AIBU to ask family to bring their own food?

I have family visiting for Easter. I know they have been "forward purchasing" in case of shortages caused by any no-deal Brexit, as have I. Would I be unreasonable to ask then to bring their own food to avoid depleting my store? The children will eat up all my pasta and pesto in next to no time. And I don't want to waste freezer space on fish fingers, which I never eat.

A little stash of biscuits is a good idea, anxiousmother.

It certainly is. This is my biscuit stash. I did have more kitkats but erm... I had needs Blush

There’s a comedian who says she has a Brexit stash of things she doesn’t much like, to prevent her eating them! I think it might be Lucy Porter, heard on the News Quiz perhaps.

Under her bed if I remember correctly.

Biscuit stash: £1.32p worth of bourbon biscuits. £3.50 worth of party rings, £2.80 of chocolate chip cookies, £2 mixed box of biscuits, £0.90 of chocolate digestives. £0.45 oaties or there abouts.

Might get some more bourbons in for the bin fairy as they will go through a letterbox.

borntobequiet · 02/03/2019 15:56

? bin fairy? letterbox?

Hang on, have I understood this correctly?! They are going to vote next week to reject the deal and also reject no deal Hmm
So what is left? Extend the deadline so that in a couple of months they can vote again on the deal they have already rejected twice and also reject no deal again? And we supposedly want to give back more power to these people Grin

SparklySneakers · 02/03/2019 16:53

Yep think that's put sums it up Sad

doIreallyneedto · 02/03/2019 17:00

@Captaindobbin - yes, that's it in a nutshell.

IDoN0tCare · 02/03/2019 17:24

FFS! It’s like when politicians in NI were having talks to see if they should have talks!

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/03/2019 17:29

Bin fairy=neighbour who puts out the bin. Letterbox= hole in door for posting letters and biscuits through.

borntobequiet · 02/03/2019 17:55

Oh OK I understand. I was trying to think what bin fairy might be autocorrect for. Or if it was some sort of deodorising spray...

He gives the children Easter eggs as well and I suspect he is the source of random packs of crisps on the mat.

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/03/2019 17:58

I am thinking that the odd tin of carrots might find its way to him as well if necessary.

Belenus · 02/03/2019 18:32

I have no biscuit stash because it just wouldn't last. I have the ingredients for biscuits. There's no chocolate stash either, just cocoa.

borntobequiet · 03/03/2019 09:33

Goodness me.

www.emergencyfoodstorage.co.uk/products/brexit-box

£295!!!

ArmchairTraveller · 03/03/2019 10:01

That looks revolting, and I speak as someone with experience of army compound rations, camping with what I could carry and offshore sailing with limited equipment and stores.
Keep on with the olives and pesto!

ArmchairTraveller · 03/03/2019 10:02

Compo, not compound.

Belenus · 03/03/2019 10:32

I thought we were meant to survive post-Brexit by selling jam and biscuits? Instead, someone's profiting by making emergency rations. Quite tempted to contact them to ask if there's a vegetarian version.

Not that I'd buy it. Quite happy with my various lentils, beans and tinned veg. Other than having the fresh version of the veg normally, it's what I often eat anyway.

doIreallyneedto · 03/03/2019 16:14

It's all a bit blitzspirit isn't it? There's always someone willing to exploit the gullible/vulnerable, just like the black marketeers did during the war.

Caveat - I think stockpiling is sensible but those kits are unnecessary and exploitative.

bellinisurge · 03/03/2019 17:26

Please don't anybody bother with those silly boxes. Do it yourself. Bespoke. Better quality. Cheaper.

SparklySneakers · 03/03/2019 17:29

I was so angry when I saw those boxes. I've spent nowhere near that and have toiletries and household goods too for a family of 4 and it's all stuff we use regularly and like. I've probably spent £100 extra in total over the past few weeks and have plenty in now. Profiteering from vulnerable people makes me Angry No one wants dehydrated ration packs unless it really is Armageddon and the only option.

Sweetpea55 · 03/03/2019 18:05

Buy more then you won't run out

borntobequiet · 03/03/2019 18:37

Thanks, Sweetpea. My worry is that by Easter the shops will have run out and there won’t be more to buy!

My DD's birthday is not long after Brexit day. I have made sure I sorted all that stuff out in advance.
