To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?

Seen this on Facebook today from a cafe -

So we are a dog friendly cafe which is completely acceptable by health and safety as long as the dogs don’t cook your food or enter the kitchen 😡 so don’t give us a hard time if you don’t like dogs because we like dogs better than humans - note don’t give Vicky a hard time over happy dogs because Vicky will always defend the dogs

Now I have a bit of a fear of dogs and wouldn't expect to see one in a cafe and I'd be a bit pissed off if I paid good money for food and drink only to be bollocked by "Vicky" if I didn't like a dog in my face Hmm AIBU to think it's not a good message to tell your paying customers that they come second to another species?

@liverbird10 😀😀😀
They are right - you need well-behaved owners!

ALongHardWinter · 24/02/2019 17:38

I'd rather go to a cafe/restaurant full of well behaved dogs than spoilt, brattish, badly behaved kids, which unfortunately seems to be the norm these days.

pollymere · 24/02/2019 17:40

We just don't eat anywhere like that. Simple. I also no longer shop in Laura Ashley Home for the same reason (yes really).

JustOneShadeOfGrey · 24/02/2019 17:40

Good woman, Vicky. Her cafe, her rules.

I’ve never known anyone to die from ingesting a dog hair. Dog owners will hopefully back me up!

We are all way too precious about hygiene and this hasn’t helped our children deal with allergies, etc.

As long as owners keep their doggies under control, I don’t see an issue with dog friendly cafes or restaurants. A lot of the time there are designated areas for diners with their pooches.

Don’t like it? Don’t go there. Dining out is a luxury not a right so you can choose your own preferred eating establishment!

yyz112 · 24/02/2019 17:43

Smile Lots of restaurants in Europe allow dogs in.

ShowMeTheKittens · 24/02/2019 17:46

I feel like Vicky needs telling. Grin

Teacher22 · 24/02/2019 17:50

Vicky sounds positively ghastly and her policy will result in half of her potential customer base staying away. However, it will attract the dog lovers and leave other cafes free of pooches so is a blessing in disguise.

Anyone who does not like dogs in this country is on a hiding to nothing expecting sympathy. Most people prefer dogs to humans and we who merely tolerate canines and are wary of the disadvantages they bring in their wake are silenced by the dog owners and lovers.

Daw321 · 24/02/2019 17:50

I like dogs as much as the next person but i personally wouldnt go here. I work in an industry where Environmental Health visit one a year to make the usual checks and knowing how picky (rightly so) they are, i cannot understand how places such cafes/hotels/pubs can allow dog's in. You only have to have 1 unhygienic accident and who'd want to be sat inches from a dog doing that. A friend of mine owns a cafe that allows dogs in (shes dog mad) and i always make an excuse when visiting as to why im not eating. How can you really be sure they havent fussed a dog, completly forgotten to wash their hands and then prepared food? No thanks. Vicky sounds a bit loony tbh.

theDudesmummy · 24/02/2019 17:51

YABU. There used to be a dog cafe near me. I would never dream of going into it (I grew up in a dog-mad household, hair everywhere, dog snouts pushing onto your food plate while you are trying to eat, fleas and ticks in your bed etc etc , and I really do not like dogs now. I would not want to eat with one present). But I was sad to see the cafe close because I am sure it filled a desire and even a need for many. If they tell you it is a dog cafe and you don't like dogs, unless it is the last remaining food and drink place in the town, surely you just go somewhere else? If you are a vegan you are not going to go the Brazilian BBQ are you? If you have acrophobia you are not goig to book to eat at the top of the Shard?

Poloshot · 24/02/2019 17:51

If you don't like it don't go

Jogonandshutup · 24/02/2019 17:53

Where is this cafe - I want to go!!! Sounds amazing 👍🏻

Redglitter · 24/02/2019 17:55

I think the sign is a great idea. Its making it clear it's dog friendly so people like me who aren't can keep well clear of it

SoSaidTheHorse · 24/02/2019 17:55

If they're the type to forget to wash their hands then I'd be more concerned about them going to the toilet without washing their hands, which is possible in any cafe, than stroking a dog and not washing their hands.

Loolol64 · 24/02/2019 17:58

Why does this annoy you? It's not personal. When I see a sign saying "Dogs not permitted" I accept that. I wish we had more dog friendly places where I live but hey if you don't like the message the cafe puts out, simply go somewhere more to your liking.

smilingontheinside · 24/02/2019 17:59

Tabu as you can choose not to go. I on the other hand would love it especially if kids were not allowed. Much prefer a dog to a squealing kid when I'm trying to enjoy my coffee and cake. Our local coffee shop allows dogs who usually lie quietly under the table unlike kids who's parents drink their coffee while their offspring are climbing over chairs, racing around tables or screaming. Grin

smilingontheinside · 24/02/2019 18:00

Yabu! !

manicmij · 24/02/2019 18:02

Most dogs I have seen in cafes and pubs either side beside owner or under chair/table. Dog owners want to enjoy their time in establishments too so would be surprised if you even notice a dog being there.YABU as the message is clear, accept digs or don't go in.

simonisnotme · 24/02/2019 18:04

I wouldnt go to it, not because of the dogs but because of their attitude that they like dogs better than humans, after all who is it that pays the bill ?
the bloody dogs dont

ChiaraRimini · 24/02/2019 18:06

Is Vicky's surname Pollard?

winniestone37 · 24/02/2019 18:14

Dear god get over yourself and go to one of the 1000s of cages that don't accept dogs. You are being ridiculous.

threecee · 24/02/2019 18:16

I thought there were rules about dogs in cafe's from a hygiene point of view.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 24/02/2019 18:18

Round by me most cafes accept days.

Yabu, if you don’t like dogs don’t go into that cafe.

It’s like complaining about the noise when going into a pub that plays, and advertises, live heavy metal music Grin

NunoGoncalves · 24/02/2019 18:24

I thought there were rules about dogs in cafe's from a hygiene point of view

You are correct, there are. The rules say dogs are not allowed in areas where food is prepared. They are allowed in areas where food is served and consumed.

pigsDOfly · 24/02/2019 18:27

I have a dog and I have taken her to dog friendly cafes but she sits on my lap and I don't hear a peep out of her.

However, I very much doubt I'd be going to Vicky's cafe as she sounds slightly potty and her attitude somewhat aggressive.

The message makes it sound like dogs would be allowed to run around the place and anyone who didn't like it would be told in no uncertain terms that they can bugger off.

Not my kind of dog friendly I'm afraid.

CauliflowerBalti · 24/02/2019 18:29

Tone of the messages are a bit aggressive. Content? Fine. Just go somewhere else if you don’t like dogs. There are more non-dog friendly places than those that accept dogs. You’ll be grand.
