To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?

Seen this on Facebook today from a cafe -

So we are a dog friendly cafe which is completely acceptable by health and safety as long as the dogs don’t cook your food or enter the kitchen 😡 so don’t give us a hard time if you don’t like dogs because we like dogs better than humans - note don’t give Vicky a hard time over happy dogs because Vicky will always defend the dogs

Now I have a bit of a fear of dogs and wouldn't expect to see one in a cafe and I'd be a bit pissed off if I paid good money for food and drink only to be bollocked by "Vicky" if I didn't like a dog in my face Hmm AIBU to think it's not a good message to tell your paying customers that they come second to another species?

No it's not a pit bull, it's an English bull terrier.

cushioncovers · 23/02/2019 08:59

Luna pit bulls are far more than just guard dogs. They are banned in the U.K. but are a popular but misunderstood dog in the USA.

Aridane · 23/02/2019 08:59

Vicky sounds demented (and the. Dogs badly behaved aka excitable)

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/02/2019 09:00

Is that a pitbull? I knew someone would say something daft like that.

Don't be so bloody ridiculous. PitBulls are a banned breed. Why would anyone own one, let alone post a picture of one in public?

He is a Bull Terrier. www.thekennelclub.org.uk/services/public/breed/display.aspx?id=3063

Bred to be a 'gentleman's companion', happy to travel round, intelligent and very friendly. That they are muscly little dogs leads to all sorts of comments, like yours Luna none of which remotely reflect the breed!

Willow2017 · 23/02/2019 09:00

Vicky sounds awful so i wouldn't go there to watch her go mad at her paying customers and pay for the privilege.
It's fine to have a dog friendly policy but don't talk about your customers as if they are unimportant and you are better than them that is going to piss people off more than the dogs.

But i have no prob with well behaved dogs in cafes. They usually lie quietly and arent a pest in my local cafe Nero. Any dog that doesn't the manager has a word with the owner (only seen it once in years.)

If you don't like dogs its pretty clear you just don't go there. You dont have a right to insist someone runs thier business to suit you.

cushioncovers · 23/02/2019 09:03

How old is your boy curious?

Roussette · 23/02/2019 09:06

curious he's a beauty and still a baby!

Are the dogs all going to be buying themselves coffees and lunches? Vicky sounds a right plonker

This made me laugh lots. Just imagining dogs with handbags and wallets.
Just ignore me. As you were.
Grin

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/02/2019 09:07

4 months, cushions Just a baby and being taught how not to pull, jump up, whine and squirm and all those other puppy behaviours that are so bloody irritating to everyne, owners included Smile

mydogisthebest · 23/02/2019 09:07

I think Vicky has just had enough of customers complaining about dogs. Having spent a couple of years working in retail I know from experience just how awful some customers (a lot of customers) can be. Certainly I prefer dogs to a lot of the miserable, moaning or even downright abusive customers I have had to deal with in the past.

I like dog friendly cafes and have never seen dogs running round or misbehaving in one. I sometimes go to a dog friendly vegetarian restaurant and, again, there has never been any problems with the dogs there.

I think it is great that restaurants, cafes, shops and coffee shops are now allowing dogs in. In Europe they have been allowed in those sorts of places for years and yet we are meant to be a nation of dog lovers!

I lived in France and took my dog everywhere. If I asked if he was allowed in I would be met with surprise that I had asked. Then we had to move back to the UK and him not being allowed anywhere (this was a good few years ago).

Now we need more hotels to accept them just as they do in Europe.

I also love cat cafes. I have been to the one in London and also Leeds and Nottingham. Great places

Changedmynametoolikeyou · 23/02/2019 09:08

Why would anyone mess with a dog’s period? That’s disgusting.

And she missed an apostrophe 🙄

alfagirl73 · 23/02/2019 09:10

I agree with the PP who said it sounds like Vicky is just fed up with people coming into their dog-friendly cafe and complaining about dogs! Sadly there really are people stupid enough to do things like visit a cat-cafe and then complain about cats being there!

I suspect the dog-friendly cafe has made it very clear that it is a dog-friendly establishment, that dogs are enthusiastically welcomed, and still have people go in and make a fuss about dogs being in there - in which case, I can, to a degree, understand the perhaps somewhat OTT post by Vicky. Personally I'm wondering where this place is so I can visit! I love dogs - can't have one due to work etc... but would happily sit surrounded by dogs all day! And cats! I went to a cat cafe recently and it was lovely!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 23/02/2019 09:10

I love English bull terriers and generally don't mind dogs in cafes or pubs. But Vicki needs to learn some pr skills.

mydogisthebest · 23/02/2019 09:10

Curious, he is utterly gorgeous. I wanted a bull terrier when we got our puppy but we stuck with the breed we know.

I love just about all breeds but, to me, bull terriers are just so beautiful

Roussette · 23/02/2019 09:10

Oh no, please not dogs in hotels. I would hate that. At least I know I can go to a hotel and it be a dog free zone. (as I said upthread, I like dogs, but I like them in their place and that isn't in hotels).

I travel in Europe. Lots of hotels don't accept dogs. Thank goodness. In fact the majority don't.

cushioncovers · 23/02/2019 09:11

Ooh you've got your hands full then curious.

AnguasDogCollar · 23/02/2019 09:15

There's a couple of places I go where dogs are welcome. It's either just understood that it's fine, or there's a sign somewhere that says "dog friendly".

Vicky sounds utterly unhinged. The sort of person who will stand by indulgently smiling while her massive dog flattens you, nicks your sandwich and licks your face and says "Aw! He's trying to make fwends bless him!" Nothing wrong with a dog-friendly cafe but the aggressive tone makes it sound less dog-friendly and more human-unfriendly. I wouldn't go there WITH a dog!

woollyheart · 23/02/2019 09:16

@Roussette
I have to disagree with you. We drove through Europe last year with a dog. We just chose random hotels every day as we had driven far enough. We only encountered one that didn't allow dogs.

It seems to be normal to take dogs. They didn't make a fuss - just whisked you to a suitable room. I doubt other guests even realised there were dogs in the hotel.

I'm sure they kept most rooms dog free so guests who were allergic or not dog lovers enjoyed themselves too.

Roussette · 23/02/2019 09:20

I don't know then woolly. Me and DH are now retired and we pootle round Europe lots and never saw a dog in a hotel. And we've done this for more than a month at a time. Plus... lots of dog owners I know are always sharing info as to where the dog friendly hotels are because they are few and far between. Perhaps we just travel to different places!

diddl · 23/02/2019 09:21

"her stupid idiotic spelling and general violent sounding comments would put me off entirely, "

Yup!

LunafortJest · 23/02/2019 09:21

@CuriousaboutSamphire Wow. You prove that just like Vicki, some dog lovers can be very hostile and aggressive. I asked because a) I am in a country that hasn't banned pitbulls, and b) they look almost identical to me, which is why I asked. Also, if you are so used to people asking, you clearly understand that they look similar, so why take attitude with me? It is dog owers like you and Vicki that give dog lovers a bad name. Maybe take a step back before you lash out at someone for asking an honest question.

ooooohbetty · 23/02/2019 09:22

I don't like dogs in cafes so they wouldn't get my business.

LaFreaka · 23/02/2019 09:24

@Roussette Our dog has been to loads of hotels in this country and France. All very easy.

woollyheart · 23/02/2019 09:25

You are right about dog friendly hotels being rare in the UK. That's why you hear people raving about them so much.

In Europe, I think they just have the attitude that you need a bed for the night and they provide it. They still accept you need a room even if you have children or dogs with you. I love it that they are hospitable to everyone that needs somewhere to sleep. But because it is normal there, nobody needs to mention that dogs are welcome.

Willow2017 · 23/02/2019 09:26

CuriousaboutSamphire Is that a pitbull? If so I wouldn't a dog like that out in public around me. A nice collie or golden retriever, attractive looking dogs who aren't dangerous would be ok. But dogs like pitbulls are meant to be guard dogs so should be at home guarding the house while you're out.

WTAF?

It looks nothing like a pit bull!

So a good looking dog cant be 'dangerous'?

No wonder there are so many clueless dog owners around and people who are just as clueless that any dog could be dangerous given the right provocation/circumstances!

Fiveredbricks · 23/02/2019 09:26

You'd hate Brighton OP... Dogs in every shop, cafe, pub ... Even M&S.

Even up north dogs are in a lot of coffee shops and cafes and especially most pubs.

Yabu. Need to get a bit of a grip tbh.
