Have any of you actually seen it for yourself? Or is it an internet hoax?

Filbert7

That's amazing when every single news outlet is not saying it never happened and was a massive hoax. How did that happen? Was youtube hacked? Hmm

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 02/03/2019 07:55

I suspect @Filbert7 is being sarcastic since bonsai kittens are also a hoax.Grin

Billballbaggins · 02/03/2019 08:00

Poor bonsai kitten 😫😫

Not going to lie I remember the bonsai kitten thing and I actually did fall for it and believe it. I was about 11/12 years old though so I think I can be forgiven though Grin

Triglesoffy · 02/03/2019 08:04

I told my son that if it ever pops up - the real Video, not the troll copy cats - he is to pause YouTube, get another device to record the video and then we’ll sell it to the Daily Mail and make our fortune. He was Hmm whatever, mum.

stopitandtidyupp · 02/03/2019 08:39

Its amazing how many people lie. It really is.

Filbert7 · 02/03/2019 19:10

Yes it's easy to call other people liars.

Meanwhile, in the real world, some of us are having to help our friends scrape chunks of lovingly-moulded kittens out of jars because of statues that hacked the youtubes.

I'm surprised the talk of it has reached as far down as year 1 in my kids' school (it's an infant school so tends to be sheltered from the worst of the internet nonsense as a general rule). DD1 came home talking about how one of the boys in the nurture group she goes into was saying he'd seen this telling him to do dares on youtube and then another lad said the same. Both kids are fairly laxly parented and are allowed pretty much unmonitored access to youtube - but now it's basically becoming a bit of a mark of playground pride to say that you've seen this - almost like you've been picked by the internet making it up gods bragging rights.

We just discussed how some very sad people think it's funny to sit at home and think they've given children on the internet bad dreams, then we looked at the full scale sculpture photo and agreed it looked completely hilarious... and DD2 pootled off for five minutes to see if she could pull a funnier face than it. Mine only ever go on youtube when I'm there to supervise very closely - I'm laid back about screentime generally - but the rules with the internet are only when an adult is in the room and you don't go on youtube unsupervised at all - because basically it's full of a hell of a lot of very boring videos of someone's cats as I tell the kids. Most kids in DD1's social circle though seem to be allowed totally free run of youtube in both kids and adult variations. I'm just fucked if I'm going to listen to people open bloody Hatchimals eggs all day which would be DD1's youtube viewing of choice!

I did have a chat with the head basically so she was aware of the context the kids discussing it was taking within the school (funnily she could have guessed the personalities involved claiming they've seen it - all of whom are known for having a bit of a tendency toward tall tales at the best of times) - they've upped their web filtering higher and sent out a quick "this is nonsense but please keep an eye on what your kids are on on the internet" parental reminder.

My camera roll is full of memes Grin

I can give you money to buy another one soon, I'm chatting with a Nigerian prince who's going to send my £50 million for safe keeping. I just need to send him my bank details and a photocopy of my passport.

Frequency · 03/03/2019 00:10

I'd help with the kitten but unfortunately I didn't like and share a picture of a girl who committed suicide because no-one liked her Facebook post and didn't tag ten friends within ten minutes so now I'm dead.

Lovingbenidorm · 03/03/2019 00:25

It’s a hoax, but a sick dangerous one
Apparently it pops up in the middle of Peppa Pig ffs
Vigilance at all times parents!

Filbert7 · 03/03/2019 02:38

@Lovingbenidorm

Until the hoax hit the news, it wasn't in any peppa pig videos. However, now that the media, police and concerned parents have made a bit of a circus, people have made peppa pig videos with Momo in (although they are clearly titled as such and don't appear on YouTube Kids).

SpamChaudFroid · 03/03/2019 08:34

I wonder if that sculpture will command a higher price tag after all the lovely free publicity. Most fortunate for the sculptor and special effects company who made it. Hmm

pinkstripeycat · 03/03/2019 08:40

It’s been on the BBC news that they’ve been discussing it in parliament. I have received an email from Epic games saying they are aware that some Fornight players have experienced intervention by Momo whilst playing and Epic have blocked the hack as soon as they are aware if it and they are trying to find a way to block further instances but as each new time it appears it is via a new entry this is very difficult to do and please bare with them etc

PumpkinJuk · 03/03/2019 08:47

Can you post the email?

SpamChaudFroid · 03/03/2019 09:00

Yeah, why in 13 pages of folk saying they've seen proof has nobody posted any proof at all? Just the usual apocryphal shit about "happened to MIL's hairdresser's dog's friend who he sometimes chases in the park, and it RUINED him."

ChesterGreySideboard · 03/03/2019 09:03

Yeah, why in 13 pages of folk saying they've seen proof has nobody posted any proof at all?

No one has said that they have seen it. It’s always been their friends kid, a child in year 6, their child but it had gone by the time they got in the room.

GoFiguire · 03/03/2019 09:04

It’s happened!!! I’ve got a screenshot!!! It is very disturbing though.

GoFiguire · 03/03/2019 09:05

I hope I won’t upset too many people if I post the screenshot

ChesterGreySideboard · 03/03/2019 09:06

Well given that we are all adults and all know it is just a sculpture I don’t expect so.

GoFiguire · 03/03/2019 09:08

It isn’t a sculpture

GoFiguire · 03/03/2019 09:09

I had to cover my eyes

SpamChaudFroid · 03/03/2019 09:22

Kind of the point I was making Chester.

SpamChaudFroid · 03/03/2019 09:25

And I was hoping that @pinkstripeycat might care to share their "proof".

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 03/03/2019 09:34

@GoFiguire go ahead,post away.
