Just that.

OP posts:
TedAndLola · 08/02/2019 07:49

Not if you like your child.

Pk37 · 08/02/2019 07:52

Old lady names for babies are really not my thing

GahWhatever · 08/02/2019 07:56

Gorgeous. Its the name of the baby in Nanny McPhee too isn't it? The one who grows up into Maggie Smith for the second film?

anniehm · 08/02/2019 08:03

Yes, was our first choice in fact but mum hated it and we did change.

Urgh2019 · 08/02/2019 10:15

I have one. She isn’t an Aggie. She’s cool and she likes having a name no one else has and it suits her.

The only time I have had comments about her name (apart from MIL!) were people whose own kids had horrible names - Jorja (not a name) Something-Mae etc.

Also better than all the literally millions of Olivia’s and Emily’s everywhere.

We are all happy with our choice.

Member984815 · 08/02/2019 10:34

I love it

Blobby10 · 08/02/2019 10:57

Another positive vote here!! And for those saying "It will be shortened etc etc " it doesn't have to be. My 3 adult children all have names which could be shortened and none of them have been! If the parents and child use their 'proper' name then (in my experience) most people will follow their lead.

EstrellaDamn · 08/02/2019 11:06

Hideous IMO.

I can't imagine seeing my perfect tiny beautiful squishy newborn and thinking 'yep, she's definitely an Agatha' Confused

Blippityblip · 08/02/2019 11:06

I have one! Used to live in an area where no one blinked an eye but just said ‘yah, great well we must have her round for a play with Ophelia and Achilles soon’ Grin

Now live in a place where lily-mae, kaycee etc plus eleventy billion Olivias/Emily’s abound, you can see people view it as child abuse. Horses for courses.

Anyway, in general we are very international and have Sicilian/Swedish heritage amongst others so I expect she’ll be fine.

Blippityblip · 08/02/2019 11:07

Agatha is really popular in lots of European countries, but esp scandinavia plus is a Sicilian saint in case that last paragraph seemed a bit random.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/02/2019 11:12

Maybe it’s because I know one who is 3 and a fun-packed bundle of joy that I’m finding some of the answers on this thread really horrid. She’s adorable, and her name “suits” her if that makes sense.

Putting her aside it makes me think of fabulous minxes from a 40s Film Noir clad in furs and rubies.

For me it fits into the same very “grown up” name category as Lydia, Livia and Cassandra.

Blippityblip · 08/02/2019 11:16

Aw you are nice paul I know aren’t people vile!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 08/02/2019 11:20

People arent vile because they dont like a name...is the point of these forums just to gush over every name. Its an opinion and has no bearing on the person with the name really.

RoboticSealpup · 08/02/2019 11:20

How about Agnetha?

As long as you're not planning to live in Sweden... It's basically the Swedish equivalent of Maureen or Tracey in terms of middle aged frumpiness.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 08/02/2019 11:24

She'll be that kid in school

In this day and age? She really won't!

I've surprised myself by liking it. Although I would be concerned by shortenings - in my circle, no one would bother with more than than "Ags" (ugh!).

EnoughSnowAlready · 08/02/2019 11:28

It's an incredibly ugly and harsh sounding name. I can't imagine wanting to call a lovely newborn 'Agatha'.

Changingagain · 08/02/2019 11:28

I really like it. I'm expecting a girl and it would be on the possibles list but I don't like Aggie.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/02/2019 11:29

@onlyfoolsnmothers

EstrellaDamn · 08/02/2019 11:29

How is it vile to give an opinion, for which you have been asked? Don't be silly.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/02/2019 11:31

Alright Officers, I’ll step away now.

Carry on cunting.

Bubastes · 08/02/2019 11:32

'Carry on cunting'

Irony.

Flamingosnbears · 08/02/2019 11:35

Trunchbull comes to mind first...

amusedbush · 08/02/2019 11:37

It's an incredibly ugly and harsh sounding name

This. Not to put too fine a point on it but it may be one of the ugliest names ever. Agnes isn't much better.

EnoughSnowAlready · 08/02/2019 11:39

If you ask for opinions then you're going to get them. If you can't handle that then don't ask. There's little point in a thread full of posters repeating that 'It isn't to my taste' it doesn't tell you why someone doesn't like the name or what they don't like about it. Also it's the name people are criticising, it has no reflection on the people named Agatha. I'm sure a lot of people don't like my name, but I don't start clutching my pearls in horror when they say so on MN.

Thurmanmurman · 08/02/2019 11:41

I hate it sorry. Some old fashioned names are nice but this is in the same category as Ethel or Maud IMO. If you love it though that’s what matters, I’m sure not everyone likes my DDs name but I don’t give a monkeys.
