to think it should be ok to post on Brexit outside the Brexit forum?

Whenever anyone posts anything about Brexit, there is a cry of "there is a brexit forum". Strangely you never hear it about 99% of the other threads in here which could be moved somewhere else (Style and Beauty, Baby Names, relationships, books, etc).

I could have understood the objection to posting on Brexit elsewhere maybe 12 months ago, but we are in the midst of arguably the biggest political crises in a generation, and perhaps longer, which enormous ramifications, whether you support or oppose Brexit.

People can make a decision which threads they read if they want to, as Brexit threads are hardly well disguised.

So, AIBU?

All of which are discused on the Westminsensers threads in the fucking BREXIT section.

So chat away with like minded people on the brexit board.

But again, why is Brexit the only topic where this matters?

Trying to force yourself on the uninterested is a bit desperate no?

If I'm knocking on your door to discuss Brexit, I'm forcing it on you. If it's one of many threads on a discussion forum, I don't how it is forcing you to read it.

brexiteers find brexit very boring-

irish border, job losses, food and medicine supplies- BORING.

surferjet · 18/02/2019 14:13

Maybe it’s the remainers I find boring not the subject - talking to the same people about the same thing gets very very boring.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/02/2019 14:18

trying to force yourself on the uninterested is a bit desperate no

Isnt that the point of most threads

Then the interested people will read the thread

DontMakeMeShushYou · 18/02/2019 14:18

Perfectly summed up in a nutshell. Obviously it would be silly to only post about Brexit on the Brexit thread since that would mean talking to the same people about the same things. Much better to post on whichever board seems the most appropriate at the time. OP, YANBU!

If you are surrounded as I am (outside my family- mostly) by Leavers, it's reassuring to see that not everyone thinks this way.

MuseumofInnocence · 18/02/2019 14:20

I think this comes down to MN's approach about the use of forums. Are the choice of topics

a) Optional - you may get better answers in certain forums
b) Mandatory - posts must be quarantined to certain areas

I checked out the MN talk guidelines, and there is nothing to suggest that topic choice is mandatory, and in practice, even if it were, it's not enforced. I therefore assume it is the former. Therefore, if one wants to post a thread that fits in Chat, I don't see why it can't go there. I stand to be corrected.

yes, dontmakemeshush.

and yet you continue to feel compelled to post, surfer.

SpringForEver · 18/02/2019 14:22

I don't want to be confronted with Brexit. I hide the threads because it depresses hell out of me and I am worried sick. I want a break from it so I read the NON BREXIT topics.

If you want to post about Brexit then sod off and go to the Brexit topic, which is what it is there for.

surferjet · 18/02/2019 14:26

Op: start a thread about brexit on chat or aibu. Ask whatever questions you want.
If HQ get enough reports about it they’ll move it ( I won’t be reporting! ) tbh I’ve seen plenty of brexit related threads outside of the brexit board, not sure how long they last before they get moved but long enough to get people interested. Then it doesn’t matter where the thread ends up because the people you’re trying to attract are already on the thread.

JacquesHammer · 18/02/2019 15:52

Maybe it’s the remainers I find boring not the subject - talking to the same people about the same thing gets very very boring

And yet....you keep on doing it.

More fool you Grin

badlydrawnperson · 18/02/2019 16:06

MNHQ told me they won't move anything to the Brexit board (no matter how Brexity) unless the OP reports it.

MuseumofInnocence · 18/02/2019 16:17

MNHQ told me they won't move anything to the Brexit board (no matter how Brexity) unless the OP reports it.

Is that a first then? MN have resolved the AIBU for me to say IANBU!

I think this thread itself is broadly an etiquette question that does fit into this topic, but the way I see it, and it does seems confirmed, is that if an OP feels it is appropriate to post in Chat or AIBU or somewhere else, they can do so, even if it is somehow related to Brexit. People are entitled to read or ignore if they desire. I do feel the Brexit forum is the best place for in depth analysis of the daily machinations in parliament or in Brussels, however.

@MuseumofInnocence I think you are correct by the looks of it
