had them complain about how 'thick and wiry' or even 'coarse' my hair is (cheers - I actually just want you to do your job and cut/treat it?). My hairdresser for my wedding was lovely, and was especially lovely to my shy, nervous mum - which was massively important to me.

I frankly don't believe that you find personality so unimportant in someone you spend time with on your wedding day.

LaMarschallin · 14/03/2019 16:12

@MatildaTheGreat
Excellent judgy pants.
And peach! Lovely for a wedding.

iknowimcoming · 14/03/2019 16:23

Matilda is that your gran in your painting with her hands by your waist? Also is she/was she a pirate? Grin nice skull and crossbones hat that!

My sister-in-law wore black nail varnish to my wedding, matched her mood, outfit and personality perfectly Hmm

pallisers · 14/03/2019 16:29

She did have tattoos, but I just asked the artist to paint her arms, well, arm coloured.

That made me laugh out loud.

I went to a salon a while ago where one of the stylists had quite severe tourettes. They warned all new clients. She did my hair once and everything was fine as long as we chatted but if we weren't chatting she would burst out with "fucking cunt and piss".

Calzone · 14/03/2019 16:30

So funny when you start a thread and it goes tits up straight away 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What the heck are 'getting ready pictures'?

I mean, I can guess what they are but I've never heard before of anyone having them taken.
