Boss being awkward because I have given in my notice at work

Basically I have given in my 1 month notice at work and I have until March 22nd there (start new job March 25th).

Since I have given in my notice my Boss has changed towards me as in being really like having no patience around me, telling me I am too slow at my job (she has never in the 7 years I have been there said this to me), looking at me in a rude way, not saying good morning/bye or being chatty and she tells another work colleague to tell me when she wants something done (again she has never done this before).

AIBU to think that she is upset with me for leaving? I only have 1 and a half weeks left but to me it seems like she is micro managing me and watching my every move (not my imagination others have noticed this too)

What is the best way to handle this situation as obviously I don't want to cause any bad feelings before I leave?

Also must add the person before me that left my Boss wasn't in on his last day and got him nothing or wished him well for the future.

Two more days Clown. I hope you have organised an especially nice evening out on Friday to celebrate! Good Luck. Shake that dust from your sandals as you walk out!

Foslady · 20/03/2019 18:27

16 hours until freedom.....

eastereggtime · 20/03/2019 18:42

Lots of bosses take it personally when you leave. Just ignore it and count down the hours

Peghi · 20/03/2019 18:48

However, I don't see why we as a company should bend over backwards to thank someone leaving for a competitor. Not only are they turning their back on the company and their colleagues, but they're going to be actively working against us in future. They need to be made an example of to discourage others IMO.

Surely gardening leave and non competition clauses would be simpler and more legal

Something similar happened to me. Star worker who received many awards and praise. I put in a transfer so I could be closer to family. Not only did my boss treat be like a piece of trash later he talked negatively to customers and employees about me. Sadly I was transferring in the same company so he was able to call the other manager and tell her all sorts of lies about my performance. She cancelled the transfer. When I made a complaint to the district manager I was told "her managers are smart women who would not be swayed by a man." I was shocked. You were nice enough to give an entire months notice! Unfortunately, people do not care, when they feel like they have been slighted they lash out exponentially worse then what they received. You are focused on not rocking the boat to save connections and not burn bridges. Sometimes you just have to cut ties for your own sanity.

I remember one badly run company I worked with where a colleague who was leaving gave some very honest answers in her exit interview. The boss spent the rest of the day arguing with her by email, but she had her next job nailed down and nothing to lose so carried on being honest in response. For the rest of us it was hilarious, but God only knows what idiot boss thought he was going to achieve. If he hadn't convinced her of his wonderfulness by that point he was hardly going to change her mind with a few stroppy emails.

I suspect he may now be working for YellowFish's company.

Staff working their notice are no longer treated as part of the organisation at my place- that means they lose access to the IT system and have to ask permission from senior management to access it. They also lose their car park space and are no longer allowed to access our canteen or kitchen. In most cases, we immediately reassign them to the photocopying room and change them to weekend shifts

Ha ha, I'd love that.

I wouldn't bother asking for permission to the IT system. If the company want to pay me for lounging around the office checking out Facebook on my phone and drinking tea that's great.

Of course I'd be turning up late and leaving early because I'd be relying on public transport as no parking space.

I'd also take a 2 hour lunch as I'd need to leave and find a restaurant for lunch due to no canteen access and restaurant service can be so slow.

No need to ring in sick at all. I'm sure I'd do a small amount of photocopying in the limited time i was there. Though of course photocopiers are very temptemental and sometimes break down and you end to wait for the engineer to come.

And nothing the company could do! By the time they've started any proceedings for poor work I'd be long gone. And if they sacked me with immediate effect it gets me out my notice period. Win, win.

And if I worked for a company which treated employees like Yellowfishes does it would positively encourage me to job hunt ASAP.

I wonder if Yellowfish's not-at-all-imaginary company has reviews on Glassdoor? Wouldn't most people do a quick Google before they apply, or at least before they attend the interview? If the facts as presented by Yellowfish are also mentioned on Glassdoor then it's surprising they can fill any vacancies at all. Grin

Most likely my “old” boss won’t be in Friday but if she is should I say bye and thank you or just leave

Mermaidcritical · 20/03/2019 20:19

"I'm off then, bye" should suffice

Mermaidcritical · 20/03/2019 20:25

Dont say thank you fgs. If you must say anything say "all the best". I promise if you say thanks you'll beat yourself up about it for years! (Been there.....)

JenniferJareau · 21/03/2019 07:01

I'd completely ignore her when you leave. Say goodbye to anyone you were friendly with but just walk away. If she says anything to you as you are leaving I'd give her the 'you're lower that shit on my shoe' look and walk away.

I'm feeling grouchy this morning so maybe that might be a bit mean Grin

@Foslady

Public sector, huge organisation here and all our notice periods are in calendar months - amount of notice varies by grade.

zippey · 22/03/2019 13:42
