To wonder why Sajid Jarvis was so quick to remove Shamima Begum’s British nationality

But has done nothing about removing Asma Assad’s? Asma Assad is a dual British-Syrian National, so why not deprive her (and her kids) of British nationality? I can’t quite believe that the government hasn’ Done this. Why on Earth not?

Why on earth should we have her back???

She shows no remorse and to allow her back would cost millions in surveillance and protection. The tax payer would foot the bill and why the fuck should we.

SJ is protecting the British people. How is he an “arse” as someone quoted upthread, for doing that?

My heart breaks when I think of those poor innocent people that were murdered by those monsters.

Clearly those on here don’t feel the same. It’s all the do gooders again bleating on about human rights blah blah but yet fail to think that there was no thought for the human rights of the likes of Lee Rigby and those that were blown up in the Manchester bombings.

This person hates the western world, hates the UK and everything it represents and voluntarily left to go and live, shag and breed with these people- who blow up, murder, rape, torture and behead people.

Yet you want her back?

The comments on here make me sick to
my stomach.

TalkinPeece · 22/02/2019 20:35

Dungeon
If she does then he can remove her British citizenship, just as they have done for about 120 other Jihadists
And its an absolutely massive if
because if she faffs about in Syria (with which the UK has no consular service) till the day after she turns 21
she is the UK's problem
full stop
Sajid is a cynical racist git

MartyBaron · 22/02/2019 20:41

This is known in the trade as throwing a dead cat on the table.

If you want to distract people from something deeply embarrassing and/or inconvenient to oneself, do something completely random which distracts all attention in another direction.

In this case of course it’s the resignation of ten Labour and three Tory MPs from their parties. It’s an existential threat to both parties and they would do almost anything to keep it off the front pages and thus prevent the independent group gathering any momentum. The Shamima Begum debate is the perfect “dead cat” - not a particularly attractive issue but guaranteed to stir up left and right leaning media (and MNers) equally.

AguerosAngel · 22/02/2019 20:44

RedWine I completely agree.

forestafantastica · 22/02/2019 20:48

Why should we have her back?

Because we are legally obliged to do so and neither Syria nor Bangladesh are. Would you be that chuffed if you found out that a Bangladeshi terrorist who spoke no English, had never been to this country and had zero relatives here but did have a mum with a British passport would be arriving at Portsmouth tomorrow because the Bangladeshi government had decided they didn't want him?

Your argument is about as solid as me saying 'why shouldn't I pour my dustbin into my neighbors garden for them to pick it up. I don't want it. It's all garbage'.

C8H10N4O2 · 22/02/2019 20:48

Why on earth should we have her back???

Do you throw your stones into your neighbours' gardens?

MadCatEnthusiast · 22/02/2019 21:03

I just hope Jack Letts gets the scrutiny that SB has had over the last few days. He wants to come back to the UK, he's saying all the things SB said including the fact he thought that Paris 2015 attack was a good thing etc but he's just smarter with his words. He's not getting the same mini soundbites that she has had over the last week.

And the bit where he's said he's willing to stay in the camp for longer if women and children are let out is odd.

MissEliza · 22/02/2019 21:10

I think the Home Secretary knows he doesn't have a rock solid case to remove her passport but is trying to put on

MissEliza · 22/02/2019 21:10

Oops. Trying to put an obstacle in her way and knows he could face a legal battle.

SoupDragon · 22/02/2019 21:17

Why on earth should we have her back???

Because she is the UK's problem.

TemporaryPermanent · 22/02/2019 22:03

I DON'T WANT HER BACK.

IT'S THE LAW. Our one, our only protection. Yours, mine, hers. The law that can prosecute her if she has done wrong, as opposed to just thinking wrong. Justice, the beautiful difficult idea. Not mob rule. Which means nothing if it doesn't include the ugly and vile. We all consent to live under the law or we just loot each other for food.

MorskieOko · 22/02/2019 22:06

What Temporary said. Bring her back like she wants and try her under British law.

Iflyaway · 22/02/2019 22:12

doesn't appear that Syria has much appetite for prosecuting the wives of terrorists.

Hmmm... maybe something to do with there being no courts of law, being in a civil war an all Hmm

Dungeondragon15 · 22/02/2019 22:13

I wish I was as confident as many posters seems to be that if she returns she will be prosecuted.

According to this link most jihadis have returned with no consequences.

Dungeon

It depends if they have actually broken a UK law ....
you cannot just prosecute people for being different
in the UK at least

BMW6 · 22/02/2019 22:36

I daresay she will end up back here, and with a new identity and 24h protection.

TalkinPeece · 22/02/2019 22:38

I daresay she will end up back here, and with a new identity and 24h protection.
On what grounds?
She is over 18
She will be a convict
She will have to face the music for years with a tag on her ankle
best deterrent possible

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/02/2019 23:13

It is very hard to remove someone’s British nationality. I worked on a case about 20 years ago, and we had to make damn sure that they were eligible for another nationality and that we weren’t going to make them stateless. In the case I was dealing with, there was a strong element of doubt, as the other country didn’t recognise dual nationality and we were fairly sure that they viewed the man as a mono British National.

Asma Assad, as a British Citizen, is quite free to come in and out of U.K. as she chooses. She can’t go to any other EU country, but no problems with U.K.

Because it's a populist move and he wants to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and his cause will be supported by him
looking tough.

Tiggs335 · 23/02/2019 06:23

Because we've had enough of this shit and we're not putting up with it any more. Hopefully, it's the start of things to come where others will receive the same consequences!
I'm glad he's taking a stance on this.

flashbac · 23/02/2019 06:38

Lots of closet racists still frothing at the mouth about this. The girl has not been convicted of any crime (yet) therefore there should be a judicial process before stripping her of her rights. If you start punishing people outside the courts you end up with anarchy and mob rule. We are supposed to be a civilised country.
But that's not what the op asked. Javid has done this to pander to the frothing mouth brigade and distract us from Brexit. Good comparison with Asma Al Assad btw. She's still free to come and go. Likewise for the white female terrorist. I wonder why...

Jazzybeats · 23/02/2019 06:42

I am the child of immigrants. It’s now clear that my “Britishness” is not seen as such by the government, even though I was born in this country, have a British passport, etc.

Note I have no sympathy for SB. None.

The precedent that the government can unilaterally decide that a British born person is not British any more because they have immigrant parents is scary.

Jazzybeats · 23/02/2019 06:44

To answer OP: he’s doing it to position himself for TM job by appearing to take a hard line on her. Populism.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/02/2019 07:16

Agree with Jazzy

It’s purely a political move for himself that will be popular with many voters
