To think I didn't get what I asked for? Hair

Name changed as every outing.

This maybe is a bit hard to follow so I had added an image for ease.

Please do not tell me it is only hair. It isn't, I've spent a fortune in 3 years getting it where it is and to keep my length.

1 is when I walked into the salon.
2 is the last time I had my hair done there.
3 and 4 show my hair now after visiting this time.
5 shows the golden colour I wanted on my ends and the blonde this time.
6 shows how I wanted a root shadow/blur/blend/ombre/ balayage with the blonde and lighter around the face this time. But I explained in golden blonde.

I showed 5 and 6 to the hairdresser when I went in.

I asked to go warmer because as you can see in 1 and 2 it naturally goes that way and I thought it would be better on my hair. Same of the root shadow I wanted to protect my hair from more stress and colour long term, but still be blonde.

Aibu to think this looks nothing like how I requested?

The hairdresser has said and I quote, " I don't think it went wrong though if I'm honest".

For clarity she told me not to pay "as it isn't what you asked for, you're not happy and you were here 7 hours. Come back if it is too dark and I will lighten it up".
I was khaki green at one stage with white stripes and she wanted to stop processing it then. I asked her to put one more toner on to correct the green. This corrected, but is a red based toner so may wash out.

I contacted her to request this lightening up and her boss (who is understandably angry she spent 7 hours on a free client) and she is in trouble and a meeting tomorrow.

She won't be lightening it up as she's now blocked me across social media after making false claims to me(saying she warned me about my hair when she didn't) and me telling her so. I wished her luck tomorrow and suggested she get him to call me if she needs so I can explain.

For reference, I get a weekly blow-dry there, I have been loyal to them for 3 years and I went there for nearly a year two years before that too until they sacked all the staff and replaced them with new staff after being closed a few months. I get my hair coloured every 6-10 weeks there depending on roots, toners every 3-4 weeks, my cuts there, my four DC cut there and my DH used to go there until recently, I also let them upload my kid's pics for adverts. (DH goes somewhere to get beard trim as well now) and she has ALWAYS done a great job, until now. And I have told her I appreciate hairdressing isn't a completely perfected science, I don't blame her I just really dislike it. (I have a little experience)

Aibu to think I don't have want I wanted?

It's obviously not what you asked for!

It does look a lovely colour to me, tbh-is it close to your natural colour?

Nothing helps if you feel it doesn't suit you though.

Dimsumlosesum · 08/02/2019 09:42

Small claims court her!

Sukochicha · 08/02/2019 09:43

God no you look nothing like the hair colour you wanted!

hastingsmua1 · 08/02/2019 09:48

Wow. She got it so, so wrong.

I feel awful for you as your blonde has gone, so you’ll have to start from scratch to get it light again now that you have a warm and dark base. All of that hard work from previous visits are ruined! It’s harder to lift coloured hair vs virgin hair so absolutely not going to be a simple process to return to lighter hair. She used a warm toned dye when your natural colour and the root tone you wanted seem more flat and ashy too.

Your condition will be ruined if you start bleaching it now. I think you should try and fade the colour as much as you can by regularly washing it and using a clarifying shampoo or head & shoulders to strip it as much as possible. Use conditioning treatments to recover the condition and visit a new salon in a few months.

Sorry to say, but it’s clear that she didn’t value you as a client/your friendship as much as you think. You saw her as a friend, she saw you as a random customer and doesn’t really care that you’re a regular etc. It’s clear that she/her manager see you as a difficult customer so I would definitely be going elsewhere from now on.

If it’s somewhere like Toni and guy you might have luck complaining to head office directly vs the manager

HugoBearsMummy · 08/02/2019 09:56

Wtaf??? You asked for a golden blonde balayage and she's dyed your hair mid brown?! Jesus id be in tears! Poor you OP I hope they can correct it for you.

Cheerbear23 · 08/02/2019 09:57

Oh wow. I can see why you’re upset, it’s completely different. It’s actually a mid brown, itching like a golden blonde. It’s quite a nice colour but not if that’s not what you wanted.
I think being blocked and the owner already thinking you’ve had freebies is going to make it hard for you to get this resolved there.

Cheerbear23 · 08/02/2019 09:58

Nothing - not itching!

DaffodilPower · 08/02/2019 10:01

That is awful*. Well done on speaking up at the time though and not just moaning afterwards.

Correcting it will no doubt cause stress and damage to your hair. If you can bear to, and the toner doesn't wash out and give you the green tinge back (I had this, looked like I'd rolled in moss) then perhaps leave it a few months, then go either back to that salon or to an alternative and get a good balayage.

*It doesn't look awful, it;s a good, healthy looking colour, but awful that it is nothing like you asked.

Do you mind if I pinch your photo No2? That's the colour I'm after!!

HeyNannyNanny · 08/02/2019 10:06

Not really on topic but your hair looks in ace condition, do you put any special treatments on it?

MiniTheMinx · 08/02/2019 10:11

It's nothing like what you asked for. I would not allow them to fix it, I wouldn't trust them.

I'm not a hairdresser. I would have said that the safest way to have achieved what you were looking for would be to do this in several visits over a couple of months. First grow out more so you have more of your natural colour at the root. Then have low lights in several different colours. Slightly darker lowights underneath. Then have choppy layers put in to lose some of the ash on the ends. Keep going until you get to where you want it. I wouldn't try to use any colour over ash blonde, because it often turns khaki.

Itssosunny · 08/02/2019 10:12

I think the hairdresser did this mistake on purpose to show you that this darker colour suits you better than the lighter one? Why else would she do it unless she was a bit looney that day. She did apologise and promised to correct it if needed. Mistakes happen.

Margot3 · 08/02/2019 10:15

Its completely different to what you asked for, I agree. It's now short and brown. Nothing wrong with that but its not what you asked for. At least you didn't have to pay, but I'd be annoyed because my hair only grows an inch per year! Maybe you could try another hairdressers?

SoupDragon · 08/02/2019 10:22

I know it isn't what you wanted etc but I think it looks really nice. Nicer than picture 2.

But, it absolutely isn't what you asked for or what you thought you were getting.

GahWhatever · 08/02/2019 10:23

Your hair on arrival was closer to what you wanted than when you left, and you can't lighten it because it is green underneath the 'mask of brown'.
YANBU.
7 hours? Wow.

VanGoghsDog · 08/02/2019 10:27

I just wanted to do a friend a favour I thought she was owed.

What?

UnleashTheBulsara · 08/02/2019 10:28

I would be upset too, that's a terrible error to make.

Unfortunately, the litmus test of anyone and everywhere is how they respond when things go wrong. It's easy to be all positive and friendly when things are going right with no mistakes, but considerably harder to maintain that when things have gone pear-shaped.

I would be finding another salon if I were you, I couldn't go near them again. Because of their response to their cock up, they could've lost your custom, your DH's custom, your kids' custom, and a hell of a lot of goodwill and recommendations

VanGoghsDog · 08/02/2019 10:29

checking trading services for returns, on how you get a refund or repair.

You can't get a refund when you didn't pay. The Op could get it fixed elsewhere and sue the hairdresser for the cost of that. It's a really hard one though, no-one else knows what was said between the two of them in the salon.

Fiddie · 08/02/2019 10:34

That's dreadful. It's mousey brown.

You aren't BU at all.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 08/02/2019 10:37

I think it is particularly upsetting/galling to have been blocked by someone to whom you seem to have shown great professional and personal loyalty. The problem isn’t just that you don’t have the colour you asked for, it is also that you have been badly treated.
It sounds as though this salon may be a branch of a larger group? If so, I think you could reasonably ask them to take responsibility for correcting your hair at another salon. It might take a number of visits over a few months and if it’s possible for them to bear that cost, rather than you, then they should. It would clearly be uncomfortable to return to the same salon and you have probably, justifiably, lost trust in them anyway. They should consider how often you and your family visit the salon. You are an extremely good customer.

Luaa · 08/02/2019 10:38

I think it does look lovely, but that doesn't matter, because it's not at all what you asked for. And you've said it doesn't suit your skin tone. I don't understand how you could end up with that when asking for 5 and 6!

CatnissEverdene · 08/02/2019 10:42

My DD had a very similar experience OP. She went back and asked for more blonde, only to end up with basically ginger over processed and straw like hair.... this was a high end salon with a very good reputation. It's taken nearly 18 months for her hair to get back to it's "normal" condition.

I think the colour you've got looks beautiful, and I'd firstly go to a make up counter to look at changing your make up before going for more colour processing. Being realistic, you're just going to ruin the condition putting more colour on.

I totally agree it's nothing like what you asked for, and their reaction has been appalling. You must feel gutted having spent so much money.

floribunda18 · 08/02/2019 10:48

Your hair looks nice, but it clear isn't what you wanted. Have them correct it for free then go somewhere else in future.

Halloumimuffin · 08/02/2019 10:48

Did the green colour arise from lightening the hair or from a dye?

If it was a dye, I'd be tempted to colour strip the whole thing and hope you can start over (with intensive conditioning - I've done this several times with the box you can buy at the supermarket and never seen much long-term damage).

If it's from lightening I wouldn't touch it, who knows what colour you might end up with.

I adore Buffy hair and your number 2 picture is so Buffyesque that I am extremely sad for you.

floribunda18 · 08/02/2019 10:48

clearly not clear.

CatG85 · 08/02/2019 11:03

YANBU or hard work. You wouldn't go in to a nail shop and ask for red polish and be happy when they painted them blue so why should you be happy with this?!
