To only have £100 until 28th Feb

As the thread title says, I only have £100 until the 28th of February, when I get paid. I've paid all my bills, rent and travel for this month - the only thing I need to buy is about five more days worth of food (I have a load stocked up from a big shop earlier in the month, so I'm pretty much okay on that front). I live in London with my DP and we have no DC.

AIBU to think the next two weeks will be a struggle and also extremely boring?

OP posts:

Youbumder No an adult on benefits gets £73.10 a week plus housing benefit and council tax. She would have way less than £6 a day disposable income on benefits.

PurpleDaisies · 12/02/2019 21:39

We could all PayPal you a quid to help you struggle through these dark times

I can’t tell if this is sarcastic or not. I hope it is....

babysharkah · 12/02/2019 21:41

How bizarre that this descended into competitive poverty.

YouBumder · 12/02/2019 21:43

Yes I know that Claire, sorry. I meant that given the OP has a job she’s perhaps not unreasonably entitled to expect more than she would be if she was on benefits.

Woolyheads · 12/02/2019 21:44

Yay! party!

Eliza9917 · 12/02/2019 21:45

I get paid weekly and I get worried if I've only got £100 by Monday to last til Friday morning Blush

I have £140.... no money on the gas or electric and my MOT is on Friday. Our half term is going to suck but we will be fed and are planning lots of pj days, walks in the woods, £2 cinema and the local leisure centre is doing £3 gym sessions for the teenagers.
Planning on spending £7 on ‘activities’ in total for the 2 of us (less if I can help it!).

LeadMeToTheChocolate · 12/02/2019 21:50

£140 til the 28th.... praying to the MOT gods!!

WinterfellWench · 12/02/2019 21:54

FFS, don't get offering the OP money! (Like a few people have suggested.)

WinterfellWench · 12/02/2019 21:55

@BIWI I noticed that too.

BadLad · 12/02/2019 22:03

Could you take in ironing? Or move somewhere cheaper?

Butchyrestingface · 12/02/2019 22:07

Could you take in ironing? Or move somewhere cheaper?

Or do a nice wee course in floristry?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/02/2019 22:08

I hear Childminding is a quick and easy way to earn some money.

londonrach · 12/02/2019 22:11

Thats alot op. It came be done. As long as bills been paid. Whats in you cupboard. If working make sandwiches and just buy basics...bread, milk, meat, fruit, veg, pasta. Dh and i had £0 one week and were shocked what meals we made from the cupboard. Dmil and fil were shocked but that week was kinda fun. Not everything worked but at least we emptied the cupboard. Have a go with four, five items from your cupboard. Meal from nothing! X

JasperKarat · 12/02/2019 22:16

Why does MN become a poverty competition? £100 for two and a bit weeks for two people including food is not a huge amount of money especially in London where a coffee is the best part of a fiver, but there will always be those who say they live on 42p a week and a magic chicken does them and nine others for seven meals. FFS it is not a race to the bottom.

Check out timeout op there might be a free or cheap exhibition or something to do, maybe a good chance to get into a couch to five it or just hibernate with Netflix. We've done a couple of walking tours one about Street art and a jack the ripper one, both good and cheap. Get your food first and see what you have left to play with

BlitheringIdiots · 12/02/2019 22:16

We spend about £60 for food etc for a week for three of us and a pet. Easy peasy OP

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 12/02/2019 22:17

I have £140 left till then and I have 2 dc! We have a party in a week, I need to do a shop for more school lunches etc and start shopping for DP birthday, bet I still have a bit left by then.

Good one.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 12/02/2019 23:30

Such a lot of competitive poverty on this thread! 100 quid isn't a huge amount. Just because some of you have tuppence ha'penny to last you for the next year, there's no need to be quite so bitter because someone has a little bit more than you!

sassysec · 12/02/2019 23:53

I do think this is a goady post - as in after all bills are paid and food shop relying on £100 till the end of the month 'to me' is bad,

It's a paltry amount to me - And yes i'd be 'bored' etc..what I do realise it's that this is a massively goady post- there are people who are visiting food bank because they can't feed their children - surviving on 100 after your bills and food are paid? Thankfully not in that camp but absolutely empathise with those who are

PickAChew · 12/02/2019 23:57

Bloody hell, the two of you could eat 8oz sirloin steaks and imported asparagus every day for 5 days, with £100.

PickAChew · 13/02/2019 00:14

And, yes, a quick advanced search suggests that OP is actually in search of a dp.

QwertyLou · 13/02/2019 00:59

I’m not sure of the point of the OP, unless it’s to solicit donations? Am I being too cynical.

OP most OP (haha) shops have toys and games for almost nothing. Or (depending how old your DC are) my 4yo’s favourite game at the moment is “Fish.” We both lie on the floor, pretending to be fish. Don’t ask me why but he loves it, and it’s free!
