To ask who is the longest serving contributor to Mumsnet

I've lurked for ages but only fairly recently plucked up the courage to contribute. Noticed the Podcast thread about how it all started and just wondered who is the longest serving member and how many of the first contributors are still here? Might be difficult to find out I guess or maybe not, I'm no expert on these matters!

I’ve been here since 2000 Blush. Used to lurk, think I actually signed up in 2001. I remember when you used to get up, make a cup of tea and read the last day’s posts!

TidyDancer · 09/03/2019 07:33

I think I first registered in 2010 when pregnant with DD. I already had DS. I've had a couple of long term usernames over the years though. If anyone does know me though, this is the name they know me for because of the whole gluezilla debacle.

When I joined it was a bit of a rude awakening, was torn to strips by a prolific poster (at the time she was anyway) for no good reason. She was vile to me (total playground bully mentality, arrogant/nasty etc) and it took a while for me to want to post again after that, came back with a name change.

HankNPat · 09/03/2019 07:40

BIWI and Blondes, there are London meet ups still, but more low key - they tend to start at lunchtime on a Saturday and go on for as long as people can last the distance! But people dip in and out during the day anyway. Usually a couple of times a year - late Spring and just pre-Christmas (November ish). There's no invitation, as such, you just have to keep your eyes out for a London Meet Up Thread.

UrsulaPandress · 09/03/2019 08:22

I was petrified of some of the MN Royalty when I first joined. And ridiculously pleased when they let me into the gang.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2019 08:33

@PUGaLUGS

That’s not helpful. I have slept in many beds 😂😂😂 and made people give me their side 😘😘

@BIWI - yes I R.E.M. the money fall out :(

We used to have such fabulous fun at the meets

And yes miss secret Santa

Sobs. Life was different then :(

But I also R.E.M. the warmth and love I received after my husband died and that’s almost 8yrs ago

Time really does fly

@HankNPat I’ve obv missed those threads the past few years :(

Dd is now 2 so haven’t been for least 3yrs as def wasn’t preg and sober

Franksinatra · 09/03/2019 08:35

Where do you find your user number? I look on the account settings and can't see mine.

prettybird · 09/03/2019 08:44

I also met a lovely MNer at an event our kids were competing at. She was of course really friendly and it was great to talk to her in RL. Flowers

In fact, I've never met a MNer who's not lovely Grin I've arranged to meet a few of the Scottish MN Low-Fat Boot Campers for coffee (no CakeWink) and had a really good natter.

As I've mentioned, I went to a couple of the London meet-ups and have met a few of the people who've posted on this thread. In addition we used to organise regular Scottish Christmas lunches/dinners, which were usually very boozy affairs Blush (Didn't matter what time they started, they still involved the last train from Edinburgh back to Glasgow Wink) There were a few summer ones too [hic] Blush. There were also a few lunches with your youngsters, eg at a place that also had a small soft play area, or at Edinburgh Zoo which weren't so boozy

I miss the Christmas events as they were a good opportunity to dress up and meet interesting people. Smile

Bloomburger · 09/03/2019 08:45

Since DD was 2. She's 18 now!

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 09/03/2019 08:49

Wgats FWR

IggyPoppers · 09/03/2019 08:50

10 years for me but I've been through lots of name changes. Recently I've wondered if I've outgrown MN. I'm done having babies. I have no interest in bun fights over breastfeeding. Mumsnet lacks the humour it used to have. I miss the funny threads. Everything seems to be so serious now.

Roomba · 09/03/2019 08:56

I wondered that too, can't find my user number anywhere.

I was on GUT (old guardian talkboards) and Bad Mothers Club before MN, then lurked on here from about 2004. I think I registered and started posting in 2006? I was always more of a GUT user until that was shut down suddenly.

BoumBoumBoum · 09/03/2019 09:10

Blimey. I joined when dd was a baby and she is nearly 15. It’s changed a lot.

PUGaLUGS · 09/03/2019 09:20

@Blondes 😆

It’s Bella 😘

user564534 · 09/03/2019 09:22

I found user number - only visible on the desktop site. 9564!

Raisinbrain · 09/03/2019 09:42

Is it me? I've been here since 2005/2006. Grin

prettybird · 09/03/2019 09:47

No Raisin - I've been on since 2001 and there are some who were here in 2000 Grin

NurseNancyandDoctorDavid · 09/03/2019 09:52

Since 2002/2003, it used to a all fields round here...Grin

Lots of name changes.

DavidDavidDavid · 09/03/2019 09:55

I believe this thread might be of interest.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/a3376839-Longest-serving-username-PLUS-freaky-numerological-coincidence

We found @LIZS has used that name continuously and has posts going back to March 2001. I understand that earlier posts are not accessible anymore, so that's going to be hard to beat!

DavidDavidDavid · 09/03/2019 09:57

Full disclosure: I started that other thread - I've name-changed in honour of reaching the 100th thread on the Radio Addicts board discussing The Archers.

OddBodsAndGladRags · 09/03/2019 09:57

2005 for me. Didn't name change at all (couldn't suss it out) until recent years.

It is different now. But some sections still provide great support.

Twisique · 09/03/2019 09:59

It was either 2002 0r 2003 for me, I was mums netting while in labour with my daughter and she is 15 now! I have always name changed regularly. I used to be on a now defunct parenting site before that and recognised a couple of people who kept the same name when they moved over here.

Twisique · 09/03/2019 10:01

We used to do a Christmas card swap, that was fun.

LIZS · 09/03/2019 10:04

Thanks daviddavidavid ! Joined when pg with dd who is about to leave school. That was back in the dialup days, pre broadband and wifi.

EustaciaVye · 09/03/2019 10:23

About 15 years. Various names and some long gaps.

I remember Trinity/gecko, and the moldies era

haverhill · 09/03/2019 10:25

2007 here. Four name changes I think.
