To think I didn't get what I asked for? Hair

Name changed as every outing.

This maybe is a bit hard to follow so I had added an image for ease.

Please do not tell me it is only hair. It isn't, I've spent a fortune in 3 years getting it where it is and to keep my length.

1 is when I walked into the salon.
2 is the last time I had my hair done there.
3 and 4 show my hair now after visiting this time.
5 shows the golden colour I wanted on my ends and the blonde this time.
6 shows how I wanted a root shadow/blur/blend/ombre/ balayage with the blonde and lighter around the face this time. But I explained in golden blonde.

I showed 5 and 6 to the hairdresser when I went in.

I asked to go warmer because as you can see in 1 and 2 it naturally goes that way and I thought it would be better on my hair. Same of the root shadow I wanted to protect my hair from more stress and colour long term, but still be blonde.

Aibu to think this looks nothing like how I requested?

The hairdresser has said and I quote, " I don't think it went wrong though if I'm honest".

For clarity she told me not to pay "as it isn't what you asked for, you're not happy and you were here 7 hours. Come back if it is too dark and I will lighten it up".
I was khaki green at one stage with white stripes and she wanted to stop processing it then. I asked her to put one more toner on to correct the green. This corrected, but is a red based toner so may wash out.

I contacted her to request this lightening up and her boss (who is understandably angry she spent 7 hours on a free client) and she is in trouble and a meeting tomorrow.

She won't be lightening it up as she's now blocked me across social media after making false claims to me(saying she warned me about my hair when she didn't) and me telling her so. I wished her luck tomorrow and suggested she get him to call me if she needs so I can explain.

For reference, I get a weekly blow-dry there, I have been loyal to them for 3 years and I went there for nearly a year two years before that too until they sacked all the staff and replaced them with new staff after being closed a few months. I get my hair coloured every 6-10 weeks there depending on roots, toners every 3-4 weeks, my cuts there, my four DC cut there and my DH used to go there until recently, I also let them upload my kid's pics for adverts. (DH goes somewhere to get beard trim as well now) and she has ALWAYS done a great job, until now. And I have told her I appreciate hairdressing isn't a completely perfected science, I don't blame her I just really dislike it. (I have a little experience)

Aibu to think I don't have want I wanted?

AIBU to think this looks nothing like how I requested?

No, because it looks nothing like you requested.

Aibu to think I don't have want I wanted?

No, because anyone with eyes can see it’s not even remotely what you wanted.

Meagain19 · 08/02/2019 03:10

@SmotheroffiveI have cried, a lot tbh but I didn't want to mention that in case I was BU.

The hairdresser is adamant it is what I asked for and the same shades. I don't know how after all that was said in the salon, but she is now where it is in black and white and can be evidenced.

I have screenshots of conversation where she is blaming me for it saying it is my fault because I asked her to put the last red violet toner on and she is claiming that is why it is so dark! It was already dark!

After all those years seeing her weekly also, honestly, I counted her as a friend, so that on top of this has really upset me. Was I just a cash cow?

Her prices went up 15% - 20% recently, she told me how clients have complained to head office about it. I said I wasn't happy with the blow-dry going up so drastically but I agreed with her colours going up because she is so good ( Wine ). Ha. She told me she was annoyed because the owner hadn't given her a pay rise ever even though she is a manager now, nor fixed the basins. So I sent a comment to the head office. I sent one email hoping she would get a pay rise with my thickly laid compliments on how she is amazing (which she is every other time). I didn't get a response but said owner went in the salon and slagged me off to her about fixing the basins and she got a pay rise, which I believed to be well deserved so I didn't care what he said of me.

I was a model for them in early summer. The brand named colour technician trainer wrecked it, it was fried and snapping off!!!
This hairdresser in question complained on my behalf and got me a free trim and a shampoo and conditioning treatment to help it. She was very apologetic, helpful etc obvious the main boss of the chain was told. He now knows it is me who got the freebies and he is fuming I have had more free treatments because of a complaint!! But I didn't even complain at the model mess up, the manager did who said it was awful way before I said a word. As model, I got that service free, but I was asked to do it as I am one of the top paying clients.

The trim and free products didn't help, I ended up buying olaplex out of my own money (step 1 2 and 3 at over £300) but I still didn't make a complaint myself.

Now I have been blacklisted when I have made an actual complaint about the service I have received. But I have only made one complaint and one comment on how amazing she was and the basins.

I always pay by card, so I have proof of how much I have spent to get it blonde! I dread to think!!

Maybe I am hard work? I just wanted to do a friend a favour I thought she was owed. Still doesn't change my hair being brown all over when I wanted blonde balayage.

Firstly now you know who your true friends are! I would be devastated if I was you. That is going to take an age to get back blonde.

Meagain19 · 08/02/2019 03:17

@Smotheroffive I had to have 1.5 inches off. In total it was colour processed three times. Colour dried toner dried toner and so it was not its good shape. She has blamed my condition on it, but only after she has coloured it. Prior to her colouring it there was no mention of my hair quality. She also does fortnightly strand tests on my hair at my request so I know I am not overdoing it. It always bounced back.

Smotheroffive · 08/02/2019 03:27

An unmitigated disaster for you :(

I guess its some small consolation of how amazing it looks from the reaction on here? The only other thing I would suggest is tackling the hair /face tone clash with a different makeup colour regime to SRT it off better until it starts to calm and you get to a point that it can be done properly? Do you use a green tone base; trying different lipstick colours to effect a cooling down ?

Meagain19 · 08/02/2019 03:34

Yeah, I have all that but day to day I don't like to wear a heavy base unless I am seeing friends as I am only in my t zone.

I only wear nude lipsticks and I avoid blush, I use a full coverage foundation too.

I have done the vitamin c lightening on the strand test 3 times and it is khaki underneath still!! I can't believe it, it's going to be a full-colour correction job.

Sad Wine

Thank you SMOTHER I realllllly appreciate you right now!

Smotheroffive · 08/02/2019 03:53

Well I think to console myself I would be experimenting with the makeup. I do totally get how you feel. It doesn't make much sense tbh that she's been so amazing and now so negligent. I would worry that you might have been seen as a cash cow, vile expression but an reflection of her not you.

...for you Chocolate Wine

Guineapiglet345 · 08/02/2019 07:55

I think you need to find a new hairdresser and not get so involved in their pay rises etc.

OneStepSideways · 08/02/2019 08:42

I agree she really messed it up. You asked for a golden blonde balayage and she dyed it mousy brown with reddish bits!
I'd expect them to fix it free of charge or refund the full amount.

I’d get in touch later today to see if they plan to correct it.

If not, I’d review them on every online review site i could find.

Bigonesmallone3 · 08/02/2019 08:54

So u wanted to leave being a blonde and walked out a brunette?

I wouldn't be happy with that..
I'm glad they didn't make u pay

FiveRedBricks · 08/02/2019 08:55

"Or the only other thing I can think of is a defective colour, old colour or incorrectly stored colour."

Or your hair didn't take to it properly and is already overprocessed Hmm

You do sound like very hard work and high maintenance tbh. Weekly blowdry? Are you 76? Confused

FiveRedBricks · 08/02/2019 08:58

Oh and the only thing that normally cancels greens is reds so she had no choice than to add red tones.

howdoyoukeepawaveuponthesand · 08/02/2019 09:00

Hairdresser here of many years.

She fucked up. You wanted to go from plat/ashy blonde to golden blonde with root melt and she made you brunette.

I’m embarrassed for her.

ichifanny · 08/02/2019 09:13

I’m a long term platinum pearly blonde here and I love in fear of someone doing that to my hair , all she needed to do was add lowlight to your root area and use a more golden toner to your ends surely ? It does seem like as your brown fades you will be left with green . If it goes green , pastel pink toners you can buy in shops will tone the green out but a bit of a wacky look not for everyone but to be honest I’d go see someone else , sounds like the relationship had broken down .

Serialweightwatcher · 08/02/2019 09:20

Crikey - I thought you were no.6 ... 3 and 4 are brunette and I can hardly see any sign of the ombre look - I'd be fuming

EmeraldShamrock · 08/02/2019 09:23

Go back and get them fix it.
I think Buffy has a full head of highlights, I am that colour with a full head. I would definitely return, use the information from professional pps, so your armed with knowledge. It i s so expensive.
She may be grumpy but at least you'll have it fixed.

crimsonlake · 08/02/2019 09:23

I agree brown fades quite quickly on over processed hair, however that is not really the solution as you did not get what you wanted. They should put it right.

rosesandcashmere · 08/02/2019 09:29

I have hair a similar colour to your second photo. When I've gone brown before it's taken all day and been a colour correction. Is this actually what she's done? They made the whole thing orange to prevent khaki then brown. Surely she forgot what she was doing, it's hard to do by accident?!

TheJobNeverEnded · 08/02/2019 09:29

You do sound like very hard work and high maintenance tbh. Weekly blowdry? Are you 76?

Clearly someone who doesn't have an amazing hairdresser Grin

If I were rich enough I would have someone blow dry my hair 3 times a week, like celebrities do. My hairdresser can blow dry my hair perfectly straight without straighteners, she openly admits it is a very difficult task to do on your own hair.

It isn't what you asked for, they know that. But your hair needs a break to recover. I would get a second opinion from another salon.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 08/02/2019 09:31

It’s clearly a massive cock up, nothing to do wih your hair being overprocessed and not taking to the colour properly Hmm

Are they going to fix it or not?

Christmastree43 · 08/02/2019 09:36

Oh OP you have all my sympathy, I wanted to go a darker blonde this summer and my long standing lovely hairdresser died it practically black with white blonde highlights!!! Aghhh! I hated it so much and had to put up with it over a summer holiday, plus then pay around £600 in total to my new hairdresser to get back to blonde then to this darker blonde.

Totally understand how betrayed/ confused/ gaslit you feel - you have/ need a trust relationship with a hairdresser and she has messed this up big time!

In my case I found somewhere new as feel the relationship was ruined. I’ve been very happy with my new place but still cautious and it’s so expensive there Blush

Best wishes OP and don’t do anything too hasty I would advise

EmeraldShamrock · 08/02/2019 09:36

5/6 is really dark, the only upside is it will fade fast, probably be a great colour.
I used to go 5/6 on my lowlight but now I get a warm 7. Your hair will fade to a 7.
If it was me there would be no way I would allow her put me off, checking trading services for returns, on how you get a refund or repair.
