Saw this today and immediately thought of all the arguments on here over the years about washing towels, bed sheets and the horror of toilet brushes! Grin

I'm definitely more dirty than the cleaners verdicts!

just an proof that it is possible to lead a normal and relatively succesful life without having to obsess about laundry to the detriment of the environment.

It’s also possible to have a successful life with a clean towel every day without having to obsess about laundry. What makes you think I obsess about laundry? Confused

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/02/2019 21:37

It’s hard to keep up.

It’s true! You can never predict how these threads will go Grin

Aldilogue · 22/02/2019 21:43

ILoveMaxiBondi you’re a bloody legend!!
I personally don’t care how you dry yourself but I know that in aged care some residents prefer hand towels because it’s easier for them because they are lightweight and simple ( not saying you’re old, that would be ageist😀)

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/02/2019 21:46

I think this thread has aged me by ten years Grin

Couldn't agree more, @BertyFlanter and @PalmTree101 I have been on MN for about 14 years, and while there's no shortage of caustic wit on MN, it's a real pleasure to find the grace and sense of humour displayed by @ILoveMaxBondi.

mizzmelli · 23/02/2019 00:01

OH NO!! That poor innocent vinegar! It was going to do everyones laundry ans save the enviroment in one stroke!!

Towel Washgate is it the sequel to Watergate?
Anyway I thought we were leaving Maxi to be 🤔

Anyway I thought we were leaving Maxi to be 🤔

Jeez no I need to ask Maxi a question...

I was thinking about the hand towel thing in the shower this morning & I reckon I could manage it for my body but what about hair? My hair is quite long & holds water like a sponge so needs wrapping in a bath towel (hangs out the end of a hand towel) which is soaking wet after use or else it'd just drip down my back

SneakyGremlins · 23/02/2019 04:15

Eight flannels?

PirateWeasel · 23/02/2019 06:28

This reminds me of the how often do you shower thread a while back. So much controversy! Variety is the spice of life and all that. It would be very boring if we all lived the same way. For what it's worth, I change bedding once a fortnight, towels when I think they need it, don't have a tumble dryer, only ever wash at 40 unless something is so gross it needs 60...oh and I shower every other day 😂

I can't deny that a clean bed and fresh towels is one of the sweeter and simpler pleasures of life, so to those who choose to wash more I say knock yourselves out FlowersWine

Blackink
There are 3 of us in my household but our 'towel regime' sounds like yours.

I.am astonished at the colour coded towel people, let alone the daily washing ones !!!. Though I am slightly envious of the organisational skills of the former - colour coding towels never occurred to me. Daily washing seems beyond bonkers to me though.

Daily changing of sheets is one step further along the incomprehensible scale to me. Changing my king size fitted sheet, duvet cover and 4 pillows case takes me me around 15 mins or so if you include the time to put it in the wash and get hang up to dry , iron put away etc.

In a week that is an hour and a half of extra work, let alone the amount of waste of energy ( mine and the environment). I'd rather spend that time doing anything else, though I appreciate, I.dont mind sleeping on two week old sheets (which is how often I change mine). When I was younger it was more like every couple.of.months!!

Reporting back as promised.

Operation hand towel went quite well. No hair washing today.
In shower, soap, rinse, get out.
Dry arms, face, legs and front of body, all ok.
Drying back, nearly dislocated my shoulder trying to get towel at correct diagonal angle to reach everything.
Put dh's toweling dressing gown on that mopped up any random drops.

Conclusion- it's do-able, but I prefer my big towel.

Report ended. You're welcome.

greathat · 23/02/2019 10:01

I hope people who wash the towels every day aren't tumble drying them too! The driers just as bad

BusterGonad · 23/02/2019 10:14

I just read the full thread and it's been unreal! Maxi I am not condoning the abuse you've received but also I just couldn't use a hand towel as I feel that is just crazy! Grin

ILoveMaxiBondi · 23/02/2019 12:09

Well done NoIs for giving it a go! Grin of course it’s not for everyone. Just like using a towel several times before washing isn’t for everyone. Neither is bonkers.

whiskey wrt long hair. Mine was waist length until a few months ago and I’ve very thick hair. I squeeze the water out really well in the shower then grab the towel and squeeze again really well. Then dry my face and body and then flip my head over and wrap the towel around my hair and twist it back over the top (I’m guessing that’s what most people do? The wrap twist thing?) yes some hair hung out the bottom but it had been squeezed well so no dripping and it was only for as long as it took me to get dressed (a few minutes) because I would then either blow dry it or brush it out to air dry.

whiskeysourpuss · 23/02/2019 13:24

Thanks for the explanation @ILoveMaxiBondi Smile I might attempt the body thing but I'm leaving my hair in a bath towel... I always get dressed last thing in the mornings otherwise I'd be a hot sweaty mess after blow drying my hair 🙈🤣

NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes · 23/02/2019 18:27

Cheers Maxi anything to help the cause!
Even if I'd washed my hair I could have used a hand towel to dry it as well, as I've not got long hair, so usually I give it a brisk rub with a towel then comb it. Don't have a hairdryer so it just dries on its own. Disclaimer- I've got quite wavy hair so it'll go where it wants, with or without drying it so I just leave it to get on with it. Most people are horrified when I say I've not got a hairdryer!

Biancadelrioisback · 24/02/2019 07:43

NoIs I'm jealous! My hair is poker straight and I use my hairdryer to desperately try and get some volume in there. If I just left it I end up with super fluffy at the end and the top is clinging to my head as if it's scared it'll fall.
Not only do I wash and blow-dry my hair every day, I also use the hand dryer at work before I have any appointments to get back some of the volume that I lost walking outside for 10 minutes on my way in...
In my mind you are living in paradise by not needing a hairdryer

NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes · 24/02/2019 09:57

Thank you Bianca! When I mention I don't have a hairdryer most people think I'm living like the Flintstones.
I wash my hair, clip the fringe down so it goes mostly in the right direction and hope for the best.
I also don't own an umbrella, just put my hood up if it's raining but the number of times I've turned up at work with hair looking like a curl monster!
Regarding hand driers and hair DO NOT try it with a Dyson hand drier thingy. One of our girls did, took ages to comb the knots out, oh how I laughed!
