To ask whether you’d wear your wedding dress to the party?

If you were going away to get married, just you and partner (second wedding, both have children from previous relationships), and having a “reception” afterwards when returned, would you wear the dress again? Or would that look really odd?

Not unless it was a dress I'd worn on other occasions since.

CathyTre · 12/02/2019 15:07

Nope, it’s unmistakably a wedding dressy sort of dress!

Yes I would, people will probably want to see it and you will want to make the most of it!

Crockof · 12/02/2019 15:08

Yes most definitely. It's a wedding party.

AnythingConsidered · 12/02/2019 15:09

If you mean wear the wedding dress you get married in, to the reception celebrating the wedding, then yes I would.

People will like seeing it, it's what would happen at a 'standard' wedding, just a few weeks apart!!

Mamaofdrama · 12/02/2019 15:09

I did! Did look strange at all!

Mamaofdrama · 12/02/2019 15:09

didnt Grin

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 12/02/2019 15:10

Surely it depends on the style of the dress?

FairyMoppings · 12/02/2019 15:10

Yes, of course. I went to reception of a couple who married quietly abroad then had a party at home. The bride wore her wedding dress for an hour or so, so guests could see it and get photos with her, but then she changed into something else later.

Not weird at all

FawnDrench · 12/02/2019 15:11

Yes, definitely wear the dress.

CathyTre · 12/02/2019 15:13

I like the responses saying I can! It’s definitely a wedding dress. Not meringuey - straight, bout long,Ivory coloured silk, lace sort of bodice type thing. If you wore it to someone else’s wedding would definitely be inappropriate!

Reception two weeks after wedding. All invitees replied yes and know it’s a party/reception and the wedding will be done.

I would most definitely wear my wedding dress to a later party celebrating the wedding.
Then again mine comes out for Halloween parties too, so any excuse. Grin

OlennasWimple · 12/02/2019 15:13

Yes! I've been to a few of these types of receptions / parties now (I'm of the age where second marriages are more common than first Wink ) and every single time the B&G have worn their wedding clothes, whether that's a meringue or a simple shift dress or a trouser suit

CathyTre · 12/02/2019 15:13

Fairymoppings, that’s sort of what I was thinking of!

We got married but didn't have our wedding dance until 2 weeks later. I wore my dress both times. Got to get your moneys worth! 😁

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 12/02/2019 15:16

You (can) pay a lot of money for a wedding dress - perfectly acceptable to wear it again - will you be getting all your hair and make up done again?

gamerwidow · 12/02/2019 15:17

Lots of people wear their wedding dress to their delayed reception. You might as well get another day’s wear out of the dress.

Definitely! I would have worn mine and it was huge Grin

Having said that, I'd wear my wedding dress every day if I could!

CathyTre · 12/02/2019 15:18

Did photos post?

HappyDinosaur · 12/02/2019 15:24

Beautiful dress, you should definitely definitely wear it again.

MeredithGrey1 · 12/02/2019 15:27

That's a lovely dress, and I'd definitely wear it again.

CathyTre · 12/02/2019 15:30

Just doing photos again as realised one had camera roll still at bottom! Thanks MNHQ for removing! Hang on...
