Anyone leaving Labour party with Chuka and his mates?

I am seriously worried. Politics across the West is an utter mess - thanks Putin, nice work - and I can't see that this will help. It will split the left vote and right-wing ideology will continue stomping its way to more power. We are asterisked all ways from hell to breakfast.

@squeezysparklyballs don't bother, people really aren't listening
Rather than go for change they would rather stick with the status quo

squeezysparklyballs · 18/02/2019 20:45

It's not change we need. Nothing is going to improve in this country any time soon.

It's more about damage limitation now.

squeezysparklyballs · 18/02/2019 20:47

It so bloody frustrating!

People are bickering over 'principles' when the country is about to be asset stripped.

Skirmisher · 18/02/2019 20:48

Oh there's a massive amount of shit going on. And most politicians, left and right, seem content to sit back and just watch it happen. So I can't say I'm massively comforted by Labour's promises to mop up the Brexit mess. Any politician worth their salt would be trying to prevent the oncoming catastrophe. Not trying to gain from it.

Skirmisher · 18/02/2019 20:49

the country is about to be asset stripped.

Yes, it's very fucking frustrating isn't it?

squeezysparklyballs · 18/02/2019 20:51

There is enough of the old guard left. Dennis Skinner etc.

People forget that it's a party- not just a leader.

It's old, old Labour we need now. Get back to basics- protect workers rights, health care, education etc

TeacupDrama · 18/02/2019 20:58

I suspect that it was the anti-semitism in the labour party that stopped either of the Milibands being elected
I suspect some would not for them simply because they are Jewish

BartonHollow · 18/02/2019 21:00

I actually think that had David and not Ed been elected to the leadership he would have successfully beaten Cameron in an election

He had 100% more statesman qualities than Ed did.

BishopBrennansArse · 18/02/2019 21:02

@squeezysparklyballs this is what I meant by forget personality politics, it's not about one person, but so many people dismiss an entire party because of one person... it's hideous.
Conservatives don't tend to do this, they put party first.

TalkinPeece · 18/02/2019 21:06

Corbyn has allowed Derek Hatton back into the party.
That will have lost him a LOT of votes from folks my age

Tolleshunt · 18/02/2019 21:07

I completely agree with you about the split vote PostmanPat. Corbyn, McDonnell and Momentum had already split it.

BartonHollow · 18/02/2019 21:09

Very much so RE Hatton

My father, Labour grass roots, hated Hatton, he was a con man.

I was shocked when seeing him interviewed he was in his 70s but so is my father so it makes sense.

He shouldn't be able to do further damage at this point beyond the damage of letting him in

longwayoff · 18/02/2019 21:20

It's pretty desperate. The asset strippers are definitely in and there's not enough old Labour left to remind us of what it was. It's taken 70 years to dismantle most of the achievements of post war Labour. Andromeida, that's an awful experience. I've never met a Momentum member but if they're anything like their earlier version, the stary-eyed fanatics of Militant, then I'm happy to forego that and sorry you've had to endure it. Anyway, as Chuka and friends won't be saving us and JC really isn't the Messiah, I've abandoned most hope. I feel like a character in a 19 century novel just waiting for the Brexit bailiffs to turn up and make off with the last of the teaspoons. No doubt I'll see you all in the pawn shop in the not too distant future. Good night.

I was very interested in this breakaway group until I realised that we don't know who is funding them.

67chevvyimpala · 18/02/2019 21:22

My dad loathed militant.

How can they reinstate him today of ALL days???

Thatsnotmyotter · 18/02/2019 21:26

Tbh weren’t all the MPs who left Tory-Lite types anyway?

I’d love a properly left wing Labour Party.

ShatnersWig · 18/02/2019 21:29

Re-admitting Hatton shows just how ridiculous and unelectable Labour has become. Fucking shit show gets worse daily.

TalkinPeece · 18/02/2019 21:31

Tbh weren’t all the MPs who left Tory-Lite types anyway?
They were near to the centre of the full political spectrum
as are a significant part of the population

I’d love a properly left wing Labour Party.
I'd much rather several parties of all hues and layers

NotAgainSilly · 18/02/2019 21:35

So Luciana is effectively pushed out and Hatton is back in.

Absolutely disgusting.

I imagine that group of 7 is going to grow quite quickly

NotAgainSilly · 18/02/2019 21:35

Tbh weren’t all the MPs who left Tory-Lite types anyway?

No

HTH

Windowsareforcheaters · 18/02/2019 21:43

My exact political views are irrelevant.

The choice in the U.K. is social democrat Labour or Tory.

Realistically under FPTP, with our media, these are the only alternatives. While I would call myself a socialist it is irrelevant and self indulgent to work for a Labour Party that reflects my views.

I want a Labour Party that can gain power and if it isn't a socialist utopia so what at least it's not the Tories.

People call Blair and I disagreed with many of his policies but I disagree more with the Tories and they do more damage. I would have Blair over a Tory in a heartbeat, everyday.

That is you realistic choice.

Skirmisher · 18/02/2019 21:44

Derek Hatton today.

It'll be George Galloway tomorrow.

birdsdestiny · 18/02/2019 21:47

Dennis Skinner. You are joking surely. It would be hilarious if it wasnt so bloody tragic. You know what I am fucking furious. Be good little soldiers and ignore the misogyny and racism because otherwise you are responsible for a tory government. There may be 'principles' that you can ignore to achieve your aim, I certainly can't.

Imperfectsusan · 18/02/2019 21:48

@Shatnerswig
From 12.45
How can it be reasonable for a political party to keep testing the water with the electorate, and keep moving to the right in line with it?

Corbyn may have his faults, but after the previous Cameron win, the Labour Party were lost.. They lacked opinions. I used to listen to them on the radio and think, god, they have no politics at all- anymore-they just keep asking what people seem to want, and then line up with that. It changes from week to week. What about having their own political party position?

PalmTree101 · 18/02/2019 21:56
