To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?

Seen this on Facebook today from a cafe -

So we are a dog friendly cafe which is completely acceptable by health and safety as long as the dogs don’t cook your food or enter the kitchen 😡 so don’t give us a hard time if you don’t like dogs because we like dogs better than humans - note don’t give Vicky a hard time over happy dogs because Vicky will always defend the dogs

Now I have a bit of a fear of dogs and wouldn't expect to see one in a cafe and I'd be a bit pissed off if I paid good money for food and drink only to be bollocked by "Vicky" if I didn't like a dog in my face Hmm AIBU to think it's not a good message to tell your paying customers that they come second to another species?

My dog is very handsome and likes cafes. He likes pubs. He likes hotel like Hotel du Vin where he is very welcome. He sits quietly and waits for food to drop. Apart from in the hotels where he explores minibars.

There are some very stupid questions. Frequently to husband when he mentions his twin sister, “Are you identically?”.

To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?
CherryPavlova · 23/02/2019 20:59

That’s identical.

Raspberry88 · 23/02/2019 21:03

Not sure why you are on a dog thread

Erm...just so you know this isn't a 'dog thread.' Its about cafes mostly. All got a bit mean there I think. Very easy to mix dog breeds up if you're not familiar with them...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/02/2019 21:08

Also easier to believe people who do have them when they say you have made a mistake in your understanding of the dog in question.

But yes. OP, my apologies. I made it all about me and my puppy... both of us do love a dog friendly cafe.

LunafortJest · 23/02/2019 21:10

"Maybe, instead of accusing people who are trying to correct your misunderstanding of being arrogant you could ponder your own reasons for not being able to take on board new information."

Maybe instead of being all condescending and aggressive in your responses ^I knew someone would say something daft like that.
Don't be so bloody ridiculous.
That they are muscly little dogs leads to all sorts of comments, like yours Luna, if you want to educate someone maybe talk to them as if they are a person asking a question, not a bit of shit. And then act surprised when someone points out your hostile and condescending tone. You are like the owner the OP spoke of. You and a couple of other dog owners on here have shown you have no interest talking to people, just at^ them. And you wonder why some of you have the reputation you do? Time for me to Hide this thread as a few of you are too hostile and condescending to engage in conversation with.

OP, sorry, but it looks like a few people on here have further proved your point about dog owners, some seem incapable of cordial discussion around dogs and feel the need to talk to people like they're a bit of shit. Aggressive nutjobs are two words I would use. Good luck with the vipers OP! I'm out.

windydoggy · 23/02/2019 21:11

@Raspberry88 ok not strictly a dog thread but about dogs .And not very nice for @CuriousaboutSamphire to be accused of having a banned breed when her dog looks nothing like a pit ball and @LunafortJest seems to be taking everything personally when all I said is google images .

windydoggy · 23/02/2019 21:15

@LunafortJest I haven't spoken to you like shit at all , I said you were a little daft .
Christ on a forum that we can say fuck cunt and bollocks not sure why me calling you a little daft (when you were ) would be so offensive.

GunpowderGelatine · 23/02/2019 21:16

I see the thread has moved on a bit and I did LOL at @CuriousaboutSamphire dog getting accused of being a pitbull Grin

Meanwhile have you met my dragon?

To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/02/2019 21:18

Ooh! I love your dragon. Does she bite or just incinerate?

windydoggy · 23/02/2019 21:19

@GunpowderGelatine ooh how cute 🐾

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 23/02/2019 21:22

Well I would know to avoid that cafe! Hate dogs.

Aridane · 23/02/2019 21:29

Which cafe is it - was it posted earlier up thread?

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 23/02/2019 21:39

Pitbull, pitball [sic], bull terrier, wide forehead, whatever, they can all get in a curry. That's a good example of a dog in a cafe.

Willow2017 · 23/02/2019 22:28

A nice collie or golden retriever, attractive looking dogs who aren't dangerous would be ok.

Wtf does that mean them? If a dog isnt nice looking they must be dangerous?

And no an English bull terrier still doesnt look similar in any way to.a pitbull no.matter how many times you say it. The shape of their head/faces is completely different. You were the one who waded in on the dogs owner with your hysterical ranting. So.why get mad when people call you out on it?

I had a beautiful GSD who wouldn't hurt a fly should I have kept her indoors 24/7? My friend had one you couldnt trust as far as you could throw it, bit me through my coat pocket no warning. They were both beautiful dogs. Would you have decided both were attractive and not dangerous? Or both dangerous because of breed alone?

OftenHangry · 23/02/2019 22:47

@CherryPavlova he is gorgeous!
Sadly many of dalmations I knew had hearing problems. I guess inbreeding had some role in it.

CherryPavlova · 23/02/2019 22:56

OftenHangry Ours next year the fridge door opening from about a mile away! I think that lots are deaf but ours isn’t - except when he chooses.

CherryPavlova · 23/02/2019 22:58

My autocorrect is driving me mad! He hears the fridge .....

Miscella · 23/02/2019 23:05

I think a dog friendly cafe is a great idea. The majority of cafes and restaurants aren’t dog friendly so it’s not as if people who don’t like, or are scared of, dogs will not have anywhere to eat.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/02/2019 06:44

Oooh! Cherry he's lovely. I didn't see the picture on my phone last night or I'd have told you then Smile

@CherryPavlova ahhh. The selective deafness😂 Mine had it too. So did my grandfather😂

Rosenspants · 24/02/2019 09:23

I haven’t read the whole thread. We have holidays and weekends away in a small seaside village where over time all the cafes and restaurants have gradually become dog friendly. We aren’t dog owners and just have to accept we’re in a very small minority locally and the cafe owners are meeting the needs of their regulars.
That said, I am allergic to pet hairs, do not like other people’s dogs settling themselves under our table or jumping up, or sitting on my feet and the smell of some of them frankly puts me off my food. Mostly I just suck it up, but I occasionally ask the owner if they could move their dog out from under my table, stop the dog jumping up excitedly next to me....etc. Many are fine about it. Others are rude and entitled, and give the other dog owners a bad name.

Raspberry88 · 24/02/2019 11:53

Your arrogant ignorance about dogs and your sheer hatred of any breed which isn't "attractive" (in your opinion) shone through very clearly.

I didn't get that from LunafortJests posts at all. Also I'm pretty disgusted by the comments about daft questions. Of course there isn't such a thing when the very act of asking a question is about educating oneself. I'm really sad that is the attitude of someone engaged in educating young people. Your disdain for those students really shines through in your comments...

SileneOliveira · 24/02/2019 12:02

I'm hugely allergic to cats so a visit to a cat cafe would be horrific for me.

We have a cafe / casual restaurant place by us which is dog friendly but has a blackboard outside listing the terms on which you bring your dog in. It's basically a "three barks and you're out" policy.

I get why places might want to be dog friendly. But doing so at the expense of paying customers is just crazy.

SoSaidTheHorse · 24/02/2019 12:10

You wouldn't go to a cat cafe though. They're are actively advertised as having cats that you can interact with. That's the whole point of them. They aren't regular cafes where people are allowed to take their cats. The cats belong to the cafe.

I agree that owners should keep their dogs in check and not allow them to bother others but dog owners are also paying customers and in certain areas allowing dogs is likely to attract more customers than it loses.
