Sorry, I just can’t do it.

But Ken is the best thing about R2

So true. Scared he'll go soon too. I like Zoe but the music is dire. She really needs to find her feet and discuss the playlist before it's her downfall

Theunreasonableone · 15/02/2019 08:32

I’ve also followed Chris. I’d have liked Sara Cox to have taken over. My mum and dad (in their 80’s) have just bought a digital radio to switch back to Chris Evans

Kahlua4me · 15/02/2019 08:32

I have tried to listen to Zoe but can’t so have followed Chris Evans. I like his mix in the mornings.

TooLittleTooLate80 · 15/02/2019 08:39

I'm liking Zoe Ball more than I thought I would. Decided not to follow Chris Evans as he was getting way too chatty (mainly about himself). I think there's been an noticeable shift with regards to the era that most of the songs come from which suits me a bit more as well.

Loving Sara Cox (as I knew I would) but her "5:40 listener slots" really aren't working for me.

LifeCasting · 15/02/2019 08:41

Very glad Chris Evans has gone but I can’t pretend that Zoe B has been very new. It’s all dull and uninspiring. Time for new flesh. I like Classic FM these days. Less shouty. Allen Carr is making me cringe right now. Voice like a foghorn. Urgh.

Disfordarkchocolate · 15/02/2019 08:54

Loving today's show with Alan Carr and Sandi Toksvig. Both naturally funny but in different ways. And Gabrielle, amazing.

Bh2579 · 15/02/2019 08:59

Can't do Zoe Ball. Too loud and "frenetic" as pp said. Followed Chris to Virgin. Liking Sara Cox but not the 5.40 slot.

Recommend Chris' recent interview with Reverend Ruth.

bigdecisionstomake · 15/02/2019 09:03

YANBU I really wanted Sara Cox to take over breakfast but was determined to give Zoe a good go - girl power and all that. Over time however I am switching more and more to Radio 4 - Zoe is a bit too frenetic and I can't bear the fact she talks over the interviewees all the time. Once or twice she's had a really interesting guest on but she's hardly given them the chance to get going and if they start an interesting story she keeps butting in and I turn over in frustration. Sara Cox doing a good job on drive time though, I am one of the minority that didn't really care for Simon Mayo so am now a firm Radio 2 listener in this slot instead.

lovefriday · 15/02/2019 09:32

Zoe's programme is nice and light-hearted which I like in the mornings.

I switch from the Today programme when the smugness gets a bit much or when 'Thought for the Day' comes on - it's too religious disguised as not religious. Ugh!

Loved Zoe's Sandy Toksvig bit this morning, she's a very very funny lady. Liked the Alan Carr section though I thought he could have had a bit more airtime.

Sara Cox - always makes me smile, she can come over anytime.

lottielady · 15/02/2019 09:38

Apart from Sir Terry, whose show was the best radio show I’ve ever heard, bar none, I really liked Shaun Keaveny in the mornings, on 6music.

He’s gone now Sad

Chris Evans was a self-satisfied twat, desperately shoving his showbiz mates down our throats in the mistaken belief they were still cool (Texas, anyone? Thought not).

His ‘banter’ always had a whiff of bullying about it, too, which I found off-putting.

I’ve kind of stopped listening to morning radio now. Sorry Zoe. Relentless positivity doesn’t match my morning mood. I like a whiff of grumpiness and a touch of cynicism. Too much ‘ace face’, ‘gorgeous girl’ and ‘these monkeys’ for me. Ick.

Beansandcoffee · 15/02/2019 09:40

I like her. It is calm but interesting.

Nnnnnineteen · 15/02/2019 09:42

Tried her, can't do it, she's bloody awful.
And how can so many people like ken Bruce??? He's so fucking boring and his attempts at humour are cringe worthy. R2 is pretty much a no go are now, apart from no wiley and Jamie cullum in the week and Johnny and clare teal on Sunday.

lottielady · 15/02/2019 09:45

I don’t mind Ken Bruce, but he does tend towards making lavatorial jokes which puts me off. And the music is laughable.

Love Popmaster though!

Alconleigh · 15/02/2019 10:07

Radio 6 all the way for me. Chris Hawkins then Lauren Laverne takes over at 7.30. I find the 'zoo' style shows sound very dated now, and the music on radio 2 is very bland.

Oblomov19 · 15/02/2019 10:20

Can't listen to her. Find her painful. Not that anyone else is any better!!

SmarmyMrMime · 15/02/2019 10:33

I love Ken Bruce. A little light banter, a few intelligent features. A lot of varied music. It's an underrated format.

I have put Zoe Ball on for the sake of filling silence, but she is far too waffly and breathy to focus on. Too try hard. Not a good interviewer.

Sara Cox is better and has grown on me over the last couple of years. Not a patch on Simon Mayo though.

Jo Wiley is back to her more natural position, and her show is better for the 7pm time slot than the gap that was created by the specialist shows. Picking up some cultural features from Simon Mayo has worked.

I like Trevor Nelson, clear to listen to. Not quite my taste in music, but it is appropriate to the station audience.

I'm finding current playlists too contemporary and playing too many banal current pop artists because they're there rather than out of great talent and a good fit for the audience. I'm only just in the target audience range (after decades of listening) but I want a broad range of music from the 50s onwards, including a smattering of new talent. Brilliant music that has stood the test of time over decades is currently being neglected.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/02/2019 11:34

I listen in the car to and from work, so I'm catching the end of Vanessa (I like) and about 45 mins of Zoe; I am not enamoured. Crap music, waffle, too fast gabbling and the fake terms of endearment to people are beginning to grate. I wish Sara Cox had got it. I like her evening show except for the 5.40 thing.

No DAB in the car and BBC Radio Cumbria is not good first thing. Might have to go Radio 4 or.... Smooth because the music is older (less Ariana Grande for me.. Wahoo!)

Jaspermcsween · 15/02/2019 12:18

ZB needs to ask her guests ONE FUCKING QUESTION

THEN SHUT UP AND LET THEM ANSWER.

Sorry , don't usually swear.

And YES to Chris Evans' banter being bullying. And couldn't stand him bringing his posh kids in to actually speak on the show.

Ken is a radio god. Whenever he has a replacement you realise how good he is at popmastet. No one also can really do it.

I agree with a previous poster.

Danny Baker is a genius.

I used to listen to him on BBC Radio London.

whoamitojudge · 15/02/2019 12:48

Sorry but for me it has to be Greg James on Radio One

Heatherjayne1972 · 15/02/2019 12:55

Zoe ball and Sarah cox should swap shows. Sarah is much better in the breakfast slot
And What’s with the constant sharp intake of breath thing that Zoe does? It’s very unpleasant

cardibach · 15/02/2019 12:59

I like Zoe Ball, but I can’t get on with her breakfast show. I’ve gone to Virgin. Sara Cox I cant stand at any price at any time and Liza Tarbuck is worse. Fake, childish silliness from both. I don’t have a commute anymore and it’s a big relief as I don’t know what I would do with myself! I just listen to the radio in the mornings as I get up now.

PlatypusPie · 15/02/2019 14:17

Thanks to this thread I’ve discovered that our new car ( same model as before) has easy to programme presets , rather than baffling tree of stages in the old car , and have now set Virgin for the morning drive. Bye Zoe !

TwitterQueen1 · 15/02/2019 14:25

Ken is a radio god

Yes OP. On this there can be no disagreement or even discussion. Smile

ladymariner · 15/02/2019 14:28

Can't do Zoe now, I listen to local radio, 5live of my iPod. Loving Sara Cox, she's just joyful, even though I wasn't expecting to.
