I would never actually do this of course but since being able to drive, I've made efforts to be a patient, understandable driver as I remember how nerve-wracking it could be to be a learner etc but there are some things people do on the road that just irritate me so much!!!

The main one I'm talking about is when pulling up to a junction, those who are turning right stay smack bang in the middle of the road and don't allow any room for a car turning left to position themselves at the junction!!

I've noticed this a few times at a junction near to where I live. If you're turning left it's usually quite quiet and plenty of opportunities to go but if you're turning right there can be a lot of cars coming. This means the person sat waiting to go right is there for a while and the poor person wanting to go left could've just gone if only the first car had positioned themselves correctly!!! Sorry if I'm not making any sense LOL. Of course if someone's car is too big to allow for another car to pass by the side of it or there isn't enough room at the junction that's different!

What are your guys driving/parking gripes other than the usual middle lane hoggers?!

i do hate badly designed junctions like that there should be a an addiotnal sign higher up

i forgot about the time i was looking for a space in a a car park and a car races up behind beeps then overtakes at at least 30-all to get a space theres people walking round it was so dangerous

People who slow down not using their brakes

Don't get this one, I always take my foot off the gas to slow down. It's better driving than slamming your brakes on all the time.

You need to chill OP. I dont think thats worth getting the rage. Save your ire for overtaker/undertakers weaving their way through busy traffic getting approx 6ft further forward all told and causing everyone else to break or possibly an accident. Dicks.

It doesn't give me the rage but people driving up your arse is very distracting.

@Cheetahssitonfajitas

You're welcome Smile if you got the idea from me, PP suggested it further upthread. Much better than trying to force yourself in at the front of the queue imo.

Cheetahssitonfajitas · 25/02/2019 19:31

I wouldn't do that, I generally sit in the queue and just swear a lot. No more!

People who slow down deliberately to punish cars behind them for whatever reason. This makes you just as bad

Report
ReaganSomerset · 25/02/2019 21:07

@Siriismyonlyfriend I'm pretty sure the highway code actually tells you to slow down if someone is tailgating you as this encourages them to pass you.

Report
Siriismyonlyfriend · 25/02/2019 21:20

I’m pretty sure you are meant to maintain your speed and slow down on a stretch of straight road if they are able to pass, not just slow down in general

Report
ReaganSomerset · 25/02/2019 21:38

Well, I was always told to slow down and let the other driver overtake and that was the answer to a theory test question when I took my test.

Also says it here: drivingtheorytest.com/attitude/

I was never given any advice about maintaining speed until they can overtake. If anything that's dangerous- if I have to brake suddenly they'll end up in my car boot and I'd rather that happen at a slower speed.

@barrenfieldoffucks

What is the road marking in the right hand lane of a dual carriage way to turn left? I've only ever seen them marked as straight/right or a combined arrow. Is it some loop-de-loop circle crossing over itself?

Report
Barrenfieldoffucks · 25/02/2019 22:27

Neither lane is marked as you come.off roundabout 1. It is just a dual carriageway. As you get further along it tells you that left lane is to get to place a and right lane is for everywhere else.

So as you come off roundabout 1, either lane is a valid choice. Locals tend to stick to the left hand lane because later on they want to go left, but either lane is valid. 🤷

As for slingshotting, that's just a perfectly legitimate way of using a roundabout.

People who put their fog lights one when it's raining or a bit misty, or who leave them on when it isn't foggy anymore and blind you.

People who park selfishly.

People who aren't ready to go when the lights change to green.

People who don't position their car in the filter lane so take up half the right turn lane and half of the straight on lane.

People who don't indicate.

People who drive at 10mph holding up anyone.

I get more annoyed with pedestrians down my road to be honest!

I was coming home from work last night, 7pm, and there's a woman and a child of about 2, standing in the middle of the road, in their PJs! No idea what they were doing, but totally oblivious of my presence, until I revved my engine at them a bit. The mother glanced up briefly, then slowly ambled her and the child out of the way.
So many questions...

Traffic light dawdlers. I’m a very calm person - apart from this. Watch for the green light and shift your arse.

Cars that look like bikes cos they can't be bothered to replace a headlight bulb.

People who don't indicate - esp if there are no cars but some pedestrians around. People on the pavement need to know which way you're going too.

undertakers weaving their way through busy traffic

Fucking hearses. Think they own the roads. 😂

Bikes without no/poor lights- the ones that flash aren't good enough- reflective gear or helmets. Particularly when they then insist on pedalling along national speed limit roads (country lanes are the worst) in the dark.

You sound as bad as the tailgater sparkle , you may acknowledge that you are a petty cow and childish but that really has no place behind the wheel of a car

People who think lights changing to red don't apply to them

People who don't indicate

Tailgaters

People who don't say thanks when you've let them in

People who drive 4x4 who expect you to leap into the verge (narrow country roads here)

Once got into some aggro with a 4x4 driver on a single track road through the middle of field. Just by coincidence we met along this usually deserted track, I was in my saloon car, she was in her enormous Land Rover with enough ground clearance to cross a small river. We met bonnet to bonnet and she started f'in and blinding for me to move out the way. Either side of the track was pot holes and bumpy grass. I'd very likely ground my car. I pointed out to her she was in a 4x4 and she gobbed off she couldn't do it. She kept on getting more wound up, I refused to budge and sat staring impassively at her. Eventually she revved up and threw her car to the side, honestly how someone can make such a simple maneuver look so hard I don't know. Dozy bitch put to much acceleration in and dug her front wheels in, I drove past giving her a cheery wave. In the rearview mirror I saw her backing out of her self inflicted stranding.

Other karma story I have is; I got overtaken on a country B-Road by a very impatient Range Rover who not only passed me, but continued past another 5 (yes 5!) cars, he swerved back in at the last moment as the road turned a corner, narrowly missing the oncoming car... Which happened to be plod! I've never seen a police car do such a quick U-turn, a few seconds later he's pulled up roadside with the police walking over to him.

It restored my faith in Karma Smile

I was going to say I didn't have any driving gripes as I'm generally prettt chIlled about things (ex was a batshit road racer and I found it pathetic), but my main one is, I live on a main road and my house has a drive that I prefer to reverse into because it's safer when driving out. I HATE it when I slow down, and indicate to pull into the pavement, I've often had people beep at me! It's as if I'm not allowed to park at my own house. And the other way round, when I'm on the other side of the road and I pull into the middle and indicate, people always try to 'flash me in' as if I'm going to drive straight onto my drive. But I prefer to reverse so would rather wait till it's clear and then pull onto the opposite pavement and then reverse on. I've taken to putting my hazards on now.
