AIBU Kitchen disaster

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:01

Before I start, long time member but had to make a new account! Softzilla, Mexican house theif, stately homes etc.

I did home made chicken tenders for dinner today. My AIBU is this: I didn't tell my boyfriend that the oven tray was hot and he grabbed it and tried to put it in the oven for me. He watched me take the tray out of the oven, to be fair he didnt know how long i had pre heated the oven for beforehand, and I said 'be careful' before he grabbed the tray. His position is that I should have told him it was hot, mine is that he should have known it was hot given the above points and the fact that I was using a towel to handle the tray. Who IBU? We are both looking forward to seeing what you all think.

So, um, what was the disaster?

MrsJane · 08/02/2019 16:36

Nobody's fault, just an accident!

IncrediblySadToo · 08/02/2019 16:37

He watched you take a hot thing from a hot place, handling it with a cloth like it was hot and is surprised it was... hot??

^ that plus...’be careful’...

If he’s getting cross at YOU, tell him to wind his neck in. He’s the idiot & needs to be cross with himself!

Muppet.

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:38

@blgbagofjelly thanks! I genuinely didn't think that I would have to warn him it was hot! This is an hour after the fact and we are still bickering so that's why I put it to MN. He isn't agreeing with the responses 😂

diddl · 08/02/2019 16:39

" If he was hurt I would be devastated."

Would still have been his fault though.

Anything that has just come out of an oven can be hot!

Goldmandra · 08/02/2019 16:40

You were both aware that it had just come out of the oven. If it were your responsibility to to tell him it was hot, it was also his responsibility to tell you the same.

Either YA both BU for not warning each other or YANBU.

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:41

He says now it's both our faults which I agree with Wine

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:42

He isn't liking the responses, and I'm getting even more shit now 😂. FML. He can cook in future.

OP posts:
Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:43

Oh wait, except he can't cook and doesn't know how.

Boom76 · 08/02/2019 16:44

Don’t you know you’re not allowed to say any American words on here OP

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:44

@dontcallmecharlotte the disaster is: I cooked, my boyfriend got hurt, now I'm in the fucking doghouse for something I shouldn't be.

OP posts:
HoraceCope · 08/02/2019 16:44

obviously

Grin
MitziK · 08/02/2019 16:44

Aww, bless, poor baby.

[shrugs]

Next time you make him a cup of coffee 'Be careful Darling, it's very hot'.
Next time you run a sink of hot water 'Be careful Darling, it's hot'
When he goes to take something out of the oven 'It's hot'
When he runs a bath 'It's hot'
When he goes to pick up a knife 'It's sharp'
When he looks for some skewers for barbeque 'They're pointy'
When he goes to the freezer for ice cream 'It's cold'

See how long he lasts before telling you he doesn't need to be warned about everything.

HoraceCope · 08/02/2019 16:45

oops, I meant obviously he doesnt know his way around an oven.

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:45

@boom76 I know right.

OP posts:
pictish · 08/02/2019 16:45

Tell him to follow a recipe. Viola! Cooking!

diddl · 08/02/2019 16:46

"He says now it's both our faults which I agree with"

Good grief!

YADBVU!

roses2 · 08/02/2019 16:47

He may have “seen” you hold it with a towel but didn’t really “see” it as his mind was elsewhere. Sounds like an accident.

Girlundercover · 08/02/2019 16:47

Oh, I thought this was going to be about a badly fitted kitchen....

pictish · 08/02/2019 16:48

And it’s not both your fault - it’s his.

pictish · 08/02/2019 16:49

Yes it’s an easy oversight...but definitely not of your doing.

BIgBagofJelly · 08/02/2019 16:51

Oh wait, except he can't cook and doesn't know how

Is your boyfriend a ten year old child - can't cook and needs to be told that things that come out of a hot oven are hot?

RoastOx · 08/02/2019 16:51

It astounds me that a couple would be arguing over this and then say..

"RIGHT!! I am going to go on Mumsnet to ask who is in the right!"

Nobody has the answer, it's just one of those things.

CottonSock · 08/02/2019 16:52

My friend once passed me a hot tray she didn't realise had been by overhanging a gas lit hob. I burnt myself badly, but didn't blame my friend. Of course not

Tinkerbelleisatheif · 08/02/2019 16:52

He did not know how long the oven was pre cooking for.
