AIBU to ask family to bring their own food?

I have family visiting for Easter. I know they have been "forward purchasing" in case of shortages caused by any no-deal Brexit, as have I. Would I be unreasonable to ask then to bring their own food to avoid depleting my store? The children will eat up all my pasta and pesto in next to no time. And I don't want to waste freezer space on fish fingers, which I never eat.

It would take a bigger disaster than Brexit to see us starve

If we know it's going to be a disaster, of whatever proportion, why are we doing it?

Why would you use your stock pile of things which are not yet unavailable?

It's now March 1. Brexit is currently scheduled for March 29. Easter is 19-22 April. If we crash out with no deal, there is a good chance the OP will have to start on her stockpile between the end of March and Easter, because that's the precise point at which things will start to become unavailable.

Clairaloulou · 01/03/2019 21:08

@IDoN0tCare considering the majority of remainers call leavers ignorant idiots, your comment is very one sided.

IDoN0tCare · 01/03/2019 21:12

Clairaloulou, I’m referring to those that are coming on here to mock people who are building up a larder. Are saying that ALL of those posters are leavers?

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 01/03/2019 21:15

It’s like Groundhog Day on here

SinkGirl · 01/03/2019 21:17

And if this thread makes it to the DM, supermarket shelves will be empty accross the entire UK by midnight.

Well wouldn’t that be great? Supermarkets can replenish stocks very quickly since there’s no customs issues, and there’ll be more people who don’t have to get into a scrum if there is a problem when Brexit happens. Win win!

Clairaloulou · 01/03/2019 21:51

@IDoN0tCare I didn't think any remainers would disagree with stockpiling, what with Armageddon fast approaching 😁

LimeKiwi · 01/03/2019 21:57

I voted Remain but I do find the level of panic and stockpiling baffling!

Clairaloulou · 01/03/2019 21:59

@LimeKiwi oh good I'm having lots of fun are you? Wind them up and off they go weeeeeee!

SparklySneakers · 01/03/2019 22:01

I haven't seen any panic. Concern, worry, especially about essential medication, and sensible extra purchases as a buffer if the shit hits the fan, yes. But not panic.

bellinisurge · 01/03/2019 22:01

Hi. Skin too thick to be wound up. Getting a bit bored, though.

SparklySneakers · 01/03/2019 22:03

You're not winding up the sensible of us at all. Most of us will be worried that if there are problems then you won't be prepared. I don't know if any prepper who won't be glad if everything goes smoothly because many are worried about friends or family who are vulnerable for whatever reason, and reliant on medication.

bellinisurge · 01/03/2019 22:09

Yep, never wanted to be more wrong in my entire long life. Would love to have egg on my face. Me being embarrassed is a small price to pay for an uneventful , well managed Brexit and a prosperous future.

SparklySneakers · 01/03/2019 22:12

Exactly Bellini. It saddens me that some posters are ridiculing the OP for being concerned and wasn't afraid to raise the issue on Aibu despite its reputation. The upshot is that many lurkers will now have taken on board what we have been saying and will hopefully make sure they and their families have a buffer too.

Bluntness100 · 01/03/2019 22:27

Gosh anyone else just wanting to fast forward two weeks when at the latest no deal officially comes off the table to stop all this?

SparklySneakers · 01/03/2019 22:30

Then what happens @Bluntness100 ? WA? Extension? Revoke? You seem to know so it would be nice if you told us.

Bluntness100 · 01/03/2019 22:34

Jesus, it's alll over the news, how can you not know.

12 March vote for her deal or not

Ifnot

13 March vote to reject no deal

If rejected

14 March vote to extend.

No deal is rejected already. Parliament will not permit it.

So it's her deal or extend.

Seriously how can people not know this shit.

SparklySneakers · 01/03/2019 22:39

That doesn't say that no deal is off the table does it. That's your interpretation. I am well aware of what's going on as follow the news and the westminsterenders threads on here. Nothing is certain at the moment otherwise we wouldn't all be wondering what exactly is going to happen. But you seem to know best.

Come and join us @Bluntness100 and share your knowledge. It will put a lot of minds at rest.

borntobequiet · 01/03/2019 22:40

No deal is still the default.
This Parliament is perfectly capable of screwing up anything.

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 01/03/2019 22:41

It's not my interpretation, thr overwhemling majority of MPs have confirmed they will stop it. It's factual.

Do you not read up on it, watch the news? Watch parliament?

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 01/03/2019 22:50

Bluntness100. I don’t think posters on these threads have time to watch the news as they spend all day and night incessantly posting about Brexit and prepping, they probably have no other life. It just goes on and on and on...

SparklySneakers · 01/03/2019 22:53

So what do you think will happen when if no deal is rejected? Bluntness100

OrangeSunsets · 01/03/2019 22:54

Oh shit! I’m a Brit living in the Middle East and paying through the nose for imports. I’m visiting family for 2 weeks in the uk at the end of March. Should I take a case load of over priced stuff with me? I usually take an empty case to stock up in the uk!!!!

missyfafa · 01/03/2019 22:57

People stockpiling food for no reason/panic buying will definitely cause shortages even if brexit doesn’t. Wink
