To ask who is the longest serving contributor to Mumsnet

I've lurked for ages but only fairly recently plucked up the courage to contribute. Noticed the Podcast thread about how it all started and just wondered who is the longest serving member and how many of the first contributors are still here? Might be difficult to find out I guess or maybe not, I'm no expert on these matters!

Think I might have been here about 8 years.
Never done a name change or had any meets.

I was a very active member of Netmums before coming on here and did a few meet ups.

I prefer it here ...

prettybird · 08/03/2019 23:01

I've never bothered to name change (except that 1st time when I inadvertently embarrassed a relative, when I thought I was actually complimenting what he'd achieved) as anyone who knows me would recognise me and I never post anything that I wouldn't stand by in Real Life.

The couple of times I've deliberately name changed (as opposed to Christmas/Halloween changes) have been to protect others, if I'm sharing something that would embarrass or hurt them (given that I'm not that anonymous).

RomanyQueen1 · 08/03/2019 23:06

Think I'm 8 years 9 at tops.
it's changed such a lot in that time. I bet it's unrecognisable from the early days.
it would be good to hear the names of those from the start.
Maybe we should keep resurrecting old threads, until MNHQ give us what we want. Wall of fame sounds good, then if the posters are still here they could give a little speech Grin

Waves back to Blondeshavemorefun Gin

I was talking about you earlier today with dh as we were reminiscing about that trip to London for the Olympics and you came to a mini Slinkies meet-up. Smile

The MN wedding was something I did on a whim. Somebody posted saying she was planning to get married in secret and was looking for witnesses. It was local to me and I thought it would be a nice thing to do.

I turned up at the town hall on the day and signed the register. The couple were sweet and very appreciative.

It's a long and outing story about why the wedding was secret. The short version is they didn't want the big fat traditional wedding, just wanted to be married to each other.

Redpriestandmozart · 08/03/2019 23:11

Ten years with the same name, but since I have MS and a shit memory I can't remember older names.

prettybird · 08/03/2019 23:11

I remember Zombie from a couple of meet-ups. She was a baaaad influence WinkWine

I love the fact that she continues to be remembered via Candie's Hugs for cancer patients.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/03/2019 23:11

PUGaLUGS · 08/03/2019 23:13

@Blondes... we have been roomies 😘 I let you sleep on your side of the bed even though it was my side 😁.

gnushoes · 08/03/2019 23:16

Since 2008 I think. I don't wade in much.

prettybird · 08/03/2019 23:16

There are also quite a few that I'm now FB and RL friends with who have come off MN.

Others who are still active on MN that I have to remember not to use their real names, now that I know them! Grin

SweetMarmalade · 08/03/2019 23:16

I ‘think’ I’ve been posting for approx 10 years, I’ve had multiple name changes.

Ds is 12 and I joined Bounty initially (boy, that seems so long ago) but then discovered Mumsnet and never looked back.

Frazzled74 · 08/03/2019 23:18

I joined 2003 desperate for sleep!

thewinkingprawn · 08/03/2019 23:18

My DD will be 10 this year so that long under 3 name changes. Wow! I remember breast feeding in the middle of the night with mumsnet to keep me company. I have 3 now and still waste a lot of my time on it 😂

Enko · 08/03/2019 23:19

I know it was in 2000 as dd2 was a baby but I can't recall when.

I am sure there used to be a way to see when you opened account

my id is 10071

SweetMarmalade · 08/03/2019 23:20

When I first joined Bounty I only had dial up connection too!

lhw92 · 08/03/2019 23:21

Only been here 4 years, but gosh the time has gone quickly
I’ve name changed 9 times or so😅 I haven’t even posted anything that identifying but for some unknown reason I get paranoid

Sadiesnakes · 08/03/2019 23:21

Been here since 2007, but lurked for years..

Notso · 08/03/2019 23:22

Was there a time on MN when chat used to go offline? I remember visiting a parenting site when DD was a baby in 2000/2001 when chat used to be unavailable at times.

TrotOnCustard · 08/03/2019 23:32

2003, looking for advice on baby gear
Had baby, loads of advice through the years, comes & goes
2018, back for the menopause!

IndigoApple · 09/03/2019 00:38

I first posted 10 years ago next month! A few name changes in that time.

DD was born the year Mumsnet started but unfortunately not only did I not know about it, I also only had Internet access at work, which would've been no good for maternity leave! However I do wish I'd had Mumsnet then.

I think when I did first hear about Mumsnet, at first I thought it wasn't for me. I may have got confused with Netmums! However once here I quickly became addicted.

Grin at back for the menopause custard, those years have passed too quickly!

EcclesThePeacock · 09/03/2019 00:50
