I would never actually do this of course but since being able to drive, I've made efforts to be a patient, understandable driver as I remember how nerve-wracking it could be to be a learner etc but there are some things people do on the road that just irritate me so much!!!

The main one I'm talking about is when pulling up to a junction, those who are turning right stay smack bang in the middle of the road and don't allow any room for a car turning left to position themselves at the junction!!

I've noticed this a few times at a junction near to where I live. If you're turning left it's usually quite quiet and plenty of opportunities to go but if you're turning right there can be a lot of cars coming. This means the person sat waiting to go right is there for a while and the poor person wanting to go left could've just gone if only the first car had positioned themselves correctly!!! Sorry if I'm not making any sense LOL. Of course if someone's car is too big to allow for another car to pass by the side of it or there isn't enough room at the junction that's different!

What are your guys driving/parking gripes other than the usual middle lane hoggers?!

I'm pretty sure the highway code actually tells you to slow down if someone is tailgating you as this encourages them to pass you.

The Highway Code tells you to leave more space between you and the car in front. That either allows the idiot behind to overtake and take the space in front, or gives you more stopping distance if the car in front stops, so that you can brake more slowly giving the idiot behind a better chance of stopping too!

VelvetPineapple · 27/02/2019 09:19

YABU OP. I hate when I’m turning right and impatient drivers squash in to my left. I need to see both directions and you’re blocking my view so I can’t pull out till you’ve gone. It’s a single lane road - wait your turn! If you’re in such a rush you should have left earlier.

Kazzyhoward · 27/02/2019 09:22

4. Smug arse holes who clearly don't know the Highway Code but think they are the moral guardians of the highway by doing things like straddling white lines to prevent people from going down the OPEN right hand carriage way 800m before the road merges

Twattish lorry drivers often do that. Only last week in our town's one way system, there was stationery traffic due to roadworks where one of the two lanes was closed. There was this huge lorry where the driver took it upon himself to straddle the centre white line blocking both lanes right from the first sign which was about 1/4 mile away. By doing that the idiot was blocking all the traffic that was wanting to take any of the 3 right hand turns off the one way system before it went into single lane. What an absolute tosser!

HereBeFuckery · 27/02/2019 09:54

@elasticfantastic I'm not talking about normal overtaking. I'm talking about speeding up, to above the limit, to overtake ONLY because that lane is ending. I'm talking about Audi drivers cars who pull out INTO the lane that's coming to an end and then go over the limit to overtake because the lane is ending. It's FOMO driving for cunts

HereBeFuckery · 27/02/2019 09:58

@CallMeSirShotsFired nope, I'm not saying I'm stationary. In fact I'm driving in either the inside lane or the overtaking lanes, depending on traffic, often at the speed limit.
What I mean is when cars BMW tiny prick drivers pull out into that lane WHEN it's been signposted as coming to an end, and go over the limit to use the lane to 'get to the front of the queue for the conference for wankers' before it ends. They then pull back in sharply because they were/are speeding. I've had to brake many many many times for these fuckwits. It's sad and pathetic.

Either we were on the same road @Kazzyhoward or it's deja vu!

Giant lorries who decide to overtake when driving uphill on the motorway. It takes them for ever to make the manoeuvre and slows everybody down.

TheRugbyValkyrie · 27/02/2019 10:47

People (mostly women) who don't use rear view mirrors on dual carriageways or motorways, so poorly along in the outside lane with no regard for traffic behind them. Move over and let us overtake.
People (again mostly women and old people) who sit at junctions waiting for a completely clear road because they cannot judge speed and distance.
Men who drive in the middle of rural roads because the hedges might touch their precious!
People who park with nearly a car width away from the next car.
People who tailgate, especially when my kids are in the car.
People who "don't see" road signs, especially the old fart who drove into my car when he should have obeyed the stop sign.

GruciusMalfoy · 27/02/2019 11:10

Oh bloody hell, people driving over the middle line drive me nuts. There's a road near me that's a 60 limit. But in reality you can't take it much above 40 because it's so winding. The amount of people who go too fast and cut the corners is astonishing. (And scary)

Kazzyhoward · 27/02/2019 12:07

People who "don't see" road signs

Definitely a lost art. Once people have passed their tests, it seems that road signs and road markings become invisible. They're put there for a reason!!

The sheer number of people who drive the wrong way down one way roads is crazy. That's despite them having the no entry signs and no left/right turn signs either side of the one way road on the main road.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/02/2019 14:07

People who block keep clear junctions. Especially on the exit from my road where I need to turn right onto a fast moving 4 lane road which is hard enough at the best of times.

People who think amber means speed up to get through the lights as they turn red when I'm waiting to turn right in a box junction on a narrow but very busy road. Every day. Often 2-3 cars come through on red, leaving cars turning right trying to inch past pedestrians who have started to cross.

Frickssake · 27/02/2019 14:30

Cyclists with no lights. Off roaders ( quad bikes or scrambler bikes ) who have no number plates or helmets and do wheelies in the middle of the road.
Non indicators.
This may spark outrage / debate but we of the older generation should not be on the road! I'm.talking about you. The older gentleman who pulled out of a side road then told me , 'my wife told me it was clear!!!).
And at the end of a road near me there is a dual carriageway where in the middle there are give way signs painted on the road. But, people ignore these and, unfortunately, recently there was a fatal crash as people dither or just go for it no matter which road you are on.
Ooh and the lorry driver who pulled out on me with no indicators. Yeah thanks.

Frickssake · 27/02/2019 14:31

( how did 'some' autocorrect to 'we'??!!!!)

DrCoconut · 28/02/2019 09:58

People round here park way too close to junctions. It obstructs the view of the road and is hazardous.

MulticolourMophead · 01/03/2019 10:04

People who "don't see" road signs

I mostly agree with this, except for those places where there are too many signs, making it hard to spot what you need to see.

Toomuchgoingon · 02/03/2019 21:36

Hamburger style roundabout so if going through the middle, straight on only. But oh no, people regularly turn right in the middle so brake and cause everyone else to have to brake just as you should be getting faster. In the run up to the roundabout, left hand lane usually much slower than the right so hits who can't be bothered to wait, take the right hand lane and cut in at the last minute and ensure that everyone in the right is blocked. Grrrrrrrr

Biancadelrioisback · 02/03/2019 22:03

There is a roundabout near me and 2 exits/entrances are used way less than the other 2. I however always enter from one of these.

For example, 12 o'clock and 3 oclock are the most popular, followed by 9oclock and lastly, 6oclock. I approach from 9oclock and cars from 12 will completely ignore me/not even look. I've had to slam my breaks on so many times from them just pulling out. And Cars who do approach from 6 always seem to think they have to give way to everyone which is annoying. If I'm approaching from 9 they will sit and wait for me to pull out but obviously I wait for them which causes a standoff. When I do think "fuck it" and start pulling out, they clearly decide that they too have to move and pull out so I once again slam my breaks on....

emilybrontescorsett · 02/03/2019 22:26

I agree that a lots of roads are very poorly signposted.
Road signs should be positioned so that drivers have sufficient time to get in the correct lane. I've driven in the left hand lane of two only to realise at the last minute that I need to be in the right hand lane in order to go straight ahead.
