New fancy "mums brasserie" type place has opened in the London suburb where I live. Think zone 3, up and coming area. Lots of yummy mummies, baby classes, mums fitness, etc around. People have money to spend.

So they open this place that is marketed as a wellness and foodie experience where you can have lunch and spa treatments while they watch your little darlings. Sounds amazing, non?

They also will have classes for the kids that are put on by external providers, and a soft play area.

Okay, fine. Me and NCT friend decide to go and check it out just for lunch.

Well, I think I'm still in shock. No alcohol at all firstly - I tried to order a glass of Prosecco and they were like "what's that"? So clearly missing a trick there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Secondly, waiting staff obviously had never worked in so much as a greasy spoon previously as they were faffing around doing very little, extremely inattentive and managed to take an hour to bring our starters and a further 30 mins for our next courses. To be fair they claimed this was due to a power cut (which lasted about 5 mins after we had already been waiting for an hour).

Thirdly, it was eye wateringly expensive. Their sushi chef hadn't started yet and so they was barely anything on the menu that was available.

Our bill was £43, no alcohol, 1 tea, 1 latte, 1 dip with crudités, 1 broccoli soup, 1 stale foccacia slice, 1 eggs Benedict with cold sauce , 1 basic salad.

I waited an hour for a “Japanese style avocado salad” that was cucumber tomato and iceberg lettuce. The bread with my soup was stale.

So you would think we were offered our meal for free after all that wouldn't you? Well not only am I ashamed to say I didn't blink and paid the full £43 when asked but the owner had the audacity to offer us "a free dish next time you come".

I feel like they are totally ruining something that could have been great! And they are clearly mental and have done zero research. Membership is around £500 a year.

Just speechless.

Me too that was funny and I bet the thread is more interesting than this one

MatthewBramble · 15/03/2019 00:59

Bowchica Snap.

Booboo66 · 15/03/2019 07:18

@MrsTommyBanks please link us to the correct thread. Sounds fun 👀😆

Singlekiwimum · 09/04/2019 20:34

It’s run by Muslims, hence no alcohol.

Harebellsies · 09/04/2019 21:59

I would like to add that OP was very honorable in not naming the place, i would not have had her self-control. She has bern dignified throughout.
Just tried reading the half-arsed menu of the place - the lack of hyphens and the inconsistent capitalisations make it vexing to read so i couldn't get through it.
The owners non-apology is also a classic and not a place i would ever visit as i would just expect to be told off if i noted that my egg wasn’t runny as advertised but actually cold, or that my avocado was missing. Dreadful customer service projected to millions.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 09/04/2019 22:16

singlekiwimum do you know the owners? If you do, are they regretting getting involved with this thread?

makingmammaries · 10/04/2019 08:41

Well, congrats to the owners, having read their input, their website and their TripAdvisor reviews, I have made a mental note never to set foot in any of their branches as they roll the concept out internationally...

makingmammaries · 10/04/2019 08:50

But it would be fun, certainly, to see it cross the Channel so the French have a chance to react to the idea that you’re a bad person if you expect a drink in a brasserie where children are present.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 10/04/2019 08:51

making it certainly would. Can you imagine that going down well? Grin

DointItForTheKids · 10/04/2019 09:43

£15 for a totally veggie-only salad!!!!!!!!!!!
Find the menu really odd in general - all trying too hard.
How in fuck's name do you 'infuse' toast with Nutella?!!!! I spread it but there you go, that's just me.
Then there's a section of the menu designated 'After Hours' with a section for 'Lunch'?!

Batshit. Makes me so glad not to be in London around this sort of pretentious bollocks.

The operational model is really flawed and I'd be v surprised if they last beyond a year to two years. The offer is so wide-ranging, I don't imagine they've adequately costed out the break-even on the various activities and services. Pity whoever gave them investment money.

makingmammaries · 10/04/2019 11:22

Then there’s the unicorn menu. How many ways are there to cook unicorn?

Sagradafamiliar · 10/04/2019 12:18

Aww I got all excited then to read the Tripadvisor reviews but there aren't any 😭

Singlekiwimum · 10/04/2019 14:33

No, don’t ‘know’ the owner. Met her briefly when I complained about the outrageous cost for a double espresso. She so kindly dropped the price to £3. Which is £1 too much in my opinion.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 10/04/2019 14:37

Dropped TO £3 Shock

makingmammaries · 10/04/2019 15:33

@sagrada, sorry, meant Google reviews.

Actually, there is one TripAdvisor review, dated yesterday, and I’ll put money on it having been written by, or for, the owner.

Meandwinealone · 10/04/2019 17:12

The google reviews are hilarious
1 star. Then 5 star. Then 1 star, then 5 star, it’s like they are trying to counter the bad reviews by getting their mates to give a glowing one straight after.
Rookie mistake.

Also can someone please enlighten me about the peacock? Link?

FrazzledCareerWoman · 10/04/2019 20:09

I have stayed out of this since I did not want to further fuel the drama but you guys need to go and look at the Facebook reviews and the owner's responses. I'm just Shock

Seems I wasn't the only one to be shocked about the prices, bad service and half built cafe. The owner has now accused a local nanny of neglect (!) and tried to intimidate her into taking down a factual negative review. They should be closed down by trading standards. Health and safety measures are not there, safeguarding not there (posted pictures of people's children on social media) and still trying to defend herself by attacking customers / talking sugar coated lies alternately, then deleting her slanderous comments. I no longer have a shred of sympathy for this woman - she is clearly a nasty piece of work and the venue is not a safe place for children.

This is a well deserved??? PR disaster. Serves people right for not being polite.

Meandwinealone · 10/04/2019 20:53

This is 100% going into the daily fail
I can feel it. Op this is your chance to have a sad face and Boden dress and a nude pair of heels for free!

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 11/04/2019 06:56

Loving the FB comments!

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 11/04/2019 06:59

Easy enough to work out which are genuine reviews and which are the from owner's mates

glitterbiscuits · 11/04/2019 09:56

I think Tom Hiddleston has been round

( see his weird Centrum advert)

Carrots and blackberries anyone?

glitterbiscuits · 11/04/2019 10:15

From their Facebook page.

AIBU to never go here again & tell everyone I know how awful it is?
ziggiestardust · 11/04/2019 10:33

The Facebook page is a hot mess... and the google reviews are crazy... 1 followed immediately by 5 reviews, and nothing in between. The owner has done a lot of damage. I really hope this is just a hobby venture for her, and she hasn’t borrowed lots of money or anything.
