I've been lurking on these threads for about 2 years (how has it gone on this long?) but I'm a bit cautious about Cohen's testimony, it seemed like he said everything we wanted him to say. It seemed like an act to me. Is it a bit too 'conspiracy theory' to think he's leading the democrats up the garden path to discredit them?

The Dems are going to look for proof or corroboration of anything Cohen has said before they take any concrete steps based on his statements. There were any number of times he was asked if he could provide proof of his allegations or if there were other people who were party to the alleged conversations he reported. And I think Cohen knows that all hell will rain down on his head if the House Cmte learns that he was leading them up a garden path. Lying to Congress is a federal crime.

I am like notmary, Across, in that I am wary of such Damascene conversions. They have the tapes etc etc though. That would inform his thoughts.

It certainly wouldn't be too conspiracy theory to think Cohen's keeping things back, to minimise his own problems.

Leading up the garden path? Mm, trying to think. From what I remember of his testimony, it was mostly fleshing out areas where there's already other evidence. Plus he provided additional evidence. Eg the payments to Stormy Daniels.

Where Cohen made what I think were new allegations, eg about the call from Roger Stone about Wikileaks/Julian Assange, IIRC Cohen named other people who would be witnesses to this and can be questioned in turn. So, accessible to verification.

Thus far I can't remember anything that's departed very far from the well-trodden highway (although I didn't see the testimony to the end).

That doesn't in itself mean that Cohen is telling the truth. But it doesn't really support a conspiracy theory that Cohen's trying to lead Democrats up some garden path.

(As an aside, I don't get why there is a constant refrain that it discredits Democrats/anti-Trumpers if they investigate something that the investigation then shows is untrue. That's what investigations are for. Meanwhile Fox News boosted by Trumpie bots actively spun the murder of Seth Rich into some immense, long-running media story with paid pundits claiming all sorts – whole thing was pure conspiracy theory and Rich's family begged them to stop. Does this affect the credibility of Fox News in the minds of its viewers? At all? They don't seem too bothered...)

And indeed, he's already committed the federal crime of lying to Congress, on his previous appearance!

We shall see what the hunt for corroboration turns up.

I agree, cozie, this isn't a Damascene Conversion. Probably more of an 'Oh fuck, how do I get out of this?'. But even if he did it out of pure spite against Scrotus or to get a sweet deal for himself, I do think he was telling the truth. Could he have been 'obscuring' some of his own complicity? Possibly.

I think most of the things he said are unfortunately not going to be absolutely provable. Most of the conversations he's reported are going to be 'yes you did'/'no I didn't' unless more that one person involved comes forward to corroborate. Even the copies of checks; all Scrotus et al have to say is that they were payment for legal services, not repayment for Stormy payoff. I don't know how either can be proven/disproven.

With Nixon we had tapes, with B Clinton we had, ahem, the blue dress. Irrefutable proof of wrong doing. With Scrotus we don't (yet) have the smoking gun. But it's entirely possible that what he's said may be (or lead to) a thread to add to the tapestry that Mueller is already weaving.

Apart from the fact Jr. is attempting to change the subject, you’d think these people (not “aliens”) deserve some care and sympathy - some common humanity, actually. They are obviously trying to escape even more horrendous where they came from to willing put themselves through such an ordeal, and now Donald Trump Jr. seeks to use them as a distraction without a shred of a soul about him.

Roussette, something about her voice, more her intonation than the voice itself, reminds me of Veruca Salt in the original Willy Wonka movie. Maybe it's because both their voices project a huge sense of entitlement. Sort of a "Don't you know who I AM?!?" thing.

I WON'T be watching, Lweji. Merely the sight of Hannity makes me hyperventilate with rage. The combo of the two of them would probably give me an apoplexy.

DH is going skiing for the day at Tahoe and probably won't be home until tomorrow. I plan to leave the TV off other than Netflix, Amazon, etc. Between streaming video, MN, and the bag of Cadbury mini eggs I have hidden I plan to have a full day of de-stressing. On top of that, DS2 is bringing home my favourite takeaway and we're going to watch Legion together.

Wow, just revealed that Michael Cohen wrote a “love letter to Trump” manuscript for a new book that he was pushing. Written and submitted long after Charlottesville and Helsinki, his phony reasons for going rogue. Book is exact opposite of his fake testimony, which now is a lie!

And there then follows another 5 tweets from him , each more indecipherable and ranting than the last. Not worth linking as they sound like they've been tweeted by a mad man.
