To ask who is the longest serving contributor to Mumsnet

I've lurked for ages but only fairly recently plucked up the courage to contribute. Noticed the Podcast thread about how it all started and just wondered who is the longest serving member and how many of the first contributors are still here? Might be difficult to find out I guess or maybe not, I'm no expert on these matters!

I joined whilst living overseas, and I moved back in 2004! But I haven't consistently posted as I've had times without a computer and only had a compatible smart phone for a year

HugAndRoll · 09/03/2019 11:04

I'm not sure how long I've been here, it's at least 7 years. I posted a lot back then, but have only recently come back. I recognise the old names being posted in this thread more than I do those currently posting in chat threads.

I do, however, recognise SPB. I always wanted to be one of the prolific Mumsnetters (a category I put SPB into); I now realise how silly that is! Blush

April 2005 for me. DS was 3 and obsessed with cars. He passed his driving test this week and has made me redundant as drives himself to school.

I remember lots of different posters named on here. Went to one London meet up. Met lots of nice people. Then they all joined Moldies! It was that Christmas. I went away for Xmas and had no internet access and came back to see the fall out. Spent hours reading about it all!

BIWI I don’t remember anyone stealing money - that’s terrible. The initial secret Santa was great but the later ones become a bit odd with people being nominated by cronies and I gave up on it all. And I seem to remember one poster who was always very keen to run it all. Too keen. I think that she tried for a couple of years and it raised flags for me. Think it was then that MN took it over.

I name changed last year but was a variation of Buda for years.

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2019 12:10

October 2011 so a relative newbie.

Some cheeky whatsit sent me a PM asking 'who did you used to be?'. Er, I have just joined!

iklboo · 09/03/2019 12:15

13 years for me. Joined when I saw an ad in a pregnancy magazine. DS is 14 this year, taller than me and sounds like Barry White Grin

Doobydoobeedoo · 09/03/2019 12:35

2002'ish for me but I've name-changed since.

Early names I can remember are Suedonim, Peachy, JanH, Blu, and Jimjams.

My then-toddler will be 19 this year.

We had dial-up internet.

NunoGoncalves · 09/03/2019 12:39

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2019 12:49

Lol nuno

ShowOfHands · 09/03/2019 12:55

15 years. I haven't aged a day. I also lie far more than I used to.

SauvignonBlanche · 09/03/2019 12:59

Only since 2007 (in a different persona) and since 2010 in this one. Have stopped feeling like a newbie now.

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 09/03/2019 12:59

I think my first post was about 15/16 years ago. I asked for a prom reccomendation and then got sucked in. Some of my favourite people are from here, some fabulous strong, intelligent and compassionate women. I then drifted off for a long time. I came back after being sent a woolly hugs blanket a few years ago but don’t post so much now because most of the MNers I associated with are now FB friends and so I ask them advice on there. Many are now real life friends and even a godmother to one of my children.

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 09/03/2019 13:00

I have always felt like a newbie on here!

elliejjtiny · 09/03/2019 13:03

I was ivillage royalty and then I joined mumsnet when ivillage closed down, around 2012 I think.

BIWI · 09/03/2019 13:32

Oh - I know you @Peridot1!

I'm not sure there ever really was any money stolen - just a lot of nasty accusations and, frankly, very unpleasant bullying of a particular MNetter.

And I remember the woman who was so keen to take SecretSanta over (although can't remember her name) - she was a bit weird.

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2019 13:37

Oh yes I remember that, I think I joined during the fallout from that.

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2019 13:38

No actually it was more recent wasn't it, I just want paying attention.

Greensleeves · 09/03/2019 13:39

13 years for me

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2019 13:39

Peridot so you're buda!

Prequelle · 09/03/2019 13:42

Is AnyFucker not around anymore then? I'm surprised Relationships has lasted then Wink

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2019 13:44

I hope she is. She is brilliant. I'm sure I've seen her fairly recently.

Prequelle · 09/03/2019 13:45

I thought I had seen her name too but wasn't sure!

oldtimer99 · 09/03/2019 13:49

My ID number is 930

I know from previous threads asking the same question that my number is 700 and something, my first child was born in 1999 and I joined MN when it was very new, I even had my own first name as my username for a while as there were so few members

I posted for a while when my DC were small, then didn't for years and have started again recently, I've had loads of names in that time, never been a well known poster

Calzone · 09/03/2019 13:50

In settings you have an ID number.

I’m 15348 which I think means I’m one of 15, 348 people.
Been here 17 years. Remember the Pie issue in the early days.

Be interesting to know what the numbers are now.

Tiredmumno1 · 09/03/2019 13:51

12 years roughly, still with my original name Smile.

Although I don't post as much, I just like having a read through. Have made a few friends over the years.
