To be shocked BREXIT is going to affect cancer treatment?

cantbearsed1 · 06/03/2019 07:49

Just listening to the BBC radio news and they were interviewing an oncologist who said that because of worries about getting hold of enough isotopes straight after BREXIT, Drs have been advised by the Government to book less people into their clinics for both diagnosis and treatment.
This will mean longer waits for diagnosis and treatment from some patients. I was taken aback that such a serious medical issue is being affected.

FinallyHere - add Chinese formula milk which poisoned Chinese babies.
Some people would risk it, especially if it was cheap to buy. Where will the Leavers be then, will they take responsibility?

No, because they don't now.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/03/2019 17:21

Except for the strange poster who appears to be paid 9-5 to troll MN

Wait

Thats a job?

I could totally do that

ivykaty44 · 06/03/2019 17:22

Murdoch got what he wanted, and spilling the story of the jihadi bride was perfectly timed, that wasn’t a coincidence

PortiaCastis · 06/03/2019 17:23

FFS some folk are childish we won you lost ner ner ner ner ner. Yep I have lost
a) a very good friend who was bullied and told to go back where she came from and her car daubed by leaver racists
b) I've lost the security of being able to get my insulin
So yep I am a loser and all because people rode on a tide of populism and xenophobia

MamaLovesMango · 06/03/2019 17:24

I guess, trolls aside, if you’ve made a big, big fuckup, you might want to stick to your principles furiously out of pride and shame. It’s easier and less embarrassing marginally than holding your hands up. Sad.

Lweji · 06/03/2019 17:26

Thats a job?

Yes it is. No joke.

ContinuityError · 06/03/2019 17:30

Guess we can add Reuters to list of Brexit biased news sites:

uk.reuters.com/article/us-britain-eu-barley/hangover-for-uk-farmers-as-brexit-uncertainty-hits-brewing-barley-sales-to-eu-idUKKCN1P51UM

Sales of British malting barley to European Union brewers and malt producers for delivery after Brexit have come to a virtual stop because of uncertainty about future trading relations.

And perhaps we can add the British Nuclear Medicine Society to the list of Remain scaremongerers?

www.bnms.org.uk/images/stories/Brexit/red_risk.pdf

Whatever happens concerning a transitional arrangement or a no-deal “Brexit” there may well be disruption to the supply of radiopharmaceuticals. Unlike other medicines we cannot stockpile radiopharmaceuticals so any delays at new border arrangements may impact the time a delivery can be made and the activity delivered.

Due to changes in the exchange rate of the pound and increased costs of importation and customs clearance it is also likely to be an increased cost for the radiopharmaceuticals and delivery costs.

The council believe it would be prudent to ensure that these possible delivery issues and costs changes are flagged to your hospital/NHS Trust by adding these issues to your local risk register. It is our belief these should be added at the highest priority e.g. a “red risk”

Uptheapplesandpears · 06/03/2019 17:31

Murdoch got what he wanted, and spilling the story of the jihadi bride was perfectly timed, that wasn’t a coincidence

I had my suspicions about that too.

ivykaty44 · 06/03/2019 17:33

Uptheapples - I have no information on this, just my assumption

Collaborate · 06/03/2019 17:34

No one should be surprised at this. If you are, you just failed to see the blindingly obvious at the time of the referendum.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/03/2019 17:39

lweji

Well it seems very easy

Use CAPS LOCK, say people are saying stuff they aren't actually saying, be mean

Oh and lol...need to remember to lol

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/03/2019 17:40

Oh and yell ' you lost get over it' a lot

Lweji · 06/03/2019 17:41

The less easy part is maintaining the persona of several pps at the same time.

StormTreader · 06/03/2019 17:48

It's been amusing to see the Leave mindset so well parodied though:
"This might well lead to serious shortages"
"It says MIGHT, fearmongering, ROFLLOL"
"It will lead to deaths"
"Well I don't BELIEVE you!"

It's impossible to discuss anything with anyone who says less than 100% certainty is just fairytales, and 100% certainty is just wrong.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/03/2019 17:52

The less easy part is maintaining the persona of several pps at the same time

A mere trifle

The difficult bit is thinking of new names

MamaLovesMango · 06/03/2019 17:53

Funnily enough I very occasionally do have people that use my professional services who tell me they don’t believe me when I say if you don’t have XXX you will almost certainly die. Apparently they ‘don’t believe in traditional medicine and prefer to take mushrooms or some shit. They tend to die pretty soon afterwards.

Wonder if they voted Leave too...

Graphista · 06/03/2019 17:58

Op I'm repeatedly surprised that people like yourself and others I've spoken with in real life are only JUST realising how bad things are.

I had a very interesting discussion with a grocery delivery chap who had noticed the increase in what people were buying but genuinely had no clue why. Through the discussion it became apparent he'd no idea that much of our food came from the eu, even if "made in Britain" ingredients and manufacturing materials from Eu were needed, his wife is diabetic and he'd no idea of the possible issues there. It shocks me the govt aren't even informing the public properly of the issues and what we can possibly do to help matters.

I don't understand the stance of not watching the news or other current affairs tv/reading newspapers/reading online news outlets/reading related posts on SM/finding out how such an event is likely to affect you personally. Ignoring it isn't going to change it.

@missedtheboatagain (@midsomermurderess I think they're a man)

"Indeed since the 2016 referendum unemployment has decreased." Er...you do know they've changed the definition of "unemployed" several times since then yea?

"Twist it any which way you like" oh the irony

That there HAS been job losses due to companies closing or moving operations as a direct result of brexit?

You think the Irish border issue is silly?!!! Wow!

"Don’t believe for a moment Brexit is for the benefit of the country. It’s about the wealthy elite profiteering from economic turmoil." THIS! Proven by the actions of the likes of JRM moving money etc

"We need to bring in a law to protect us from this abuse" wow! I hope that's sarcasm. Because the rise in hate crimes as a result of brexit is also a major issue.

"Leavers say they voted for change. But not that change! Or that one! Or that one! etc..." Yep I'm very much noticing the leavers I know in real life and even a few on here (with some notable exceptions) getting quieter and quieter the more the fuck ups become apparent. A few of the leavers I know are diabetics or otherwise chronically ill, their family members are starting to be affected by things like job losses and yet they seem weirdly surprised by some of the things that have happened. As if they didn't think any of the negative stuff would affect THEM.

"Didn't leave voters vote to "take back control " of our borders?

This is what you voted for.

Own it." Exactly!

Bejam would you seriously be happy to eat food, let alone use medicines including radioactive treatments that haven't been subjected to ANY regulations and controls?! You think we should just allow completely unregulated movement of such things? You think that would be safe? Of course not! Besides isn't that what leavers voted for? MORE control at borders not less than we currently have. US controlling it rather than the EU? Which is WHY there'd be longer time needed at borders. What on earth did you think that would actually mean? No it's not magical fucking pixies would be doing it, it would be our govt! (Though are you also aware we don't have nearly enough trained staff to do this? And the govt haven't done anything about that? I have friends who work in this area, they've been stockpiling for ages!)

"What I don't understand is why people are saying that imports into the UK will be held up. Any level of inspection will be down to the UK government" those last 7 words - that's why! We don't have the people or infrastructure in place to manage this at the rate it currently happens and this govt have basically done nothing to remedy or protect against that.

"What do you mean "No"? DON'T YOU DARE SAY NO TO ME, DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?"" This is VERY much the attitude of almost all the leavers I know. "We're Great Britain they HAVE to trade with us" er...actually no they don't! "We're Great Britain they won't leave us struggling" wtf makes you think ANY other country thinks we're so fucking special?! Weirdly I see this particularly in younger leavers who don't even remember us ever remotely being seen or treated this way!

"We’re the 5th biggest economy in the world. " and you think this has NOTHING to do with being in the eu? Look at the countries with the best economies, they're either big countries or they're part of trade blocs! We are a SMALL country with no usp.

"Even if we slip to 7th or 8th we’re still one of the biggest economies in the world." And what do you think the consequences of THAT will be for real poor people in the uk? Given we've ALREADY got huge increases in homelessness, thousands using food banks, poverty diseases recurring and rising, thousands dying/died as a result of austerity policies, increased violent crime due to lack of police funding, fire stations closed?

"Leavers certainly have a lot of faith in the benevolence of our Tory govt. I'd really love to know why, despite all of the evidence austerity has provided to the contrary." Damn straight!

"Any organisation which would stand back and say ‘rules’ while watching people die is not a good organisation." That pretty much describes our current Tory govt! Just ask anyone who's disabled and unable to work as a result.

Plus austerity doesn't work! Numerous economists have argued and shown this but our govt continues to run our country into the ground in the erroneous hope that eventually - despite all evidence to the contrary - that it will!

"You’re prepared to hold cancer patients lives hostage just for your own political gain." Shocking lack if a sense of irony here!

"Nope nope nope.

Leave voters did this, not remainers." Exactly

"Remainers absolutely loathe the working classes" er what?!! Remainer here, working class! Live in a remain area - almost totally working class deprived area.

"When Mogg, Johnson and Farage are your cheerleaders you really can't claim to be the downtrodden oppressed." How the FUCK are they working class? They don't give a shit about the working class!

"Are leavers going to be in Calais enforcing a hard border and insisting that the picture on a fag packet is checked?" No in DOVER our customs officers will be acting on LEAVERS instructions to "take control of our borders"

"It would be absolutely laughable if it weren't so tragic." And dragging the rest of us with them!!

"Look, have you seen what’s going on in Venezuela? Maduro has closed the borders. He is stopping aid, food and medicine, from coming in. He has done it within Venezuela’s legal system. Nobody is standing up saying how amazing he is for enforcing the rules. The entire world is up in arms about it. But apparently if the EU do the same to the UK, that is all fine and dandy." Its NOT the Eu doing it! It's the uk that's the key point you're massively missing! The eu haven't changed a thing!

"The UK will not be enforcing a hard border stopping EU goods entering" says who?!

Genuinely incredible the way leavers are attributing brexit caused problems to Remainers.

PestyMachtubernahme · 06/03/2019 18:07

The EU have offered to send food to our food banks if the going gets tough.

We have said no and decided they are threatening us.
www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1088265/Brexit-latest-news-eu-food-aid-no-deal-brexit-eu-news

The EU can read English, they have read the UN report on child poverty in the UK. They are offering humanitarian aid to our most vulnerable. They have probably also read about the 120,000 extra deaths due to austerity.

DioneTheDiabolist · 06/03/2019 18:08

The bastards!

MamaLovesMango · 06/03/2019 18:14

Utter evil cunts them EU bullies Hmm

PrawnOfCreation · 06/03/2019 18:17

This is why I've been putting some by, into my own "foodbank" in the pantry. Not fancy, but as the Brexit Preppers will say, I'd rather be wrong than hungry.

PiebaldHamster · 06/03/2019 18:20

I've read it all now. People who really think the Irish border issue is 'silly'. Mind.blown.

Great post, Graphista.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 06/03/2019 18:26

Remember Fox said in 2017 that he'd have all those 40 FTAs rolled over ready for Brexit Day

I am not sure how he's done any of them, given that we're not allowed to sign trade deals until we have left the EU.

SaturdayNext · 06/03/2019 19:04

If, two years ago, Remainers had said we could be three weeks off Brexit with no deal in place and no idea what, if any, deal there was going to be, Leavers would have gone ape telling us that was just ridiculous and it was all Project Fear.
