AIBU?

To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?

Seen this on Facebook today from a cafe -

So we are a dog friendly cafe which is completely acceptable by health and safety as long as the dogs don’t cook your food or enter the kitchen 😡 so don’t give us a hard time if you don’t like dogs because we like dogs better than humans - note don’t give Vicky a hard time over happy dogs because Vicky will always defend the dogs

Now I have a bit of a fear of dogs and wouldn't expect to see one in a cafe and I'd be a bit pissed off if I paid good money for food and drink only to be bollocked by "Vicky" if I didn't like a dog in my face Hmm AIBU to think it's not a good message to tell your paying customers that they come second to another species?

OP it's just not the cafe for you - are you struggling to find somewhere else or why the fixation?

Cat cafes are everywhere now, you have to pre book weeks in advance near me!

The message from the cafe is oddly worded and vicky sounds like a moron - bitch fairy? Wtf is she?
I've nothing against dogs being cafes and pubs (I met a lovely little poodle cross at our local the other day) but I feel like the owners and/or staff at the cafe you're talking about a bit... rough?

ywbu to be annoyed about dogs in a dog friendly cafe though, just don't go in.

Go to a different cafe then! My dog and I regularly go to cafes and pubs - I can honestly say he's far less trouble than the kids and babies who scream, run around, drop food and disturb the peace (though he willingly clears up after them!) He doesn't approach anyone else and lies under the table. I personally don't want to deal with kids screaming or throwing food into me as they run past me but in a public place we have to deal with things we don't like.

Ergh, just found the place on facebook, to be honest the sickly sweet name of the place would put me off anyway. People who are militant about liking dogs more than humans are usually bores.

Oh my dog would love a cat cafe! Grin - not sure the cats would be that happy!

Oh and can we stop comparing pets with actual human children.

why are you making a to do about her facebook message, seems ok to me
if you dont want to go there because of the dogs, then dont go there

I would actually like to know which cafes are dog friendly so I know which ones to avoid.

This cafe’s Facebook message is a bit aggressive though and for that alone I hope it draws people away from them.

Vicki is bonkers - and I say that as someone who adores dogs - but at least you know where you stand.

Ps don't go to the Peak District - even the shops let dogs in, it's brilliant! (Not that I took mine in the gift type shops, I foresaw breakages!)

Vicky sounds awful , and the Cafe sounds as if it’s one I would avoid if I read that
I can take dogs or leave them , but I don’t want excited labs bouncing around while I’m trying to enjoy coffee and cake 🍰

They have linked to "Vicky's" profile. She ha said:

Just don’t mess with the dogs period or the bitch fairy comes out to play
The bitch fairy and team fairydust don’t tolerate non dog lovers
End of 🥊

And

I’m still fuming with the woman who went bitchfest today over two adorable chocolate labs being excited x will defend a fur baby all day long 365 don’t mess there ever
Nuff said dogs are so super nicer than humans

^I like dogs but that would put me off visiting the cafe. The woman, Vicky sounds like a nutcase

And as shown in her message, usually quite arrogant about it as well.
Bore off and go and live away from humans then!

Roussette, it’s so you can go for a walk with dog then pop in for a cuppa.

In the 60’s people left dogs in cars and they died. Thanks to a massive campaign people don’t do that anymore. So it’s accept dogs or lose custom.

My sister and I weee discussing where the national trust has gone wrong with this. They have made great efforts in the past 5 years or so to attract families and we welcoming to dogs. The problem is, the dogs are now allowed in the house (understandably) or gardens (just the extended rounds which are free entry anyway). So the dogs owners still dont go as and pay entry. Compared to Longleat house who prove kennels outside the safari where the dog understandably can’t go. National trust are missing a trick there.

because we like dogs better than humans

Well that's up to them, but I certainly wouldn't be giving them by business with that attitude.

YY @Roussette I find the "bringing the dog everywhere" thing strange. My mum takes her Shihtzu (sp?!) everywhere with her in the car, even if she's nipping to the post office, and she will leave him in the car for 2 hours while she goes to the supermarket because "I can't leave him at home it's cruel" Confused surely not as cruel as leaving the poor thing on a parcel shelf for half the morning?!

Horrible message. Aside from the fact I don't like dogs and I do think they're unhygienic in food places, this is just rude to customers.

If it's a dog friendly cafe, say so, but the additional pre-emptive aggression shows this person has an attitude problem. Some people just like a fight and need an issue to hang it on. Saying you don't like people when you're in customer service is really twattish.

This cafe is best avoided.

Ploppy I suppose when I was walking our dog when I was younger, I never had a thought of going for a drink, the whole purpose was to walk with the dog!

I appreciate times have changed but it's beyond me why for instance, people take their dogs to the local pub and spend the whole time trying to control the dog because it's bored out of its brains. On a Friday night it's rammed in there with locals drinking, can't move, and there are huge dogs there with me tripping over leads and trying to avoid stepping on paws. Leave the dog at home in peace, they don't have to go everywhere with you.

Exactly Gunpowder surely a dog is happier in it's home environment, wandering around, sleeping, eating, drinking than...
being restrained under a table in a cafe or pub. I just find it weird.

Tbf if you work in hospitality (or basically any customer facing role) you will most likely end up liking animals more than humans🤷‍♀️

I take my dog to cafes all the time.
Love a dog friendly cafe.

Saying that all the "bitchfest" stuff is rude and ott. The cafe owner could point out their dog stance far more politely.

One of my DC is scared of dogs so I probably wouldn't go there but I think you are being really ott in your reaction. She's dog crazy and wrote a silly tongue and cheek message. I would just get over it.

Ah! My dog comes with me everywhere. He sits in the car, usually asleep or chewing his toys, or comes into work with me. He gets a walk every hour, training reinfoced every walk, lots of fuss from people I work with.

He doesn't get left at home for a few hours unattended and bored.

He likes cafes, meeting loads of people in the street and playing with other dogs, where appropriate.

He is a far happier puppy than many others we meet. Vet and puppy trainer think the same... he is getting the best treatment and is socialising well.

We don't treat dogs like we used to when I was a kid. They can and should come everywhere with us. Though leaving them in a car forever is obviously not the way to go!

They've made their position clear so if you don't like dogs... or don't like Vicky's attitude then avoid. I love dogs but she sounds confrontational and not conducive to a happy relaxed atmosphere so I'd avoid too!

YABVU. The owner is making it VERY clear upfront that it is a dog friendly cafe and she has no time for anyone complaining about the dogs in there because they are equally as welcome. You can then make the informed decision not to use that cafe.

Vicky's cafe will have plenty of custom so she won't be missing your business.
