To be offended about being called middle aged

A colleague and I were talking about weekend plans. I told them my plans that I was just going to relax at home over the weekend. He responded with that's what life tends to be like when you are middle aged. I only turned 30 in October while I know I'm not young I'm surely not middle aged just yet?

No, 30 is still young. Definitely not middle aged yet!

Butchyrestingface · 09/02/2019 15:38

Does he know your age? Maybe he thinks you look middle aged?

HaventGotAllDay · 09/02/2019 15:38

I think he was probably joking.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 09/02/2019 15:39

I still refuse to admit to being middle-aged and I'm in my 50s.

(I do admit to being delusional though)

Dusktilldawn100 · 09/02/2019 15:39

Yes he definitely knows my age as he came to my birthday meal back in October.

ImNotKitten · 09/02/2019 15:39

Definitely not middle aged at 30!

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 09/02/2019 15:43

Utter crap. Of COURSE 30 isn't middle aged. 40 barely is. I would say 45 is when you hit middle age.

Most people and places and organisations would agree with me. 40-45.

Butchyrestingface · 09/02/2019 15:43

Yes he definitely knows my age as he came to my birthday meal back in October.

How old is he?

PooleySpooley · 09/02/2019 15:44

I am 43 I am not middle aged Grin

PuppyMonkey · 09/02/2019 15:45

I’m 52 and definitely not middle aged either. Grin

Dusktilldawn100 · 09/02/2019 15:45

He's 34

OP posts:
Newdadofgirl · 09/02/2019 15:48

@PooleySpooley I'm 43 too... nowhere near middle age either! LOL

Newdadofgirl · 09/02/2019 15:50

@redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 please can you change the ages to... well... be older... I'm 43... thanks

TheFirstRuleOfFightClub · 09/02/2019 15:50

Haha another 43 year old here, definitely not middle aged! Grin

anniehm · 09/02/2019 15:52

Middle aged starts around 40-45 though many of us in that age bracket don't feel middle aged either! That said our weekend hobbies of hiking and pub lunches with real ale do smack of being middle aged!

ThereIsNoSuchThingAsRoadTax · 09/02/2019 15:54

I would say 45 is when you hit middle age.

No. Absolutely not. Middle aged is about five years older than I am. So that means it starts at 50 at the moment. When I'm 50, it will start at 55...

Aridane · 09/02/2019 15:54

Isn’t all he’s saying is that you’re behaving middle-aged, not making a statement that you are 45

cheeseismyspiritanimal · 09/02/2019 15:56

Surely middle age is the middle part of your life? So average life expectancy is 83 so about 42 is middle aged?

Laiste · 09/02/2019 16:00

So he sees himself as middle aged as well. That's just how he sees 30 somethings. Perhaps he feels a bit middle aged at the mo? Why be offended?

Mamasha3 · 09/02/2019 16:12

When he hits 30 he will regret saying that )
30 is defo not middle aged

Whisky2014 · 09/02/2019 16:15

Sounds like a joke. And yabu to be offended. As if being middle aged is so hideous.
And stop being so sensitive...

Bubastes · 09/02/2019 16:15

I intend to be a bright young thing and then an aged grande dame.

I'm going to neatly skip over the middle aged part.

DramaAlpaca · 09/02/2019 16:17

I'm 54 & I'm most definitely not middle aged yet Wink

3out · 09/02/2019 16:18

If he’s older than you then it’s a joke

Evennow · 09/02/2019 16:21

It’s a state of mind! I have trouble thinking of myself as middle aged and elderly is a long, long way away, if ever! I’m in my mid 60s... Some people are middle-aged before they’re 20.
