Anyone leaving Labour party with Chuka and his mates?

I am seriously worried. Politics across the West is an utter mess - thanks Putin, nice work - and I can't see that this will help. It will split the left vote and right-wing ideology will continue stomping its way to more power. We are asterisked all ways from hell to breakfast.

Because they don't have to. We elect individuals not parties. That is quite clear on the voting slip.

GassyAss · 18/02/2019 14:15

I'm a lifelong Labour voted but resigned my membership months ago. The anti-semitism, JC's attitude to Brexit and the shoddy treatment of women all add up to a party I cannot vote for in its present form.
I can't believe it's taken MPs this long to do the same.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 14:16

unless something more moderate is presented to the uk electorate then the Tories will keep on winning

I repeat, it was, Ed Milliband, he lost also

ShatnersWig · 18/02/2019 14:17

@JustAnotherPoster00 And I repeat, for the third time, there is a very clear and obvious reason Miliband also lost.

It's called being ineffective and indecisive. Two traits he shares with Corbyn. He took years to actually come out with any sodding policies!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 14:21

It's called being ineffective

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day Grin

For me it was mainly bout the manifesto for once it was 1 I could happily get behind because I'm disabled and I'm currently getting fucked over, I voted for Milliband but the 'were not nearly as bad as the tories' vibe didnt really fill me with confidence

BelleSausage · 18/02/2019 14:23

Corbyn should have trashed the Conservatives in the last election and he failed to. Failed.

Anyone who thinks he will win an election can’t count. All that will happen is that fewer people will vote because there is no one to vote for. Conservative voters are more consistent voters than Labour voter, who often don’t bother to vote if it is raining. A low turn out ensures a Con win.

MsTSwift · 18/02/2019 14:23

Hopefully they can form a sane centrist party that represents remainers if so I’m in

Stopwoofing · 18/02/2019 14:25

yes Miliband is still backing the wrong horse (Corbyn), he has no political sense. Join the labour party and change it? Ha - any joiners are taken to be a sign of enthusiastic support for JC. And aren't a lot of grass roots labour pro the people's vote? Their membership hasn't got them very far so far...

And aren't a lot of grass roots labour pro the people's vote

Yep, as some of us have already posted up thread, the Labour conference of grass roots members overwhelming want and called for a PV. Yet the leadership have gone from saying "no" to "we've not ruled it out" to "it's still a possible last resort". So, no, they don't care about what their own members want, which is why they aren't electable.

MissEliza · 18/02/2019 14:30

Sorry Ed Milliband is not considered moderate to many. David yes. The UK would be a very different place if Ed the arrogant arse hadn't decided to run against his more able and electable brother.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 14:31

Join the labour party and change it?

There has been some change, their stand on benefits and austerity were under milliband they would abstain, they have to some degree shifted the overton window slightly left but we have the swivel eyed loons like the ERG dragging it heavily to the right

PinkPupZ · 18/02/2019 14:31

No way let the authoritarians go their own way good riddance

ShatnersWig · 18/02/2019 14:32

@MissEliza Or alternatively, had the members and unions not voted more for Ed than his brother.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 14:34

And at the time Ed was to the left of David so the want for more leftyness (I dont think thats a word sorry) was there to some degree

1moreglassplease · 18/02/2019 14:34

Not surprised to see that my MP is one of the seven. We are a constituency that is solidly Labour and he's been a very effective MP but is not a Corbynista, so Momentum launched a campaign to have him deselected last year.

Like so many on here I'm a life-long Labour voter but from the moment Corbyn became leader I became party-less so will watch with interest what happens here.

itwaseverthus · 18/02/2019 14:35

What's Putin got to do with it? The Labour party managed to cause this all by itself, with the gender debate being silenced and the horrific antisemitism. Couldn't organise a sleep in a morphine factory.

BelleSausage · 18/02/2019 14:37

There is a lot of speculation that this is the first move to create a bigger centrist party with the help of some old labour donors who are disenchanted with Corbyn. We shall see.

why100000 · 18/02/2019 14:38

Don’t know if this has been mentioned, but am reading on Facebook that the 7 have registered themselves as a company in order not to have to declare where they get their funding from.

So I am thinking Tony Blair must be a backer? Who else? Who would they want to hide?

I am so sick of the two party undemocratic system, that I don’t think I actually care who backs them - up to a point anyway. I just want more to join them.

KissingInTheRain · 18/02/2019 14:39

There’s something in that, but the difference between the cult of Toryism and the cult of Corbyn is that the Tories don’t have a vile army of bullies....spewing bile online.

Never read the comments on the DM or DE sites then?

And the relevance of there being plenty of horrible right wing readers of the Mail and Express is what exactly?

This has nothing to do with the membership of the Corbyn Labour Party and its substantial minority of bullies and anti-Semites agitating to deselect decent MPs.

Perhaps you’re saying that Corbynistas are no different from hate-filled right wing headbangers?

Alsohuman · 18/02/2019 14:39

@itwaseverthus,brilliant analogy, I shall use that.

Joining the Labour Party and change from within is the sickest of sick jokes. The impossibility of that is why I left the Labour Party. I just want a party I can vote for that has a chance of ruling the country. There isn’t one now which is why I voted Green last time, no hope of victory but at least I could live with myself afterwards.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 14:46

This has nothing to do with the membership of the Corbyn Labour Party and its substantial minority of bullies and anti-Semites agitating to deselect decent MPs.

Is there a way of determining if some is an actual member of a party?
just saying 'I'm a labour party member and I hate all...' isnt going to stop my critical thinking skills from working

Walkingdeadfangirl · 18/02/2019 14:48

Can't see any reason why any Conservative MP would join a splinter Labour party. I mean why would they, as much as they might disagree with TM they will never join a Blairite group, they are not that stupid?

I have a sneaking feeling that today's events will just get Brexit over the line.

Stopwoofing · 18/02/2019 14:51

how will it help get Brexit over the line? Because the labour party under Corbyn is so united against Brexit (hollow laugh). I can't see that at all. Corbyn not giving anyone hope by backing a people's vote, if anything, that is pushing the situation along on brexit.

Stopwoofing · 18/02/2019 14:52

it's not just a splinter lab group - the lib dems have already said they'll work with them. It has some potential.
