To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?

Seen this on Facebook today from a cafe -

So we are a dog friendly cafe which is completely acceptable by health and safety as long as the dogs don’t cook your food or enter the kitchen 😡 so don’t give us a hard time if you don’t like dogs because we like dogs better than humans - note don’t give Vicky a hard time over happy dogs because Vicky will always defend the dogs

Now I have a bit of a fear of dogs and wouldn't expect to see one in a cafe and I'd be a bit pissed off if I paid good money for food and drink only to be bollocked by "Vicky" if I didn't like a dog in my face Hmm AIBU to think it's not a good message to tell your paying customers that they come second to another species?

Roussette, agree with all of your last post.
The problem is as always with the humans who don’t train their dogs (or children) in the basic art of good manners and not pestering other people. There is nothing nicer than well behaved and happy dogs or children. Bored badly behaved miserable ones ruin it for everyone.

MissClareRemembers · 23/02/2019 08:20

Tbf if you work in hospitality (or basically any customer facing role) you will most likely end up liking animals more than humans🤷‍♀️

😂 so very true!

Oldbutstillgotit · 23/02/2019 08:21

A rather aggressive message but at least you know that the cafe is not for you so not sure what the issue is ? A bit similar is a cafe near us that has banned prams. . There is a “ pram park” at the back . Despite a friendly notice on the door , people still complain and the FB page is full of complaints about discrimination! The fact is there are several equally nice pram welcoming cafes close by so customers have a choice .

flumpybear · 23/02/2019 08:25

With that message she's putting off people who don't like dogs ... fine, but her stupid idiotic spelling and general violent sounding comments would put me off entirely, with or without dogs!

Roussette · 23/02/2019 08:27

It's something I don't understand then Curious. Maybe I was lucky with our dog when I was younger, we had massive garden (more like field) and he spent a lot of time out there sniffing around, it was safe enough to leave him out there on occasions when we were out as well... so there's the difference. Being sat in cars, under desks, in offices, well I just can't imagine that. (not saying there's anything wrong with it, I just find it a bit strange sorry)

SerenDippitty · 23/02/2019 08:31

I think the cafe’s message is fine.

If you don’t like dogs don’t go to Paris is all I can say. Dog friendly seems to be the default there and not the exception. I bloody love it.

Roussette · 23/02/2019 08:31

Bored badly behaved miserable ones ruin it for everyone Totally agree Ploppy that that applies to children and dogs!

I suppose this cafe fills a need. That's fine. I won't go there! besides which, Vicki scares me

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/02/2019 08:34

Roussette I suspect if we had a massive, safe garden/field I'd leave mine home too Smile But I don't. So I did a lot of research to find a car happy breed!

Just to clarify, I don't work in an office, I travel around a lot and spend up to an hour at a time out of his sight, he isn't left anywhere he doesn't get either the peace and quiet to sleep or proper stimuli to play/learn. The back of my car is set up the same as his crate at home, so it is his own safe space.

Having said that, I work with someone who fosters assistance dogs.. and they all sit under desks for hours Grin

Strugglingtodomybest · 23/02/2019 08:36

I think the message is fine. You now know to avoid that cafe, surely that's better than wandering in unawares if you're scared of dogs? Sorry, I'm not really sure why you have a problem with it?

Roussette · 23/02/2019 08:39

I get it Curious and I dont live there now... it was deffo a dog happy place.... so many happy memories!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/02/2019 08:42

Sorry can't resist..

My happy boy

echt · 23/02/2019 08:42

Vicki sounds a right tit, but she's essentially doing you and people with your aversion a favour, OP. What's not to like?

For myself, I no more like other people's dogs in cafes than I do other people's children. If they are well-behaved, then fine.

It's some time ago but when I was last in France, dogs under tables were quite usual. You would hardly know they were there.

LunafortJest · 23/02/2019 08:44

@CripsSandwiches If you think the message the owner posted is 'tongue in cheek', you are very very naive. The owner is way ott in her reactions and defence. Not the OP. You have it the exact wrong way around.

LinoleumBlownapart · 23/02/2019 08:45

I can imagine what that cafe is like. Not my kind if place. I love dogs, I love my dog but not around food, around food dogs are aseholes.

strawberrisc · 23/02/2019 08:47

Jesus. Go to another cafe, it's not like there aren't enough of them. I'd rather take my gorgeous Border Collie than have loads of screaming brats running around the place.

cushioncovers · 23/02/2019 08:47

Well Vicky sounds like the dog equivalent of a mad cat lady. But as I love animals more than humans I'd be thrilled to go to a cafe where dogs were welcomed over humans. I went to a cat cafe last year and loved it.

cushioncovers · 23/02/2019 08:48

Omg curious your doggy is utterly adorable 💕

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/02/2019 08:49

Thanks cushion he's 4 months and starting to be 'forgetful' about his manners Smile

notahiker · 23/02/2019 08:49

Vicki has probably had to deal with people like the OP complaining about dogs in the cafe hence the strong message.

OP go somewhere else ! You do have a choice.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 23/02/2019 08:49

If they like dogs better than humans then why open a cafe? Are the dogs all going to be buying themselves coffees and lunches? Vicky sounds a right plonker.

LunafortJest · 23/02/2019 08:53

@CuriousaboutSamphire Is that a pitbull? Shock If so I wouldn't a dog like that out in public around me. A nice collie or golden retriever, attractive looking dogs who aren't dangerous would be ok. But dogs like pitbulls are meant to be guard dogs so should be at home guarding the house while you're out.

Bohbell · 23/02/2019 08:53

I like dogs but ‘attitude’ of any kind positively repels me so would not go into Vicky’s cafe under any circumstances.

Whitney168 · 23/02/2019 08:56

Dog lover here, but by that I mean dogs, not 'furbabies' (bleurgh) dressed in silly costumes - so I would avoid like the plague anyway!

All hail the proper dog walking cafes that sell good tea and cake/fish & chips to dog folk who have actually been for a proper walk with their dogs somewhere beautiful though.

SerenDippitty · 23/02/2019 08:56

I think that is a Bull terrier not a pit Bull! Yes he is utterly gorgeous.

Bohbell · 23/02/2019 08:57

Also can’t hack people comparing dogs with CHILDREN. Fgs, my dog does not come before a child ever.
