I have a neighbour who’s 2 DC go to the same school as my DS. As I drive and she doesn’t I take her to take the kids to school morning and afternoon. She’s not English but she speaks good English. I’ve decided to have a new car and I’ll be going from a 5 seater to a 4 seater which isn’t a problem as I can take the kids and pick them up on my own. My DH brought my new car home to show me it’s only a couple of years old and it’s a car I’ve wanted for ages (Fiat 500). Anyway we pull up outside my house and DH is outside in my new car and as we pull up I say “oh no way here’s my new car” and she looks at it and says “it’s shit”!!!! She definitely said that as she said it twice. I was absolutely gobsmacked and I told her how rude she is. I really feel now like telling her that if it’s that shit she won’t want her DC travelling in it then. It’s quite a walk from our houses to the school and she never offers petrol money or anything. AIBU to tell her in future she can walk to school??

@ciderhouserules

How can you compare a neighbour offering lifts to the school that both your children attend , to bus, trains and taxi drivers? Confused
Obviously I pay if I was to use public transport or taxis.
I drive though and if I offered someone a lift to where I was going then I wouldn't expect any money from them.
How that makes me a cf I don't know!

She definitely said “it’s shit”. When I told her how rude I thought she was she just walked off laughing to her house. When I said “no way there’s my new car” I said it in surprise as I didn’t expect DH to be in it. It seems the Fiat 500’s have mixed reviews lol! I’ve got to say I love it and it’s only really used for school run/nipping to the shops. DH has a big estate so we’ve got the space if we need it. Btw the neighbor is Lithuanian. I’ve really calmed down now about it so I can kind of see a funny side to it. It’s just the fact of how blunt she was (but that’s not really unusual in her case)! 😂

Why don't you walk to school? It's not far and would solve the problem too.

Also..the paying for petrol thing...

Has she never given you wine? Chocolates? Flowers? Theatre tickets? A llama? A timeshare week in Tenerife? SOME sort of present to say thank you for FOUR years of taking her children?

That is just WRONG

Alfiesmom74 · 09/02/2019 22:07

She actually does send things over for me when she gets stuff sent from her family like chocolates and biscuits. She’s ok in small doses like the short car ride to school 😂. It’s just how blunt and in my opinion downright rude she is. Luckily I won’t have to see much of her now I’m in the “shit” car 😂

BrilliantDarling - but a train/bus/taxi might be 'going that way'! Hmm What's the difference between a bus or taxi going to the school/road the school is on, and you driving your children?

The difference is that the person being driven pays! Even if you are going that way, the person being driven in your car should offer to pay. Otherwise, that person is a cheeky fucker, because he/she would think 'but you're going that way anyway, so I won't bother'!?

OP, Personally, if someone called my car 'shit', I'd think twice about doing them a favour. Let them get their own car.
