To give dd a bottle of Prosecco

DD is 15 tmrw and has a friend coming round tonight to celebrate before we go away for a few days tomorrow.

She's asked for a bottle of Prosecco for them to share, to celebrate.

Would you let her?

This is not the right place to ask this question OP.

The average mumsnet poster is the bastard offspring of Mary Whitehouse and Hyacinth Bucket.

Or Asti

Yogagirl123 · 17/02/2019 19:44

No way.

Houseonahill · 17/02/2019 19:45

hairyporker you just won mumsnet 😂

Spotsandstars · 17/02/2019 19:46

No

GregoryPeckingDuck · 17/02/2019 19:46

Um no. I would either give my child a glass of sonething nice or nothing at all. Do you really think letting her get drunk on cheap alcohol is sending a good message?

NChangeForNoReason · 17/02/2019 19:47

Yes - no issue with it!!

Wouldn't have bothered asking here though Wink

deadsexy · 17/02/2019 19:47

I would, they ar safe and under your roof x

Auntiepatricia · 17/02/2019 19:49

Jesus no. You’re talking about a child who was 14 the day before. Half a bottle of Prosecco!

Auntiepatricia · 17/02/2019 19:50

And if you gave my 14/15 yr old half a bottle of Prosecco you’d get a serious bollocking from me.

Ellapaella · 17/02/2019 19:52

My son is 16. At 15 I let him have the odd bottle of cider or lager to take to a party. I also let him have a glass of Prosecco with at family occasions/celebrations etc.

Personally I would say yes to what your are asking asking as long as the other girls parents are aware and happy with it. I think a mini bottle of Prosecco each is a good compromise.

I agree that Mumsnet is not the best place to ask this question. This is the sort of thing I'd ask my friends to be honest, you'll get a much more balanced view.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 17/02/2019 19:52

Probably not a whole bottle, they'll end up with at least a headache if they drink it all. Probably a glass each. Definitely don't believe in banning alcohol and making it taboo so not unreasonable for allowing them to have some

Seaseasea · 17/02/2019 19:52

Spot on hairyporker Grin

ComeOnGordon · 17/02/2019 19:52

I live somewhere with a slightly more relaxed opinion of teenagers drinking & even I wouldn’t have given 2 15 year olds a whole bottle of Prosecco to share. A glass each is way more than enough

dreamyflower · 17/02/2019 19:53

Mini bottle each? With some raspberries to make the glass look special?

AlwaysSomethingThere · 17/02/2019 19:54

Prosecco gets me wrecked 🤭

Abouttime1978 · 17/02/2019 19:54

Seriously?!

The answers on here make me laugh.

At 14 I was lying and going out clubbing.

My mum allowed the odd glass from secondary school (usually Buck's Fizz at Christmas).

I was the kids at 15 who had a (small) archers and lemonade and refused to drink white lightning because I didn't like the taste.

At 15 she is 12 months away from a Gretna green wedding if she wants one.

Keeping the channels of communication open is so important now. She needs to know she can come back to you if she's concerned. Not feel like she's going to he told off.

I agree with other one the premixed Bellini though. It's sweet, nicer tasting for 15 year old palettes and less alcohol.

If she is insistent on prosecco then buy two mini bottles. You are limiting the consumption without making it obvious.

Xx

Gooseygoosey12345 · 17/02/2019 19:55

I often took a bottle of wine with me to a friends house at that age, we'd rarely drink the bottle between us. Depends how mature they are and if they've been allowed alcohol before. My parents never made it taboo and we'd been allowed a small glass of wine or a shandy if we wanted before that. I've never abused alcohol and don't actually drink at all now, my sister is the same. I think it did us good to allow us to have that responsibility.

ShowMeTheKittens · 17/02/2019 19:58

I used get pissed as a fart at 15. I think it is not advisable from my own experience.

ooooohbetty · 17/02/2019 19:59

A small glass each. And that's it. Can't even think why you think a whole bottle is a good idea?

AlexaAmbidextra · 17/02/2019 20:01

I would. Better they're sharing a bottle of prosecco at home, than swigging cheap vodka from the bottle in the park

Exaggeration much? 🙄

lottiegarbanzo · 17/02/2019 20:01

God no. Where's the fun in illicit off-license visits for a sneaky bottle of Woodpecker, drunk 'secretly' in the park, if your parents are offering you the alcoholic tiddlyness-inducing equivalent, plainly and openly at home? Shock

(You'll need to ramp it up to class-As fast girls, if it's independence, insouciance and that teeny teenage edge of danger you're after).

bobstersmum · 17/02/2019 20:02

How about a mini bottle each? I was sneaking off to go round town at 14 drinking cider and black, so I think drinking a small amount under adult supervision is better!

Skirmisher · 17/02/2019 20:02

I'd give them a glass of prosecco or a bottle of that 4% Bucks Fizz stuff.
