To be shocked BREXIT is going to affect cancer treatment?

cantbearsed1 · 06/03/2019 07:49

Just listening to the BBC radio news and they were interviewing an oncologist who said that because of worries about getting hold of enough isotopes straight after BREXIT, Drs have been advised by the Government to book less people into their clinics for both diagnosis and treatment.
This will mean longer waits for diagnosis and treatment from some patients. I was taken aback that such a serious medical issue is being affected.

My goodness, a couple of really aerated (or really weird) posters this afternoon.

IceRebel · 06/03/2019 19:37

Most definitely. Yet here we are, and that's the reality. Sad

StarlightLady · 06/03/2019 19:38

It was fairly obvious that there would be a huge impact on medicines.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 06/03/2019 19:40

@havingtochangeusernameagain but you can still negotiate an agreement and have it final and ready for signature on the appropriate date

TheElementsSong · 06/03/2019 20:01

If, two years ago, Remainers had said we could be three weeks off Brexit with no deal in place and no idea what, if any, deal there was going to be, Leavers would have gone ape telling us that was just ridiculous and it was all Project Fear.

Exactly right!

ForalltheSaints · 06/03/2019 20:02

Sadly I am not surprised.

surferjet · 06/03/2019 20:09

Remainers are always moaning about leavers paid to post on MN about brexit.
If that’s true - & I doubt it very much - do they think there’s paid remainers?

BeachtheButler · 06/03/2019 20:13

Yes, we all know this BUT don't worry the Brexit fairy is going to make it all OK with a wave of her wand. Oh, and of course don't beleive it because it's only remoaners "scaremongering".

JRMisOdious · 06/03/2019 20:14

FiddleFaddleDingDong

I for one am not crying about having my feelinz hurt, boo hoo. I am proud and delighted we are still on track to leave and funnily enough so are more than half the population! Go and join my welsh friend and have a good cry in the corner. "Why oh why" LOL.

You're barely keeping a lid on your rage.“

Just why are they so angry anyway? They “won” didn’t they?

IceRebel · 06/03/2019 20:16

BUT don't worry the Brexit fairy is going to make it all OK with a wave of her wand.

Damn I thought it was the pixies.

I don't know who to trust anymore, fairies, pixies, the bloody Loch Ness monster

PumpkinParent · 06/03/2019 20:18

Reading this thread has made me very sad. My four year old son needs regular intravenous infusions of a drug for a lifelong health condition and we have no idea what Brexit will do to the availability of that drug. I wonder how much more afraid, terrified even, some cancer patients are and how much my parents would regret their decision to vote leave if they knew that it might set back their grandson’s treatment (something which simply wasn’t within their contemplation at the time because of the “money back to the NHS” bus stunt). Whether or not it turns out to be correct that drug supplies will be adversely affected, people are still afraid and Brexit has exacerbated, if not caused, painful divides in our country. I know some will cheer Brexit as a good thing but nothing about this particular aspect of it seems cheery to me.

frumpety · 06/03/2019 20:24

Surfer I would do it for points on my Co-op membership card Grin

frumpety · 06/03/2019 20:27

As it is, I think most people who don't believe Brexit is going very well post out of sheer frustration at the incompetence of the UK Government and fear of the potential and real issues related to the Exit.

ahtellthee · 06/03/2019 20:28

@havingtochangeusernameagain not true. I am in CH and he signed our TA two weeks ago (because the Swiss are efficient and prepared though, nothing at all to do with British Government)

surferjet · 06/03/2019 20:28

Grin frumpety

It’s true though, some of them are forever going on about paid leavers, but they’re the ones on here 24/7 with a million links at the ready.
Hmmm

Graphista · 06/03/2019 20:34

"If, two years ago, Remainers had said we could be three weeks off Brexit with no deal in place and no idea what, if any, deal there was going to be, Leavers would have gone ape telling us that was just ridiculous and it was all Project Fear." Oh my god yes!!!

Even as a remainer I NEVER thought it would get this bad! I'm completely disgusted & livid at the govt letting it get to this!!!

You know what? In addition to living in social housing on minimal benefits for 6 months which is my usual suggestion for MP entry requirements I think we should add ability to complete logic puzzles/logic riddles too so we know that they can ya know PROBLEM SOLVE I get the distinct feeling at this stage that if we asked TM et al to solve the fox/chicken/corn riddle their brains would implode!

IceRebel - ahem as a Scot I have to say Loch Ness monster? Defo a remain voter!

PumpkinParent most of us with long term health conditions, on lifelong meds have been worried sick just how much of a fuck up this will be from as soon as the sodding ref was announced!

IceRebel · 06/03/2019 20:40

IceRebel - ahem as a Scot I have to say Loch Ness monster? Defo a remain voter!

Good to know the Loch Ness monster's position on the matter. Grin

Now if fairies, pixies and other minority groups would like to throw their hats / wings into the ring, I would be very interested to know their opinions.

mummeeee · 06/03/2019 20:48

Pumpkinparent
I hear you and am in a similar situation with IV medication for my daughter. Without it she'd have a few days before admission to hospital and then, if the hospital didn't have enough of the 'ingredients' to make the IV suspension she needs, then it'd be weeks.

My MP, CCG, NHS England & the DHSC have not given me any assurance of supply, even though I've been communicating with them with full details for months.

Graphista · 06/03/2019 20:52

"Now if fairies, pixies and other minority groups would like to throw their hats / wings into the ring, I would be very interested to know their opinions." Yep, fairly sure unicorns (Scotland's national animal) and haggis (why isn't this our national animal?) are Remainers too.

I've also been chasing for answers from Drs, nurses, pharmacists and MP for months with no joy other than platitudes!

IceRebel · 06/03/2019 20:58

Yep, fairly sure unicorns (Scotland's national animal) and haggis (why isn't this our national animal?) are Remainers too.

Oww this is interesting news, I've always suspected this was the case but never had it confirmed until now.

Also the Haggis is your national animal, it just passes most of the important duties to the Alot, and doesn't tend to show up for important discussions / debates unless it can claim expenses. Wink

pissedoffwithinconsistancies · 06/03/2019 21:50

@ChristinaMarlowe 🤪🤪🤪

SaturdayNext · 06/03/2019 21:50

I am proud and delighted we are still on track to leave and funnily enough so are more than half the population!

Evidence, JRM? After all, it was only around 25% of the population who actually voted for Brexit, and only 37% of the electorate.

BollocksToBrexit · 06/03/2019 21:56

Did you all hear about the 'brexit strike' in Paris today? Eurotunnel staff worked following post brexit protocols to show the impact. The queues of passengers trying to clear customs were 2 hours long.

PortiaCastis · 06/03/2019 22:03

Yes I read the thread where someone's DM was stuck in France for hours, hmm a taste of what's to come and I'm not seeing those sunny uplands

HateIsNotGood · 06/03/2019 22:08

Did anyone actually include the term "sunny uplands" in their referendum campaign info? I didn't read anything about that, not that I read leaflets anyway. Was it written on the sides of taxis? Goodness me, if only somone had told me I was voting for "sunny uplands" I might not have bothered voting after all.
