AIBU Kitchen disaster

Before I start, long time member but had to make a new account! Softzilla, Mexican house theif, stately homes etc.

I did home made chicken tenders for dinner today. My AIBU is this: I didn't tell my boyfriend that the oven tray was hot and he grabbed it and tried to put it in the oven for me. He watched me take the tray out of the oven, to be fair he didnt know how long i had pre heated the oven for beforehand, and I said 'be careful' before he grabbed the tray. His position is that I should have told him it was hot, mine is that he should have known it was hot given the above points and the fact that I was using a towel to handle the tray. Who IBU? We are both looking forward to seeing what you all think.

He is. He saw you take it out of the oven with a towel. Hardly your fault that he didn’t make the obvious connection.

pictish · 08/02/2019 16:04

Ultimately it’s just one of those things though. An accident.

badlydrawnperson · 08/02/2019 16:05

YABU for "Chicken Tenders" unless in the USA. HTH.

PhilomenaButterfly · 08/02/2019 16:05

He is.

pictish · 08/02/2019 16:05

What are chicken tenders anyway? Are they like goujons?

HoraceCope · 08/02/2019 16:06

he is a fool

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:06

Yes chicken tenders are like goujons. I am British he is from the USA hence tenders.

this really. why does someone have to be at fault?

LovingLola · 08/02/2019 16:07

Are you 12 ???

Bluntness100 · 08/02/2019 16:08

Him for being so daft. And you for saying tenders.

HoraceCope · 08/02/2019 16:09

oh american well then, where there's a blame there's a claim perhaps?
Wink

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:10

@horacecope 😂😂 love that. Sadly we live in Israel so no one is getting sued

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 08/02/2019 16:12

I'm curious though why you're now speaking with an American vemacular. If you were going out with an Aussie would you start calling your flip flop thongs. Are you pretending to be American? Or does he not understand what a goujon is?

Heronymous · 08/02/2019 16:12

It’s an accident - nobody’s fault. Just one of those things.

TheSmallAssassin · 08/02/2019 16:12

It should have been obvious it was hot. I would expect to have to warn a child, but not an adult.

WeeDangerousSpike · 08/02/2019 16:14

He watched you take a hot thing from a hot place, handling it with a cloth like it was hot and is surprised it was... hot??

Does he usually have issues with noticing the bleeding obvious?!

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:14

@bluntness100 that's just what we call them in our house.

OP posts:
easyandy101 · 08/02/2019 16:18

I'd warn somebody in the kitchen with me if something was hot.

I've picked up a cast iron pan fresh out a 220c oven and am prang about it permanently

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/02/2019 16:18

If you didn't actually ask him to put the tray in the oven it's not your fault.

SaturdayNext · 08/02/2019 16:24

Sounds like he should, at the very least, have approached it with caution. I hope he's not badly burnt?

Mmmhmmm · 08/02/2019 16:27

It was just an accident. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:29

@saturdaynext he isn't burnt, he held it for a split second, held it under water then got cross. Thats why I put this on AIBU. If he was hurt I would be devastated.

OP posts:
Toooldtocareanymore · 08/02/2019 16:29

I assume the fact the emphasis is on who was right or wrong ( RATHER THAN THE STUPID COMMENTS ABOUT TENDERS - when everyone knew exactly what you were talking about) means he wasn't badly hurt? you said careful but not 'its hot,' he got burnt, like many people ( often men) would ,he said that's your fault, you should have said it was hot, we say you should have worked that out for yourself there was enough clues, but I think maybe you should win this fight by going round the rest of the day warning him his tea is hot and wet, his knife is sharp, if he falls off his chair he might hurt his bum, im sure you can be of plenty of help to him and really win this war without the assistance of MN'S.

3catsandcounting · 08/02/2019 16:31

M&S do Chicken Tenders (misses point)

BIgBagofJelly · 08/02/2019 16:31

YABU for "Chicken Tenders" unless in the USA. HTH.

Bloody hell do people always have to pick apart every word the OP used - grow the hell up!

Anyway as to the actual OP - it was just an accident but if you have to assign blame it's obviously his fault.
