AIBU to ask you to explain missing ironing board

Hi,

This may seem trivial to some but it has totally freaked me out to the extent I am spending the night with friends. Please help me see reason!

Yesterday, I had a meeting which required a more formal outfit that was nice and crisp. I have an ironing board which is rarely used but ha ALWAYS been placed in the coat cupboard in my corridor by the front door. However, when I went to retrieve it yesterday it was NOWHERE TO BE SEEN. I am disturbed as I can come up with no logical explanation as to why it was missing. The last time I used it was 3 ish weeks ago.

  • I live on my own in C. London
  • My visitors arrive on foot, tube etc
  • I would notice if they walked off with the ironing board- it is 100% not in the flat.
  • Why steal a rarely used ironing board
-I live in a secure building with the concierge (until 7 pm)

AIBU to ask you to please explain this. I'm really unnerved. Am I crazy? What would your natural reaction to this be?

On Christmas Day someone came through my aunties open kitchen door and (only) stole the microwave when they were having their starter. Unfortunately the turkey had been put in there to rest and had been taken with it.

I always got told.... look with your eyes and not with your mouth.

I agree with others. It's either there and been put somewhere which is not it's normal housing so each room needs to be checked fully.

Or you put it outside and someone has made off with it or a scrap metal man has added it to the pile.

gymraes · 24/02/2019 03:38

Lucky you-I'd be beside myself (with joy) if someone/thing stole mine. Worst wedding present I ever received (& No. 3 DS asked if he could have a surf board 'like' mine..!!

I am now envisioning a completely furnished house somewhere, filled with the missing items listed on this thread.

Cecielia Ahern wrote a book about that en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Place_Called_Here

Who joins Mumsnet only to post about a missing ironing board? Hmm

Who joins Mumsnet only to post about a missing ironing board?

The woman that lost the ironing board!

Sandinyourshoes · 24/02/2019 09:28

You have a key code and a physical key? Presumably either will allow entry? I wouldn’t be happy if the key code is just 4 digits. I would be changing it if not done so already. However it sounds like maintenance ppl are officially allowed to enter though, those persons may have inadvertently moved the ib thinking it was an empty flat as it is so tidy? they would not admit it I imagine. Little chance of finding out now the horse has bolted. I would start making some enquiries if possible about security.

As I get older I find I can forget moving things and it’s a longstanding saying when something is lost that I’ve put it “somewhere safe” but this is stretching credibility for an ironing board!

barkinatthemoon · 24/02/2019 09:30

found it yet?

beela · 24/02/2019 09:45

Is it right in front of your face, or in the middle of your bedroom floor? That's usually where things are when my ds loses them.

howhowhow · 24/02/2019 10:06

Have you looked in your car

SneakyGremlins · 24/02/2019 10:06

Are YOU the ironing board?

Could it have a connection with the bloke I saw on the Leeds/London train the other day, I wonder? He was carrying an ironing board... with a double bass cover draped on top. He’d no other luggage that I could see. Could this be similar to those garden gnome abductions, only with ironing boards?

IDoN0tCare · 24/02/2019 10:37

Have you checked behind the curtains, OP?

Doje · 24/02/2019 10:46

OP, did I read that you had a friend / flatmate that moved out (it's a long thread - sorry if it's been explained somewhere) ? Did you use the ironing board after that? Could they have mistakenly taken it?

YouDancin · 25/02/2019 10:14

@Ce7913 how awful! And what a cheeky git!!! Did you move out? Or just change the locks?

ralfeesmum · 25/02/2019 10:34

This ironing board mystery is worthy of Agatha Christie, for sure.

Miss Marple would have sorted it - it would have been the Vicar to blame......

LaurenOrdering · 25/02/2019 15:56

IB is probably in Lost Property at Victoria.

pitterpatterbaby · 25/02/2019 15:59

Not been found yet then?

user1498572889 · 25/02/2019 17:21

Do u have a cleaner?

Jaxinthebox · 25/02/2019 18:12

Oh FFS! Ive read all 18 pages. Still no ironing board...

everydaymum · 25/02/2019 22:42

Seems OP has disappeared into the abyss of lost ironing boards and odd socks.

Nighttimenope · 25/02/2019 22:51

First they came for the ironing board. Then they came for the OP.Shock

everydaymum · 25/02/2019 23:06

'They' might have needed someone to do the ironing.

Awhoosh · 25/02/2019 23:35

@calpop what happened about your holiday with no passport??
