Seeing as this worry comes up so many times on MN and in wider life, I feel obliged to post this and remind everyone that MMR has not link to autism whatsoever, as yet another HUGE study has found.

Thanks.

I thought AIDs denialism had died out by now. Sad to see I was wrong.

It's not just a harmless crackpot theory. It kills people.

HIVpos Star

bruffin · 08/03/2019 17:05

The autobiography of Elizabeth Glaser , wife of Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky and Hutch) is heartbreaking.
She contacted HIV/AIDs in 1981 through a blood transfusion at after the birth of her daughter Ariel who contracted HIV/AIDs from her mothers breastmilk
Ariel Glaser became ill in 1984 and was discovered to have AIDs . The famiky was tested and Elizabeth and their son born in 1984 were both also HIV+. AZT was approved in 1987 but not for paediatrics. The Glaser family fought for their daughter to be treated with AZT but it was too late and she died in 1988. Elizabeth died in 1994.

Thankfully son Jake inherited the CCR5 gene from his father which helped restrict how HIV enters the CD4 cells and is healthy to this day with medication.

Hivpos · 08/03/2019 17:23

Oh wow bruffin thank you I never knew that - I used to watch Starsky and Hutch.

I think it is actually the lack of the CCR5 gene that protects a small number of people from getting HIV - or the Delta 32 mutation to it that which prevents the virus from invading the T cells. I can only go so far with science before it loses me 🤓 🤯

Thankfully blood screening is so much better nowadays.

bruffin · 08/03/2019 17:43

HIVpos

Paul Glaser was never HIV+ because of the gene but because Jake caught it in utero he was affected

Lweji · 08/03/2019 18:59

Yes, it's a variant of the gene that is protective. The gene in its usual form opens the door to HIV.

Lweji · 08/03/2019 19:00

Or rather... The protein. 😊

AwakeAfterMidnight · 08/03/2019 21:08

Well said HIVpos - there is no point in trying to reason with some people.

This is one of the times that I wish there was a "Hide Poster" function.

Lweji · 09/03/2019 08:51

I like when they end up rattled because their usual tactics aren't working.

sashh · 09/03/2019 13:31

Well Cath I have just watched your documentary. The reporter doesn't seem to understand what a syndrome is, if he did then, well he would have no film.

MNdogmaistoneverquestion · 10/03/2019 04:11

@Cath I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your posts. From an outsiders perspective and from the perspective of a mother who chose to vaccinate (due to media propelled propaganda, as I can honestly say that I chose to ignore all other views because I was told vaccinating is unquestionably the best way to protect your baby) I really respect your bravery. You are always very respectful and concise, you refrain from using appeals to emotion and ad hominems and despite all of the abuse, projection and insecurities that are thrown at you, you persevere.

People like you are so important, hopefully a lot of these women will come to realise that in the near future. Look at women like Sharron Davies and Martina Navratilova who despite all the abuse and vitriol and appeals to authority they've received recently, are not staying silent. Dissent is crucial, questions are ALWAYS necessary. Keep being wonderful!

Also, as someone who has been an asthma sufferer, I DID NOT KNOW that there was a link to dehydration. There is nothing wrong with sharing information, it is up to the individual to do the relevant research, and apply relevant changes to their own lives to come to their own decisions. That cannot happen if they're only ever exposed to 'one side'. Science has never been about one true and infallible conclusion to any one issue, if it was, lobotomies would still be a routine procedure on offer at local hospitals to anyone displaying signs of depression.

bruffin · 10/03/2019 09:05

Cath 8s the very antithesis of Martina Navratalova and Sharon Davies. They are actually on the side of science over "fluffy feelings"
She is also incapable of telling the difference between "good" and "bad" research.

EwItsAHooman · 10/03/2019 09:06

People like you are so important, hopefully a lot of these women will come to realise that in the near future.

People peddling dangerous lies are not important or admirable.

AwakeAfterMidnight · 10/03/2019 10:30

@MNdogmaistoneverquestion i would like to assure you the that I will never have a the need for a person like Cath.

Living with a person with a compromised immune system has made me more aware of this than ever.

Cathmidston · 10/03/2019 10:37

@MNdogmaistoneverquestion ahhh thank you Flowers

EwItsAHooman · 10/03/2019 11:29

Keep being wonderful!

Nice to see your mum is on MN, Cath Grin

Lweji · 10/03/2019 11:42

It's just a good thing my own boy got all his tetanus shots. Me too.

Treatment of unvaccinated Oregon boy with tetanus cost nearly $1m, CDC says
"Parents of six-year-old turned down second dose of vaccine"
"Report counts cost not including air ambulance and rehab"

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/mar/09/cdc-treatment-cost-tetanus-unvaccinated-oregon-boy

PS - Any arts and crafts going this weekend? Anyone got anything useful done out of old socks yet? I hear that making puppets is quite popular. Personally, I use them for dust cleaning.

Cathmidston · 10/03/2019 12:04

Does being vaccinated with the tetanus vaccine prevent tetanus infection? A few facts:

Tetanus spores are everywhere. In dust, in dirt, everywhere.
In most circumstances, tetanus spores are not only harmless, they are helpful. It was learned in the 1920’s that ingestion of tetanus spores creates natural immunity that is strain specific. Through everyday activity, you ingest tetanus spores and thereby develop natural immunity to the strains of tetanus in your local environment.
Tetanus is “anaerobic” — it is inert in the presence of oxygen. Tetanus is only a problem if it gets deep into certain types of wounds in the right conditions. Irritating and provoking substances such as dirt or shards of glass or wood must be present that prevent the wound from quickly healing and allow it to fester. Wounds that bleed, that are properly cleansed, that are soaked, and other various methods of proper treatment do not create an environment for tetanus spores to become toxic.
Natural immunity can be overwhelmed by extreme wounds, such as soldiers experience in war. Soldiers may also be wounded in foreign lands before they have had the chance to develop natural immunity through ingestion of the local strains of tetanus.
Vaccination creates one type of antibody in the blood called “antitoxin” that differs from the “agglutinin” type of antibodies formed by ingestion. Antitoxin antibodies are in the serum (blood) and they can’t neutralize tetanus toxin unless the toxin gets to the blood. If the toxin gets to the nerve endings first, such as what happens in deep dirty puncture wounds, or wounds that are untended such as during battle, the nerves transport the toxin to the brain, no matter how high the vaccine-induced serum antibody level.
If tetanus is diagnosed (based on symptoms) tetanus immune globulin (which is the antitoxin in vaccines but delivered directly to the wound) may be given, but just like the antitoxin antibodies in your serum (if you were vaccinated), the globulin can neutralize only toxin that hasn’t yet bonded to nerve tissue.
One situation does occur in which serum antitoxin levels actually do have the ability to prevent infection and that is neonatal infection during or shortly after childbirth. The umbilical cord has no nerve endings, so antitoxin in the blood will bind with tetanus toxin and thus be neutralized. The presence of maternal and neonatal serum antitoxin is not a guarantee against infection, however. Studies have shown infections can still happen. Neonatal infection is completely avoidable with sterile birthing conditions that keep the umbilical cord clean. A clean birthing environment reduces risk of neonatal infection to zero. The safety of vaccination during pregnancy has not been established. Longterm impacts of the aluminum adjuvants on the developing fetus are unknown.

Cathmidston · 10/03/2019 12:12

And so anyone who agrees with someone with an opinion against vaccines is a sock puppet Hmm .... that’s hilarious

Lweji · 10/03/2019 12:20

It's sad, really

HIVpos · 10/03/2019 12:38

Lweji - interesting stuff in that article you linked - did not know the damage that tetanus can cause - and the fact it is still doing so much damage when unvaccinated.

Out of interest - although recommended, why don't we get 10 yearly jabs against tetanus? I had one a while back after doing a bit of reading and as a keen gardener I questioned if I should have one and my GP agreed I should.

FWIW I think everyone would agree that staying hydrated is pure common sense and a lot of everyday things like headaches, muscle weakness at the gym etc can be solved with drinking more fluid than pills.

Cath - still no debate with you - I'll just leave this here www.skepticalraptor.com/skepticalraptorblog.php/appeal-to-false-authority-who-is-tetyana-obukhanych/

HIVpos · 10/03/2019 12:46

*rather than taking pills

Cathmidston · 10/03/2019 12:54

Interesting how most pro vaccine articles use such continually emotive, deriding and inflammatory language

As for your assertion that I must not really believe what I’m saying as I wouldn’t actually ‘tell you to stop using your medication’ ... sorry but I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t on that one. I merely stated what I would do.

As for the so called ‘‘non progressors’ …common to all these positive people is the fact that they have rejected AIDS medications from the start or only took them for a short time. Many of them tested positive more than 2 decades ago.
The AIDS establishment now calls these individuals who reject AIDS medications as ‘elite controllers’ as if they are somehow super human and that 2% of AIDS patients may be in this category ..but the reality is that only a global study (which is missing) would be able to determine the exact number of HIV+ people remaining healthy without taking AIDS drugs ….the number of ‘these “elite controllers’ is probably much higher. Additonally the vast majority of so called HIV+ are long term survivors… As Peter Duesberg states “worldwide they number many many millions”

bruffin · 10/03/2019 13:26

And antivax articles dont use emotive language? your delusional.

Cathmidston · 10/03/2019 14:04

The ones I read don’t ..then again I tend to read books on the subject
