to think it should be ok to post on Brexit outside the Brexit forum?

Whenever anyone posts anything about Brexit, there is a cry of "there is a brexit forum". Strangely you never hear it about 99% of the other threads in here which could be moved somewhere else (Style and Beauty, Baby Names, relationships, books, etc).

I could have understood the objection to posting on Brexit elsewhere maybe 12 months ago, but we are in the midst of arguably the biggest political crises in a generation, and perhaps longer, which enormous ramifications, whether you support or oppose Brexit.

People can make a decision which threads they read if they want to, as Brexit threads are hardly well disguised.

So, AIBU?

I think it's because some people hide the Brexit forum so get annoyed when threads keep cropping up Grin

Well that's what I would feel if I could figure out how to hide it

AmIAWeed · 18/02/2019 08:47

Yes, I'm fed up of reading about Brexit and other topics so have these hidden from my feed.
You have your opinions, I have mine - yet rarely can this subject be debated without it becoming a slagging match about stupid leaver's.

bellinisurge · 18/02/2019 08:47

Can I open a sweep on how soon this will be moved?

FriarTuck · 18/02/2019 08:48

YABU. Personally I get really fed up with seeing Baby Name posts on AIBU and questions on what people thing about a cooking gadget - Chat people, take them to Chat!!! AIBU should be for genuine AIBU questions, not 'AIBU to ask you for baby names'.
(Sorry!)

ValleyoftheHorses · 18/02/2019 08:48

I think it’s like the Christmas board. If you post about Christmas in July, it should be moved to the Christmas board. If you post about it in December it’s ok wherever as it’s topical.
I think now Brexit is so close and will affect all our lives, it should be ok wherever.

AuntieStella · 18/02/2019 08:48

I don't want to see Brexit threads all over the other topics.

The Brexit topic is well used, easy to find, and the most posted-on threads pop up in Active frequently.

I'd like to see all the topics used more, not less

Papillon45 · 18/02/2019 08:53

YANBU we are getting so close to Brexit date now that I don’t think discussion about it should be shut away in a specific forum. If you don’t want to read about Brexit there’s nothing stopping you not opening the thread (I haven’t seen one yet that hasn’t clearly stated what it’s about in its title)

slipperywhensparticus · 18/02/2019 08:54

It has Brexit in the title I see no issues with it i can avoid it if need be

GlitterStick · 18/02/2019 08:55

YABU

and this

Yes, I'm fed up of reading about Brexit and other topics so have these hidden from my feed. rarely can this subject be debated without it becoming a slagging match about stupid leaver's

JellyBook · 18/02/2019 08:56

But if you’re happy to talk and read about Brexit then I don’t understand why you wouldn’t post in the Brexit topic where, you know, there are other people happy to talk and post about it

MuseumofInnocence · 18/02/2019 08:56

This thread isn't intended to be about Brexit, but rather if and where it's appropriate to discuss it.

Sureyouwill · 18/02/2019 08:57

Brexit, as an observer and reader is an utterly tedious subject. There is nothing we can do about it! That ship has sailed! If you want to debate it, go to the Brexit forum. Nothing is going to change! Stop banging on about it! It's too fucking late!

MuseumofInnocence · 18/02/2019 08:58

But if you’re happy to talk and read about Brexit then I don’t understand why you wouldn’t post in the Brexit topic where, you know, there are other people happy to talk and post about it

Why does Brexit elicit that response in the way other threads do?

Right now, everything is changing! That's the point. I agree if we were discussing the results of the 1983 General Election (AIBU to think it was mistake for the Labour Manifesto to commit to nuclear disarmament?)

“Why does Brexit elicit that response in the way other threads do?”

Tbf if someone asked the same question about posting outside baby names, feminism, royal weddings, Trump etc I think I would respond in the same way. - why not go to the specific place where you know other people are happy to chat about a particular subject, rather than be miffed that others are reluctant to.

continuallychargingmyphone · 18/02/2019 09:10

I think it dates back to when Brexit took over the boards in June 2016.

MuseumofInnocence · 18/02/2019 09:13

Why does Brexit elicit that response in the way other threads do?

That should have been "Why does Brexit elicit that response in the way other threads don't?"

Tbf if someone asked the same question about posting outside baby names, feminism, royal weddings, Trump etc I think I would respond in the same way

In practice, people don't though.

Why on earth does it matter if you see a thread about Brexit.

Just don’t open it, it’s not rocket science.

There’s several topics that don’t interest me, so I don’t open the threads. I don’t expect AIBU to be tailored to my needs. It’s Mumsnet, not JacquesHammerNet

RosemarysBush · 18/02/2019 09:20

I don’t think all Brexit threads should be hidden at this moment in time. It’s so current and important that we shouldn’t just pretend it doesn’t exist.

JacquesHammer · 18/02/2019 09:20

AIBU should be for genuine AIBU questions

See I wouldn’t necessarily see that as an issue if MNHQ were consistent. But they’re not.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 18/02/2019 09:24

You'd have to live a very sheltered life to avoid Brexit - it will be the main topic of discussion everywhere for at least a decade.

I suspect those that want the threads hidden do not want reminding that they have made an almighty balls up.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/02/2019 09:25

Yanbu. People can ignore it if they want.
The amount of crap that’s posted in chat and AIBU instead of the relevant section is enormous and hardly any ever says anything.

SilverySurfer · 18/02/2019 09:31

YABU - it has all been regurgitated a thousand times, most Brexit threads are whine fests for remainers - best on the Brexit Board where they can all cry together.

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/02/2019 09:32

I personally could careless where people post, but if you are going to post about brexit, put it in the fucking title and don't try to get people to open it with clock bait.

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/02/2019 09:33

I suspect those that want the threads hidden do not want reminding that they have made an almighty balls up.

Or they could just be fed up of the doomsayers professing to have more information than anyone else.
