To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?

Seen this on Facebook today from a cafe -

So we are a dog friendly cafe which is completely acceptable by health and safety as long as the dogs don’t cook your food or enter the kitchen 😡 so don’t give us a hard time if you don’t like dogs because we like dogs better than humans - note don’t give Vicky a hard time over happy dogs because Vicky will always defend the dogs

Now I have a bit of a fear of dogs and wouldn't expect to see one in a cafe and I'd be a bit pissed off if I paid good money for food and drink only to be bollocked by "Vicky" if I didn't like a dog in my face Hmm AIBU to think it's not a good message to tell your paying customers that they come second to another species?

windy

whataboutbob · 24/02/2019 18:33

I completely agree with the op. If the owner is expressing a kind of anticipatory aggression towards customers , it doesn’t actually bode well for the gaff. Not everyone is soppy about canines, personally I have been charged by a staffie and told it was my fault for running away, I’m also fed up about the faeces that are a feature of my neighbourhood. Obvs I wouldn’t entertain going to that cafe.

whataboutbob · 24/02/2019 18:35

@Teacher22- I couldn’t have put it better.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/02/2019 18:46

Don't even get me started on the "attractive dogs" part of her post

Nor me PengAly

There's a million ways a breed can be attractive- - and personally, though I have never had an English bull myself, I think that they are stunningly handsome dogs, with a wickedly mischievous smile!

But this is one of the problems with people who don't know much about dogs (I think it's been mentioned upthread). They decide to get a puppy (fine), but pick a breed because it is "pretty", or Disney has made a film with it in, or it's "unusual" or what have you - they don't give a thought to what dogs of that breed require.

Sadly, it's a recipe for heartbreak.

puppy23 · 24/02/2019 18:48

As a major dog lover - no, I think its a sweet funny message

NannyRed · 24/02/2019 18:49

Dear OP, why?

Why does this cafe need to “rethink their message”?

Is it just because you don’t like it?

The world doesn’t revolve around you if you dislike dogs, dog lovers or dog friendly cafes/bars etc, then fuck off to somewhere with less of a dog vibe.

lily2403 · 24/02/2019 18:49

Vicky sounds completely mental therefore I would avoid on that basis alone Grin

Leapfrog44 · 24/02/2019 18:51

What the hell is wrong with you? You are the one with a problem for being afraid of dogs for starters - perhaps you should get some therapy for that? And then, leave the people with dogs free to go to dog friendly cafes. It's really none of your business to complain about dogs in a dog-friendly cafe. It's about someone who doesn't like children complaining about soft plays. Just don't go there!

BejamNostalgia · 24/02/2019 18:51

Oh God Lord OP, never visit Grindleford Station Cafe. It’s covered in loads of angry notes from the owner. I’ve attached an example. It obviously doesn’t put people off, the family have owned it for 45 years.

To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?

That you Vicky?

Once again for the slow people - I don't have a problem with dog friendly cafes (like I say I just wouldn't go to one) - but I think it's ridiculous to state that some slobbering overexcited pooch ALWAYS takes precedent over human paying customers.

A PP made a good point about dog hairs - lots of dogs in a cafe seems a bit gross to me

It's 'LIKE' someone who doesn't like children complaining about the existence of soft plays.

GunpowderGelatine · 24/02/2019 18:53

You are the one with a problem for being afraid of dogs for starters

Hmm

How do?

I really distrust people who defend dogs in such an aggressive way and are so narrow minded that they can't contemplate that people don't like them

*how so not how do

GunpowderGelatine · 24/02/2019 18:55

@Leapfrog44 except I'm not complaining about the existence of dog friendly cafes, so I'm not sure what your point is?

I don't like the idea of dogs in cafes but I don't need to go to a dog-friendly cafe. I can choose which cafe I go to - depends on lots of factors. I'm not going to get myself worked up about a dog-friendly cafe and I think it is nice that there is that option for people who might be out and about with their dogs and want to stop for a coffee.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 24/02/2019 18:58

It’s a dog cafe
So don’t go

Vicky sounds like a tool though 😖

Deadbudgie · 24/02/2019 18:59

Well you know to go somewhere else then. I would know that I could take my dog in. Tbh it’s savy to be dog welcoming for a business.

Unless they’re on a busy high street/shopping centre the majority of people out and about from Oct to March have a dog round here (and many in the summer so why would you not welcome dogs whose owners will keep your business going in winter.

Last year one of the fastest growing bar chains was the lounger chain who have a model of being child and dog friendly. A very large proportion of people who holiday in the uk have dogs and that number is growing. Most other people are a bit take it or leave it with dogs and wouldn’t avoid dog friendly places. So of course more and more businesses are going to cater to the dog owning market

Millimollimandi · 24/02/2019 19:02

Went into Coffee#1 yesterday and they had dogs in there. I don't have a problem, as long as they don't stick their nose in my crotch, but I was suprised, I didn't think they were allowed, but what do I know? Nothing apparently!

PinaColada1 · 24/02/2019 19:03

I am a bit surprised by the number of cafes letting dogs in. I have a friend with a guide dog, and they get a lot of training to be able to behave well in cafes. They need to ignore food which most dogs find impossible, and not to cause hazards, and also have up to date vacccinations which most dogs don’t have.

It’s a nice idea but I do think it’s naive.

whataboutbob · 24/02/2019 19:08

@BejamNostalgia they only hate kids, not dogs. Nothing to see here.

countrygirl99 · 24/02/2019 19:12

Stopped at a cafe with my horse yesterday. I was tempted by the cream tea but didn't want a fight over the scones so stuck to ice cream.

OftenHangry · 24/02/2019 19:16

Such a hygiene hazard.
They lose hair non stop. 50-100 each day. And skin. They shed skin all the time and everywhere.
Sneezing. Travels up to 200 feet! All that mucus, dpit and bakteria
They can be loud af and many really aggressive. Especially the young untrained ones.
And lastly. Reportedly 95% of them don't wash their hands after using toilet.

Yup.
People should be ban from cafes😂

lilypoppet · 24/02/2019 19:16

I was eating in a chain café the other day and it was raining and two dogs came in with their owner and shook themselves down the way dogs do, and I swear some of the droplets they were shaking off landed in my toastie. I'm not a massive fan of non-working dogs in cafes and certainly wouldn't go to the one you describe.

OftenHangry · 24/02/2019 19:17

Apologies for the spelling😮 Had foreign autocorrect on 😂

Noteventhebirdsareupyet · 24/02/2019 19:26

Owner sounds like a fruit loop!

Hard to find a cafe or in pub in Devon that won't allow dogs.

The bizarre comments from the owner would out me off, not the dogs.
